View Full Version : REPORT: Lin and Asik likely NOT to be traded.

[QUOTE]A month ago, it seemed to be an inevitability. Rockets center Omer Asik was unhappy with his role behind newly signed star Dwight Howard, and had requested a trade.
Now, league sources have told Sporting News that it will be increasingly difficult for Houston to move Asik, who has been out since the beginning of December with a deep thigh bruise. Asik could return soon, and when he does, it is likely that he will finish out the year with Houston. The same, too, could be said of point guard Jeremy Lin.

Poor Asik, wasting his career as a backup when he's better than half the starting Cs in the league.

Wow. They really better hope Asik buys in...
Because they aren't winning this year or next unless something changes. So you are losing your first two years with Howard as a contender already...not a good look.

I can understand Asik wanting to be a starter. I wish somebody could ask him if he thinks he should start over Dwight fuggin Howard though. If Asik is still collecting his paycheck then he doesn't have a leg to stand on imo.

They are equal rebounders, Asik is a better man defender, Asik doesn't demand isos and have 6 TOs a game, you tell me who is better. The Rockets sure looked a lot better last year with Asik starting. He knew his role.

I understand Asik, but why trade Lin? He seems to fit well within the team and he also brings marketing.
Because Lin has shown that without Harden jacking up pull-up 3s or getting to the line all the time, he can run an offense very well. He is a very good point guard in this game, and deserves to be in a place that appreciates him and uses him well. Instead, he's pretty much their go-to scapegoat. He gets destroyed on a regular basis until he explodes for 30+ points, then they shut up for a little while.
That being said, he's welcome in Milwaukee. He can run the point so BKnight can focus on scoring. After all this trouble, he deserves some chips.

Yeah that's why I ain't like **** Asik. He still collecting them checks though. If he refused to be paid or something like that then I'd really rally for him. I can't knock that man one bit though for wanting to be a starter. I imagine Morey was completely honest with those promises. Shit happens though.

That's tough but that's the NBA. Eric Gordon and Chris Kaman got promised that they wouldn't be traded after the Chris Paul trade to Lakers was announced, and then the NBA blocked it and guess what, they got traded.

Would love to have Asik in Portland of he weren't such a baby. Dude would fit in perfectly. Lopez has been great for us though, but we need the extra defensive pressure Asik could bring. Perkins is off OKC's books after next season, maybe they could have make a run for him?

Look at our record this season vs our record last season. They may be equal rebounders, but that's it. Again bro, have you actually watched the Rockets this season? I understand that you're butthurt and salty that he left, but to say that Asik is better than him makes any point you might have rather useless. Quit being salty man. Morey got us Harden, Parsons, Dwight, Asik and Lin. I would say he's done a great job. Yall act like Asik is the first player in history to demand a trade. We should have just sat on all that money and not made a run at Dwight?

You have to feel a bit for Asik, he signed the contract being promised a starting role and has been reduced to a bench warmer, Morey cockblocked him by signing Dwight, the man is playing for his next paycheck, do the right thing and let him go.

Yeah I'm not tripping on him demanding a trade not one bit. I won't turn a blind eye from how he's been acting though. Team comes first. I doubt he hurts our chemistry. He's not a big distraction. If he was an American born athlete then i'd think differently.

I still think Morey could flip Asik for a role player that would help the team, that and then fire McHale and hire Hollins.

I think he will eventually. Asik not playing right now won't make or break us either. We aren't in a win now situation. We're still a work in progress. Firing McHale is the only thing I'd want us to rush and do today.

I was watching the Simmons and Rose podcast a couple of days ago and they presented a fairly good trade scenario between the Rockets-Wolves-Pelicans.
Asik to the Wolves to protect Love on defense. Pekovic to the Pelicans to play alongside Davis. Anderson to the Rockets as the perfect complimentary player to Howard.

The pressure is still on Dwight to perform this season though, he knows that, McHale needs to go, unless he magically gets a playbook shoved in his head.

He's performed fine I would say. I'm not gonna say he's been killing it every single night, but hell that's the problem with our entire team lol.
I'm not so much fed up with McHale on the offensive end. We can stick to the basics and PnR or Iso all day. We can put up points even on an off night. My main thing is defense. We need a coach that will bench any player for half assing it. McHale only benches Lin and that makes no sense to me.

I mean the pressure is on for Dwight to go deep into the playoffs, he acknowledged it in an interview before the season started if I can remember correctly.

Asik needs to stop fronting and play already. He's been out for more than a month with a 'bruised thigh.'
Quit being a big baby and do your job. What did he expect Morey to do? Not sign the best center in the NBA? Please, he needs to stop whining and play his heart out like he usually does. Houston needs his size.

Ehhh we're realistic here in Houston. We understand that things take time. As long as he goes out and gives it his all, then any Houston Rockets fan will be happy. As long as we don't lose to a lower seed then we're on track. I'm saying out of the first round, but hell if we lose to one of the top 4 teams then it's just the luck of the draw.

I don't think you will win either, but the pressure will still be there, I reckon once the team starts to commit 100% on defense then you will see vast improvements.

Supposedly his injury is legit. I don't doubt it, but I think by now he should be healthy enough to play. IMO the injury was used by management as an excuse to sit him down to avoid any distractions.
Bill Worrell said yesterday that Asik is close to coming back so IDK. I think they're stalling. If this were any other player he'd be catching a lot more heat.

Houston has had some back luck in talent recruiting.
Pay Jeremy to be a distributor, end up signing James Harden as your ball-dominant feature guard almost immediately afterwards.
Pay Asik to be the premier big man on your team. Get Dwight a year later.
Knowing Houston's luck, Chandler Parsons will re-sign to a $10M deal this summer, only to discover somehow Harden convinces Durant to sign for the minimum.

Injuries pretty much ruined our chances of winning. We want to win every year, but that's not realistic. The fans are realists.
The funny part is that all the shit you talk about Dwight, your team put billboards up for him to stay. You almost make it seem like we made a mistake by signing him. Is that what you honestly think?

There was no luck involved here. Every single move was planned. Unfortunately, Morey seems to view players quite literally like stocks - assets to be traded when high, and buy-lows to be plugged into the team. He's an advanced statistic genius but isn't one who pays any attention to "intangibles" or how a team fits. His view is that he flips players he can sell high, and most importantly: it's a victory for him if he screws over the other guy, not necessarily if he comes up himself. If he has to take a hit but the other guy has to take three times the hit, Morey thinks he's "won". You can see how this is biting him in the ass right now.
Speaking of which, is Sampson still away from the team? Perhaps Lin has been playing better and is being allowed to control the ball since McHale doesn't have Kelvin "Bench Lin for Toney Douglas" Sampson talking sh1t in McHale's ear. Jesus that guy is an awful, awful assistant coach.
