First 6 years in the league, was averaging 19.7 PPG/6.1 RPG/6.5 APG(2003-04 brought down his points and rebounds). Take out '03-'04, his averages are 20.3 PPG/6.2 RPG/6.5 APG.

Oscar Robertson(25.7/9.5/7.5) and Larry Bird(24.3/10.0/6.3) are the only Hall of Famers to average 20/6/6 for their careers while only a handful of others come close. Regardless of the situation and other aspects of his game, those are impressive numbers to average for a 5-6 year span. Makes me wonder how his career would have turned out if him and Mobley stayed in Houston and Van Gundy didn't take over as coach.

Hate to break the bad news but steve francis was and is who we thought he was. Those first five or six years were always gonna be is best regardless! Just like stephon marbury....they both were flashes in a pan type players. They should of both had long great careers but ego, work ethic and attitude killed em.

I dont even remember steve francis playin for the magic and thats sad. Real sad considering he was traded for tmac and i vividly remember tmac playing the rockets!!!!!!! And no im not young by any means

Entertaining Steve Francis video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wb_RfJOSLo

Apparently TNT somehow decided to keep the mics relatively open and loud during on-court play at All-Star Weekend 2001. Pretty funny at the 52 second mark to hear Francis say "Watch out, watch out, watch out!" as he prepares to break down Kenyon Martin, only for K-Mart to respond, "I ain't fallin' for that bull****."

Steve Francis was ruined when he was forced to play more like a PG

Franchise at his best was a pure beast. He played PG and played it damn good. But frankly, he was more of a combo or scoring PG. Kind of like guys like AI, Westbrook, or Rose for example. AI made the move to SG and thrived big time. But AI was gonna be great at PG or SG. I think Franchise being bigger at 6'3 and 200 pounds might have been better off at SG. But the size and athletic ability he brought to the table was more unique at PG. He was indeed a precursor to Rose, Westbrook, and Wall. Can thrive at either spot, but some of those kind of guys could be better off at SG. The number Franchise put up can't be denied. Shame what happened to him with the injuries and drugs.

I also see he's compared to Marbury. But I feel Marbury was way better as a floor general. Steph thought closer to pass first than guys like Rose, Westbrook, or Francis, but was quicker on the trigger than guys like Nash or Kidd when it came to scoring. Steph at his best was putting up career numbers of 20 points and 8 assists several seasons into his career. Only Big O was doing that kind of stuff at the time.

He was a great rebounder.

I wonder if he rebounded well after his breakup from his lover Cuttino Mobley.

Yes and his BBall IQ, just wow it was so damn bad and unfortunately for him, that's what counts. The guy was exciting to see run the break but he was a poor shooter, poor with the ball and in spite of his numbers, a poor passer. Dude would dribble 22 seconds off the clock and then either heave a shot up or dump it off to someone for a last second shot. Did not have good court vision just had the ball all the time. Brutal basketball player but he was exciting sometimes. Total uncoachable moron.

That was Jeff Van Gundy's decision and even he admitted he made a mistake. Not long ago, Van Gundy was calling a Thunder game and when referring to Russell Westbrook, he said "I used to coach a guy like him. His name was Steve Francis".

I was a big Francis fan, even when he played at Maryland. He was definitely a one-dimensional scoring guard... but man was he exciting to watch. He would be a terror with the modern defensive rules.
