I don't know if this is true or not because I haven't seen him play this season but he shouldn't be a good defender at this stage in his career. In fact he should be a horrible defender. A diminutive guard nearing the age of 40 should not in any way be a adequate defender. It's as suspicious as a 39 year old suddenly hitting 45 home runs in baseball.

he gets to cover westbrook in practice. after getting burned by him for a few hrs a day, his face will light up when he has to cover anyone other than him. thats all i can think of :oldlol: its one of the reasons miamis role players are really good, they cover lebron and wade and bosh in practice. it'll make them better.

Because his offense is so horrible he has nothing else to offer but defense. And obviously he's improved it. That's his real value at this point.

I literally and sincerely ask this same question every single time I see him play now.

Guy was a defensive liability for much of his career, now he's a capable and at least average on the ball defender for his position on most nights.

Maybe it has to do with him bulking up? It's mind boggling and widely impressively that as he reaches his retirement, he's improved as a defender, when it's usually the opposite that's true - particularly for guards.

That and he's not playing against the starting pg most nights... he's playing against guys coming off the bench and that's a big advantage for a wily old vet

Glad someone is noticing. He's been a boss on that end. It's great to have too, since these young pups like Lamb and Reggie are forced to watch his 50 year old azz stilll put in the work on D, it means they HAVE to do the same or they'll look like lazy asses.

He's not really much help anywhere else though.

He's slow, but he has the body to still be a decent defender.
Loves taking charges as well

He's going to have horrible back issues in a few years. Taking charges at that high rate typically results in such - see Steve Nash.
