Sorry to hear that MLH. I know it's completely impossible, but you almost need to treat it like an opportunity. Unless this was your dream job, obviously, then there is the chance for you to go out and find something better that you may never have discovered.

Like I said, there's no way to treat it like that at present time, but just in the back of your mind know that a lot of life's best and most surprising opportunities would never have presented themselves without life's greatest disappointments precluding them. I know that sounds like total bullshit, but it isn't. Time heals and shapes.

I'm doing a whole lot of nothing and enjoying it. Woke up at 3:30am and worked all day the last few so more than content to take it easy.

Speaking of which, New Year's - I'm a grown man. I can go out and get hammered any day I please. The novelty of this tradition, as fun as it can be, is lost on me.

I taught PE at the elementary level and had an absolute blast doing it. Budget cuts removed my position, though. It's very tough sledding in this location and in this field, but I know if I just stay patient, I'll eventually come across something else.

Good point you raise about New Year's as a whole. The usual group of people I hang with are going out to our usual bar tonight. I see them all the time. Just another day, I guess, minus any good sports on TV, which is usually why I go there.

Don't be afraid to try something different either, if it interests you. Just as you realized teaching in a classroom was not for you, you may realize that something you had never considered before IS for you.
