Who will go down as the better player and who will be higher on the GOAT list?

What a stupid topic. KD might still play another 15years who knows what will happen in 15years. We can't even predict what will happen this season let alone the next 15 seasons. At his young age however he has already been to the finals once same as Miller throughout his career.

People underrate KD so much. No doubt in my mind when its all said and done in 20 yrs KD will have shattered the all time scoring record

I doubt that very much. Lebron has scored more points and reached all the scoring milestones before Durant (according to age) and is far more durable then Durant meaning it is likely Lebron will play at a higher level longer and play more games as well.

I know you hate him and all, and I'm not the biggest fan, but he'd be ranked higher if he retired right now. As far as peaks go, its not close.

Reggie Miller wasn't top 3 at his position at any point of his career, let alone in the league.

Current Durant should already be higher than Reggie Miller in all time ranking. Reggie Miller is a legend but he was never a top 15 player in the league even in his absolute peak.

They are not in the same league, Reggie was not a franchise changer, though he was a phenomenal shooter...

Durant is a much better player than Miller. Miller would be a top 2-3 SG in today's NBA. I'd take him over Harden.

Durant would be significantly worse in the physical defense era that miller played in.

LOL... Miller ain't better than Harden either.

Miller wasn't better than guys like Sprewell during his time, so he sure as hell isn't better than Harden.

Late 90s east perhaps. Kevin Durant could score 35-40ppg in the late 80s or early 90s west. Literally. Put him on a team that wasnt very deep and defend Kevin Durant the way they defended the top stars at the time he would score like Michael Jordan and do it without the FTs he needs to do it now.

Nobody at that time was prepared to handle someone his size, with that much mobility, and his jumper off the dribble. He would give Run TMC, the Nuggets, or Suns 78 points one day if you put him on a team that would really lean on him.

But there were less teams then who needed to lean on one guy so much....so he probably just does like 32-33 a game. He wouldnt be nearly as good as Jordan. But he could score like him in the old west.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KstKYSTQjdI

You cant put Kevin Durant out there....

They didnt even close out on threes.

90s Knicks, Heat, Bulls, and so on....different story. Leave him out west like he is now and put him in the Pacific like he would be on the Sonics....

Hes doing Gervin numbers or better. Im talking 33ppg on 54% shooting.

Mike put up 40/5/5 vs the Pacific division one year before he was even a great shooter.

Come to think of it... You could make the case that Current Paul George > any version of Miller.

Kblaze8855
01-01-2014, 02:52 PM
You wouldnt have to make a case. Its fairly obvious. Pretty much anyone to ever score 22 a game and be deserving of all D is probably better than Reggie Miller.

Paul is doing 24/6/4 shooting 47%, 40% from 3, 86% from the line, playing elite defense, and leading a team on pace for 68 wins.

Reggie has never had a season on this level. There was like a 5 season stretch of his prime he wasnt even an all star and nobody was up in arms over it being a "snub" or anything.

Reggie was an accptable defender. You could put George on Lebron, Melo, Durant, or Chris Paul and not have to worry about him much. Making a case for Reggie over George is just pretending defense doesnt exist.

According to his own coach Larry Brown....and Phil Jackson....Derek Mckey was. And some said Smits...and many thought Detlef when he was doing like 19/10/6. That said...Reggie was the best most of the time.

Far as this:

Magic might be the greatest offensive player of all time. Not...Rip Hamilton with 2 steps more range.

And Magic was 6'9''....he wasnt supposed to be guarding points in the first place. On the swingmen and smaller forwards he guarded he wasnt noteworthy but wasnt anything to laugh at. Usual defender...not worth pointing out for good or bad reasons.

KD is a better player than Reggie was, but its still sad to see how underrated Reggies aptitude is around here, Reggie is one of the best examples ever of "Watch him before you watch the stats" to understand why/how he was that impactful, he averaged 18 ppg.... but most of it would come in the 4th quarter, deliberately.... i am not surprised if Reggie has hit more gamewinning/gametying shots in NBA history....

The guy was a trolling clutch/4th quarter assassin, a mental warfare master...... he is one of those guys who would hypothetically have Durant score 40 on him, let him look like he is winning, let him have his fun and then take his heart out in the 4th quarter.... erupt for 15+ points in the 4th / hit a gamewinner, end up with only 18 points... and then walk away staring at Durant preferably with a choke sign and speech like: "Nice 40 point game tho......" and have Durant be sleepless being pissed of that night..... Reggie was one of THOSE guys....

So you tell me who is better there, yes KD had a better game and is a better player..... but you know.... you just cant measure Reggies aptitude in stats....

Jermaine O'Neal too, but Miller was well past his prime by 02-05.

During that time Reggie said he didnt want to impede those talents process, he could have easily erupt for as many ppg as he ever could and was their go-to-guy in the 4th quarter.

We can't down grade Durant too much because of his Finals loss (while he had Harden and Westbrook, too) because he lost to the King. If he had lost to a weaker competitor, he could get knocked down a bit, but he lost to a superior.

Statswise Durant is obviously the better player but does anyone of you honestly believe that replacing Miller for Durant in their primes on those Pacers teams changes the results of the big playoff games he was in?

He had too many close series with very good to all time great playoff teams some of those they won, does replacing Miller for Durant get them over the hump against Ewings knicks, Jordans bulls and Shaqs magic/lakers?

Oh come on, OKC lost that series, not Durant by himself. He still averaged 30 PPG on 50% despite the refs trying to take him out of that series. He was only 23 too.... That was like what, his 3rd time in the playoffs? And he played damn well too...

KD's better productions all in all will probably result in more games won, but i still see no championship for him either.... that Jordan guy was not fair and so wasnt that Bulls team  and then when he/Bulls dismantled it didnt get any more fair with Shaq+Kobe

Reggie has become pretty overrated. I think the fact that he had those moments against the Knicks in MSG, media capital and all, is part of it. I did love watching him sh*t all over the Knicks.

He was a good player for a long period of time. Not a real elite top guy. Great shooter, decent driver, mediocre ball-handler and rebounder, okay defender. He was terrific at running around screens, which could tire opposing players out.

I'd want him taking big shots at the end of a playoff game though.

Myth
01-03-2014, 02:01 AM
What type of question is this? Reggie is my favorite player of all time, but he was not on Durant's level. Give Durant Reggie's attitude though and Durant would truly be competing for GOAT status.

01-03-2014, 04:16 AM
KD and it's not even close! KD totally redefined the SF position! And other than a Bird, Bron, or Dr.J, I can't name another SF FOR SURE I would take over KD peak value wise. That's how damn good KD is. As great as Miller was, he's not close to that kind of level at the SG spot peak value wise. Maybe 13-15 at best peak value wise amongst SG's. But no doubt GOAT wise, Miller is a top 10 SG who had a great career.

bizil
01-03-2014, 04:19 AM
KD is the level of player u compare to Bird, Bron, Hondo, and Doc at SF ALREADY! We are talking guys who are top 15 GOAT kind of guys. Guys who totally reshape and redefine the sport on top of it. And to think when he reaches his peak, he will have elements of Gervin, T-Mac, and possibly some Bird mixed in with it. Scary, scary stuff!

A better thread would have been a matchup between Durants finals team and either the 95 or 98 Pacers. The 6'10" Mckey trying to guard the 6'11" Durant would have been awesome to watch.

I am confident Reggie was never a top 5 player in the league at any stage of his career. Top 10? Maybe a couple of years, and that is a maybe...

Durant has been no worse than a top 3 player in the league for the majority of his career so far. And it is hard to imagine him not being atleast top 5 for the next 5 years...

We are comparing an all-star (Reggie) to a Superstar (KD).
