View Full Version : Kevin "Empty stats" Durant

48/7/5 but couldn't lead his team to a win
When a certain Kevin Love find himself in the same position, people are quickly chanting "empty stats". :confusedshrug:

This game was the definition of empty stats. Down 10+ for majority of the game, closest they got was 6. But Hayward and the Jazz weren't having that. As Trollsmasher pointed out in the thread, Durant was 0-6 in the fourth but made 11 FTs. Had no impact in the fourth, literally none. Empty stats.

That's what happens when the REAL MVPs of the team aren't there. Durant put up some FT-padded stats, but they don't reflect the impact he had on this game.

I though people would have learn from last year's Grizzlies series who the real MVP of the team is, but I guess not...

Reminds of the game last year when LeBron came to OKC and shat on Durant's homecourt. Durant had like 15 empty stats FTs in the 4th, even though there was no chance of coming back:lol

Guy just kept sprinting down the court again and again, jumping into players and waltzing to the foul line after any kind of contact.

I'd understand if they got blown out and Durant had a subpar game, but dude just put up 48 points AGAIN, and almost brought them back, AGAIN. That's some MVP type shit. Especially without 2 of their top 3 players.

LeBron doesn't take as many shots as Durant, and can afford to cherry pick his shots as he has options such as Wade and Bosh and elite 3 point shooters.

While only one of Durant's teammates scored double figures this game.

Thats not really the entire difference, the difference is that Lebron does a much greater job at exploiting what he has around him, take a look at Lebron in his Cavs days to better see/compare against the current KD & his supporting cast, he still would have up to the best team records in the NBA playing with worse supporting casts than KD has right now.... Do you know why? KD is a fantastic scorer, but that is his only way of signficantly making the opponents pay, right now he has improved as a passer, but not to the point where he can really damage opponents consistenly like lets say even win games with his passing/vision...... even if your teammates keep bricking you need to always trust & look for them & create for them.... even if they brick alot it keeps the defense honest overall and makes it even easier for you to score aswell...

As long as you know you did that then you dont have to worry about any loss.... teams get hot & defense is not something you can make your teammates better at either... offensively you can... I am not blaming this loss on KD not passing enough or something, not at all, i am just talking about the difference between Lebron/Durant here and ofcourse i just think KD could logically have a greater impact overall if he also had elite playmaking ability....

LeBron was on the bench until the refs somehow got Durant to the line every possession to make it close. LeBron re-enters the game, hits a nasty spinning fadeaway with OKC's frontcourt in his face and shuts everyone up lol.

No he was not guarding Hayward. As a bran stan i'm sure you could understand that he can't possibly have the energy to guard the opposing team's best player when you're the only one on the team doing anything offensively. Maybe you noticed the 2012 Finals, when Battier guarded Durant for majority of the games while bran hid on Kendrick Perkins

Kobe is so damn competitive that he would have guarded Dwight if he noticed that Gasol and Bynum were getting dominated. Now that's competitive nature  One loves competition, the other likes to join it. Let's see where he runs to once he realizes Wade is officially broken down.

Meanwhile Durant will win rings with the team he was drafted to.

What you're saying is true, but still though. The Spurs beat the Dubs without Timmy, Parker, or Manu (nasty loss) and a no-Lebron Heat took out your Blazers at home. But now all of a sudden the best player on the 3rd seeded team can't beat the likes of Randy Foye with Westbrook (and Ibaka for the last game) out?

All I'm saying is the Patty Mills-led Spurs can take out the Warriors in Oakland but the #2 player in the league (who some claim is actually better than Bron) loses back to back games against lottery teams :confusedshrug:

In regards to the Spurs, they have an INCREDIBLE coach. I mean, Brooks isn't even a good coach, yet alone a great coach. That makes a huge difference to the role players. Spurs are a better team all-round, OKC just have the better stars.. that's why it hits OKC harder.

Heat have some diminishing returns with all of Lebron/Wade/Bosh out there, so missing one of those isn't really that bad either. Plus, Bosh is worlds better than Ibaka.

If OKC wasn't down 3 at that time, you would have a perfectly valid argument and he should have dunked it. However given they were down 3, with no timeouts, and 10 seconds left, they HAD to have a 3. Durant made the right basketball play by collapsing the defensing and setting up an open 3.
