I'm gonna say 2016-2017 when Kobe re-signs for less money and their draft picks from this year have reached their 3rd year.

Just a guess, what say you?

They are the 2 best franchises that are both tanking right now, so I would be curious to know when they both come back to the title hunt,

for me, Lakers 2016-2017, Celtics 2017-2018.

You seriously think Kobe is going to play beyond 20 seasons? :facepalm He'll be lucky to make it through his current deal. I see the Lakers going on a long 20 year drought, especially seeing as how David Stern is retiring in 2 weeks. :lol

The Celtics will win a title before LA or at least be ready to contend for one. They have better assets and foundation to build on than LA. According to their fans LA is depending on signing multiple star players. However, when you look deeper you realize it is impossible for them to rebuild in that fashion for a few years. They have space to sign one star now and maybe a few when Kobe retires or restructures his contract.

That sounds like a good prediction, both are shaping up with capspace and possibly good draft pick or two in the upcoming draft.

I think D'Antoni is not the coach in 2016-2017, is that right? Correct me if I'm wrong...

If that is the case, then the 2016-2017 season looks the most likely.

Agreed, I think the Lakers keep him for the tank, then they part ways, D'Antoni isn't proven on a championship level and I don't see any reason to trust him.

Probably 15-20 years. Kobe has to retire, clear cap space, get rid of the current squad, rebuild, get lucky in the draft, develop, sign 2 more stars....yeah, 15 years at least.

Embiid is going to be an allstar in this league. Has all the right tools, size, speed for a bigman to be something special.

I'm pretty high on him and Marcus Smart.

I would say 5 to 10 years. As a Lakers fan Jim Buss scares the hell out of me when comes to personal decisions. I hope Jim eventually takes a step back to give Jeanie Buss more say and power or someone brought in with some experience and knowledge as an GM while Jim Buss writes the checks. The Lakers will be back strong eventually. You can count on that.

Last 20 years have shown that Lakers as a franchise are hungrier than Celtics. Actually, for last 20years, about 5-6 teams have been hungrier than Celtics and most of them are from small markets.
Bulls fans should demand more from their team too. All are big market teams and should try to win as much as they can like Lakers do.
Lakers are the clear best basketball franchise IMO.

I think D'Antoni signed a five year contract, so unless they fire him first, I think it will be at least three years after this one until the team has a new coach.

That can be dealt with probably sooner than the bigger issue, and that 'issue' is Jim Buss. I don't see much hope of him turning his role over to his sister Jeannie, so I can only hope he tires of being in way over his head and sells the team.

It's pretty sad when Donald T. Sterling's front office is making the Laker front office look like The Three Stooges. As long as Jim Buss is calling the shots, I don't have much faith that it won't just be one stupid move after another

Dude could screw up a wet dream :facepalm

He's not 'that bad', but I don't feel he's championship material. Mainly because of his lack of emphasis on defense, and I'm not sure he can handle a locker room full of egos. He might still have to lose at the highest level just to learn how to win there.

It's also kind of disappointing that Jim Buss would essentially say "anybody but Phil Jackson' when most teams would give at least one testicle to have him aboard in whatever capacity he'd be willing to participate.

No the Celtics just ran into a streak of bad luck. Not winning the Duncan sweepstakes set the franchise back a decade and that doesn't even account the devastating deaths that hit the organization.

o rly? are you forgetting the deaths of future stars in bias and lewis? in 2000 we have been competitive, do people forget that we went to the ecf in 02? we only missed the playoffs 4 times in that decade and people act like we were a lottery team in all those years :facepalm

I think that a pretty fair statement, but the C's did throw down for the big 3.

Lakers are the clear best basketball franchise IMO.

The Lakers as an organization, and in terms of attracting talent, might be in the worst shape they have been in in the past several decades. If I was a major talent, I would not have the attraction to come here until I had some confidence that the front office was being handled competently, and that is a MUCH bigger problem than just about any player or personnel issue could be.

I don't believe the Lakers are the major basketball destination they used to be and I'm sure players and their agents recognize that as well. Combine that with the fact that the salary cap and the rest of the CBA has neutered the deep pockets they used to rely on as much as they did the reputation that they operated in a first class manner (which is questionable at best at this time).
