LaceGate: NBA fines J.R. Smith $50,000 for "repeated" incidents of unsportsmanlike conduct.

For him doing the motion of untieing shoes yesterday after being told to stop.

He deserves it 100%.

JR is the best asshole in the league. He does it playfully and comes across midly retarded. Cuz is just straight up an asshole.

The only thing I don't like is people are going to say he did it twice, he didn't. Yesterday he got in trouble because you shouldn't push your luck, but honestly he did nothing. It's a bit of a stretch for a large fine.

when you are use to get away with things you tend to push the envelope

JR is playing for an org with an owner that's enamored with him for some reason. Any chance of this boy curbing his retardation is gone for good

he might not show it but 50k is a lot of money for anyone who isn't a max player(superstar) in the league.

See this was my point, he didn't try to do it, he was jawing with Monroe, he made the motion. If i laugh at you for getting caught smackign someone, and you make a smacking motion (but don't hit me), that's not doing the same thing twice. That's what he did.

Thats cool, but you know how the league is, things are always blown out of proportion, why give it a chance?

he has done it at least twice

He was fined after yesterday, which means he was fined for "making a motion that looked like the thing he was told not to do".

I have no problem with him being fined because he's being an asshole and it's the league doing the Knick's job. But removing the fact it's JR from it, it's another example of the league fining people randomly when they feel like it.

There is very little logic or consistency to a lot of what the league does in terms of penalties within games or after games.

Does Woodson ever say anything? He seems hellbent on burying Beno before saying anything negative about JR.

Deserved it. I don't care if he did it to be funny or clown around. If you do the math, thats gamepay for someone making around 4 mill a year. I dunno his salary, but I think it's somewhere in that range. Dude accepted less money to play in the tri-state area. Not that I was happy he was back because I wasn't. I'm sure he learned his lesson.

He's gonna be broke 2 years after he retires, it's pretty obvious.

JR Smith used to be such an exciting player to watch in Denver. Everyone knew he had an attitude problem, but he'd make up for it with exciting plays. These days, it doesn't matter about the excitement anymore. He can throw down a one handed reverse alley oop dunk, but it'll be forgotten as quickly as he allows it to be with his low IQ actions on the court.
Knicks fans seriously deserve better than this.

JR is making about 5.5 mil this season, so they are fining him approximately 1% of his gross salary. For the average person, that might equate to around a $300-800 dollar fine. It would hurt for sure, but if you're not living paycheck to paycheck, it's not going to change your lifestyle.

None of this is surprising.
He should have been out of the league years ago.
Nugz and Knicks fans used to berate me for that comment.
But he literally should not have a job.
He should still be in jail for vehicular homicide.

I'm a Nuggets fan and I'd agree with you, I was glad he was gone.
When I heard we were thinking of getting him at the start of this season, I was like

Of course he'll keep doing it, 50k ain't nothing to him. I personally don't understand why the NBA.. NFL or any sports organization that pays their athletes millions of dollars even bothers with these nickel and dime fees.

Hell I'd speed everywhere if speeding tickets were $5 bucks.

So no one else sees anything wrong with fining a player 50 000$ for attempting to untie someone's shoe? :confusedshrug:

Those NBA fines are getting ridiculous

None at all, he was warned not to do it after doing it for a second time...

Teams pay players a bunch of money to be on the floor, don't need some idiot doing something that could get somebody hurt
