The top three clearly are Sitting on the Dock of the Bay, What's going on, and Papa was a Rolling Stone. Although maybe not in that order.

GOAT song ever imo
My Girl- Tempts
A simple, yet true song.

Ain't Too Proud to Beg for the Tempts
(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay for the top song
And perhaps Respect to round out the top 3

Sam Cooke - A change is gonna come, Bring it on home to me
The Supremes' "Can't hurry love"'s bass rhythm & riff was covered alot. Not the GOAT R&B song, but very influental rhythm.

Two of my favorite classics:
Ain't No Mountain - Marvin Gaye
Let's Get it on - Marvin Gaye
The best contemporary R&B songs, in chronological order:
I will always love you - Whitney Houston (yes i know its a cover)
End of the Road - Boyz 2 Men (written by Babyface)
I believe I can fly - R. Kelly
If I ain't got you - Alicia Keys
Ignition remix - R Kelly
Let Me Love you - Mario (but its written by Ne-yo)
So Sick - Ne-yo
Irreplaceable - Beyonce (but its written by Ne-yo)
Thinkin' Bout You - Frank Ocean
And here are some of my personal favorites, that for some reason don't get quite as much recognition:
Down Low - R. Kelly
Twisted - Keith Sweat
Angel of Mine - Monica
4 Seasons of Loneliness - Boyz 2 Men
Pass You by - Boyz 2 Men
I Wish - R Kelly
Can't help but wait - Trey Songz
Fall for your type - Jamie Foxx feat. Drake
Unthinkable - Alicia Keys & Drake
Novacane - Frank Ocean
I had to go all out here in this thread...I've been listening to more R&B lately, as hip-hop is wearing me out and i haven't been keeping up with it lately
I don't know if it's the best or greatest ever R&B song, but one that's always been a personal favorite of mine and was hot for that summer when it first came out then sharply fell off the map unfortunately:
The Dove Shack - Summertime in the LBC

Another one that's always been highly underrated. and it's I suppose semi-R&B b/c there's a rap verse on there by Guru. I can't recall exactly which Jazzmatazz (sp?) it appeared on, but one of my favorites from the series (I think Guru made what, 3 or 4 of them Jazzmatazz bitches?).
Guru - Trust Me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kE8d0uOX8d4
... and while we're on Jazzmatazz, another classic ya'll should appreciate.
No More - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMI4SKdJDTY
It's off Jazzmatazz Volume 3 (Streetsoul) is probably the pinnacle of work from the trilogy.
Here's the whole thing is you'-re interested.

Be sure to listen to Keep Your Worries, All I Said, Guidance, Who's There and Mashin' Up the World. If you can't find any ear value in all that is Jazzmatazz Volume 3 - Streetsoul, then I'd love you to reply with something that trumps it.

2-PAC Changes/California Love. Just to name a few.
2-PAC Changes/California Love. Just to name a few.
California Love R&B? I realize I was reaching posting all those Guru Streetsoul tracks, but they're much more R&B than Pac's California Love, surely. California Love is much more rap/funk than anything else.
"Out on bail fresh outta jail, California dreamin
Soon as I stepped on the scene, I'm hearin hoochies screamin
Fiendin for money and alcohol
The life of a west side playa where cowards die and it's all ball
Only in Cali where we riot not rally to live and die"
Not exactly rhythm & blues.

I've always liked/respected your tastes in music Rasheed, especially on the R&B side of things. I know you've heard your fair share of Gang Starr, but I'm wondering have you heard much of Guru's Jazzmatazz side projects/albums?
:confusedshrug:
There's no Primo, but they're ear-pleasing in their own right. Let me know what you think of these couple tracks off Volume 3 - Streetsoul.
Guidance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xe8ogACrvuI)
Who's There (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmVOBFaaFiY)
I think you'll like/appreciate these if you haven't heard them already.

Oops wrong thread. When I saw the thread title, I though it was rap/hip hop. Epic fail on my part.

Nah, it's cool man. No big deal at all. All good. Not even close to some "epic fail" type sheet. All the trash that's been circulating this board the past couple months, I'd say you have little to worry about before you reach that (epic fail) plateau of terrible posting.
