View Full Version : The stars of this era who will never win championships?

Connor B

Who are the rising stars/established stars of this era who you think will not ever win rings (at any point in their career) based on either the field (i.e. the Heat, a loaded west etc.) and/or their own lack of ability/drive?

This is hard to predict because things are always changing and new superteams could be formed, but there are some obvious ones for me...

Dwight Howard - I don't really mistrust his drive, but he is stuck in Houston for a while and I don't think they can beat the current Warriors or Thunder and it seems those 3 teams will have consistent rosters for a while. By the time he gets another shot on another team he will be into his thirties and there's no telling how long he will remain a star player.

Chris Paul - He puts up great stats and is a very good player, but I don't think he can lead a team in the playoffs. That crap about him improving in the playoffs was actually only true in NOLA and has not been true in L.A. He is in L.A. for a while I think and that team is not as good as healthy Warriors or Thunder. Similar situation as Dwight.

Carmelo Anthony - he is one of the most disappointing playoff players ever. Even if he went to a great team in 2014, I still wouldn't see them winning but he has a first option simply doesn't not make enough of an impact.

I say, we just wait till their retired and see who hasn't been on championship team.

How about that ?

I agree with Harden and almost included him on my list, but he is still too young for me to say. I agree though he is overrated and does not have the necessary impact.

Harden. Book it...he'll never win a ring.

Howard might if he ditches Harden (or if Harden ditches Houston) and he teams up with a true alpha who plays on both sides of the court.

Blake Griffin. He'll never sniff a ring.

Or he can take the lebron-shortcut: join 2 other stars in their primes, preferably one ex-FMVP. Then he'll win for sure.

I dont think any list of players for this thread is possible, because if a star wants to win that badly, all he needs to do is take the lebron-shortcut.

That doesn't even begin to describe the amount of hate Harden gets. Basically, these two are the most hated players here, along with Paul.

Superior playoff performer?? really?

How did he do in his first finals? How about 2011? And when he quit in game 5? His elbow?

Only reason he upped his average now is because of his stacked team. Dude will crumple if he doesn't have help, as evidenced even in 2013 finals. He couldn't hit a shot outside the paint and got shut down by Boris Diaw.

Wrong again. Lakers last year were no superteam. Nash was 38? and injured most of the times. Kobe was in his 17th season. Pau was over his prime and also injured often. Dwight was recovering from his injury and was useless offensively.

A superstar team only works if the players are all in or around their primes. Lebron and the heat are the only ones who got this correct. This year Net failed because their superstars are all old and out of their prime, like the Lakers too.

If CP3, KD, and Dwight form a team currently, they would be a real superteam, and lebron would wet his bed everyday.
