Actively seek out posts they can rip on? (Post negatively)

or

Respond to good posts/posting? (Post positively)

Who's in which category?
Or do you find it's perfectly down the middle?

I take it most posters are the first one and that's why there's no resonses

Most are probably the first. I think I'm more the first than the second tbh

I always try to respond in a way that's not insulting, even though sometimes it warrants it. Yet I still don't curse. I guess it's the fact that I'm in upper 20's and realize most posters are in their teens.

Def the first since it's just the infectious nature of ISH. When I first came to this place, I was more of the second one and liked reading good informational posts. But now I just skim so I can clown someone

*Regarding the NBA forum at least*

That's just your perspective relative to the replies you get.

You post controversial views and people reply with reality.

This place isn't negative at all. It's all love.

lol, if this place is "all love" to you then you don't know what love is

this place, and the entire internet in general really, is loaded with negativity...it's a place where people can come and let their negative vibes loose without the fear of catching an uppercut...or losing their job, or friends, etc...

Not only insult, I find there are posters who solely come on here to read through post and just nitpick the ones they don't agree with or a poster that they don't like.

If you want love, go to reddit. Say something negative about any player on r/nba and you will get downvoted to seven hells.

I think that apart from few obvious sociopaths on this site, the trolling is mostly good hearted.

I've been a fckn d!ckhead here last few months but I'm usually a lot more supportive and encouraging, applauding optimistic posts etc. I wanna get back to that more often, the Internet world is toxic enough as is.

You forgot:

C) Come here to peddle shitty overpriced sugar pills.

I suppose I'm one of the more positive guys here.

There isn't much point just congratulating good posts. It is kind of boring. Sometimes a good post will come up and I will give it props (or rep which no one really sees) but generally I prefer a debate of sorts. Although I don't think ripping or negative are necessarily the words I would use. I just think a discussion between two people with opposing points of view is far more interesting than a discussion between people with the same point of view.

it's one thing to have a healthy debate, it's another to activively look only for post they can nitpick. For example, I've never seen a post where LLJ is not criticizing or putting somebody down. Case in point the post above. That's his persona around here.

No offense of course

Maybe I should start threads about shitty off brand sneakers I'm selling. That would be much better.

I think the norm is the first one.

But that's just how the internet works in general. I think that most of us post when we disagree on something, otherwise it's usually a simple "c/s" or "what the OP said" type of reply.

I 'try' not to be a d*ck and approach posts in the same manner that I'd approach a real life convo (although it almost always gets lost in translation via text.).

-p.tiddy-
01-09-2014, 12:19 AM
disagreeing and debating is one thing...there are no threads that are just 5 pages of nothing but "yeah I agree OP!, hey you're awesome man, I love you!"

but it's another thing to disagree while name calling and insulting along the way in every post...that is when it is truly negative, and there is an abundance of that here.

part of it is the lack of mods though...I'm a member of other sports forums where any insult just gets you banned right away, it is not tolerated, and the atmosphere is totally different on those sites.

To be honest though, one of the things I like about this place is the freedom to insult, however it does come with it's minuses, which is having trolls run freely everywhere, they can be ignored though

I look for entertaining, funny or interesting stuff and will respond sometimes. Other than that if someone rises above the mere childish antics around here (which just gets ignored) to say something truly stupid, sometimes I just can't bite my tongue errr fingers and have to rail on the ISHiot

I post positive most of the time and I usually avoid "troll" threads, but people say I try too hard to be neutral because I'm a Heat fan as if I'm supposed to be on a side. I don't mind people trashing each other; it's just that it's the same threads over and over again. It's the same people using the same jokes and agendas. I only come on for 10 minutes now on the basketball forum. I only talk on the Heat game threads now or in a Heat thread. I've lost interest in getting into the same debates over and over again.

The only poster I rip on is Euroleague.

Most of the overly negative posters aren't worth your time but some people that are really blunt get label as purely negative despite bringing value to debate. I think LJJ is a good example.

I normally try to civilly disagree becuase we are all humans but it can be hard to resist the allure of being an asshole on the internet sometimes. I think the internet in general rewards people for being blunt and risque which accounts for a lot of the overt negativity.

Usually the 2nd since I usually don't want to expend the energy on getting into pissy little arguments with people on the Internet.
