View Full Version : Lakers tanking and I'm excited
For some reason the thrill of tanking this year to me is equal to making a serious title run with the Kobe, Gasol, and LO group from 2008-2010. Does anybody else feel the same way?

Although the hamstring tear is in the same leg, this tear is in a different location than the tear that Farmar suffered on December 1.

I thought hamstring tears kept you out longer than that... I only pulled mine and I couldn't sprint on it fully for about 2 months

Yes, it's wrong:facepalm
To be honest, I watch Laker games while half-heartedly wishing opposing teams to beat them. Rather have them go lottery than be stuck in the no-man's land like the Raptors are right now

If the Lakers were smart they would tank and get a top notch prospect in the draft to plug along side Kobe and sign FA's with the large amount of cap they'll have this offseason. They aren't doing squat in the postseason if they even make it and might as well get a player to build your team around in the future in the draft.

huh? They haven't been tanking quite yet. If Pau is traded for little return in terms of immediate talent, then the tank is on for sure. Problem is, they have a better record than teams 9-15 in the East :oldlol:
We shall see. Can't imagine Kobe being pleased with a full on tank.

Not to mention they have a 7-day road trip this january (last one being a Knicks match), followed by a Pacer match @ home

They lost 6 straight including losses to the jazz, sixers, and bucks. If Gasol is dealt in a salary dump and Kobe sits out for the rest of the year then the Lakers are strong contenders for a top 5 pick. Right now Lakers have the ninth pick. East playoff teams(even with a worse record) have a lower pick.

Yeah, but then there are still teams 9-15 in the East.
Also, unlikely that Kobe sits out.

yes, there is some sort of excitement in tanking, as this is quite new for us, 2014 draft looks nice too, a shot at jabari would be awesome

How about Kobe mentoring Wiggins? Wiggins has the elite athleticism. Kobe could teach him elite skills, work ethic, and intangibles. Kobe could train Wiggins to be the GOAT.
i'd love wiggins but tbh bucks are pretty set up for #1 pick, when kobe returns we'll have to see

Parker would be nice, but I'd settle for James Young or Rodney Hood, and we'll more than likely be drafting in the 7-14 range anyway, unless we get lucky.

They do. You can't deal 3 first rounds in a row. Lakers gave 2013 and 2015 to the Suns and kept 2014.

It's finally hitting me...the Lakers might get a decent draft pick if they continue to suck?

For me, watching the Cavs rebuild over the last couple years has been as entertaining as competing for conference titles with James. Despite all the losing, watching young guys develop their games while looking to the future and what "might be" should be very interesting for any true basketball fan.
This is the process that most franchises eventually have to go through. Lakers fans are not accustomed to it, but it's all part of my love for the game.
If you're a true Lakers fan and basketball fan, it will be exciting.

I don't really find excitement in losing or watching guys lose a year off of their career simply to tank. Now don't confuse that, it is smart to potentially tank and get a high draft pick. I'm just not a fan of it because I feel that more than anything else waters down the league.
Teams that purposely just want to lose to get a high draft pick makes for a less exciting league and games that lack spirit. One thing I liked about the Lakers team this season was that it felt they were fighting hard to win despite the setbacks. Now it feels like they've given up that Bucks game was meh to watch.

Morale is low when your entire team including your star is injured (again and again).

I agree. Lakers need to build a team organically. No more trades for vets. It is much more satisfying to draft a young talent and watch them grow.

I agree on some level but that doesn't play well in LA... Most the fan base is way too impatient to live through that...
Just look at the critic of this season so far... in November you knew before they started this season was a wash but the overly optimistic fan base is now up in arms demanding they tank when in reality the team was built to tank from the start.
You don't put a roster together out of leftovers and guys nobody else wants while knowing your ace is out for an extended time and expect a good season. But now that the season is playing out the way you'd expect it to and even worse because of the injuries the fan base is hoping the team tanks...lol
It always was, they don't need to tell the world they're tanking, they did that when you saw who they were bringing onboard

LOL calm down with the "get ready to lose" lecture son, we rebuild for 2 years max, we aren't a shit franchise like the Cavs who been in "rebuild mode" since the franchise started. Remember last time, we got a lotteryt pick, a low 10th pick and chose Bynum who went on to become the best center in the west, give us #1 and it's game over NBA, hello nother decade of dominance.

Wee need to have a year below the salary cap so we can avoid huge repeater fees. Then gear up for a championship push once Westbrook and Love arrive. I genuinely believe those 2 plus Kobe would be best in the west

1. Let kobe play 15-18 mins for the rest of his career as a 6th man. Otherwise he will considerably slow down the development of any great rookie. E.g. instead of playing in a team orientated offense and letting the Rookie feel like he is the future star player and learning how to handle situations and double team, Kobe gets all jealous again and wants the spotlight for himself and we all know Kobe likes to crush the confidence of not only the opponents but even his own team mates. If Kobe runs another superstar (Shaq, Dwight, ?Parker) out of LA before he retires..
2. Be prepared for anything. Boston has the most championships in the NBA and how many have they won in the last 20years? Exactly, luck comes and goes and even the giants fall eventually.
Kobe fans-> simple followers can always live vicariously through the lives of others whether through politics, sports, gaming whatever other hobbies which dominate your lives.

I know I probably shouldn't bother responding to BruinLove, but what the hell makes you think I give two sh!ts whether or not the Lakers have a decade-long rebuild or are back to winning championships next year?
Trust me, I don't care. Have fun pounding your chest, though. I'm sure you'll contribute quite a bit, whatever happens.

Jabbari gets drafted by LA #1 overall.
Lakers reach NBA Finals.
Kobe gets injured and has to sit out game 6.
Jabbari dominates by playing all positions, scoring over 40 points, grabbing over 15 rebounds and dishing out nearly double-digit assists.
Lakers win the NBA title.
Kobe is to Jabbari what Kareem was to Magic.

I am hoping that the Lakers get a pick high enough to get Embiid.
It would keep on the franchise' tradition of having great Centers. There are so many talented point guards in the league now that drafting one shouldn't be a high priority.
I am also not holding onto the false hope of getting Wiggins or Parker.

I would've thought the Lakers organization was above tanking.
More honorable thing to do is actually rebuild, get rid of any players that might cause you to finish better than you want to.

It looks like a tank, but this crap started over a year ago. That would have to be some elaborate, incredibly executed plan on the scale of Oceans 11 or The Italian Job. I don't think they could have foreseen the events that have unfolded to put them in this current position.
I see it as one bumbling move followed by another and they just keep digging a deeper hole to climb out of. The end result may well be the same though.
