View Full Version : Durant without Westbrook

anyone who wants to knock Durant for losing a lot of games without westbrook is out of their mind. just watch this offense, it's horrendous. teams can gear their whole scheme toward kd and he still puts up 35+ most nights on good shooting. without westbrook, the thunder are like the pre-pippen bulls or bronbron's cavaliers (whose records would not have been as good in the western conference).

it's not much of a criticism, I'm just saying those cavs teams sucked hard. don't even pretend like you don't agree that their records would not have been as good in the west. I'm not trying to take anything away from what he did there, it was a miracle that he took them to the finals and won 66 games (!) the one year with such a pitiful roster. major props to LeBron for what he did in Cleveland. don't mistake me for a hater

this thread is about Durant and westbrook. it's only about bron if you fools want to "cherry pick" that out of my post and make it about that. why is no one complaining about me bringing up Jordan? do you not agree that the situations are comparable? it's an analogy, and a relevant one

Yep, there goes that excuse Durant Stans. There is no shame in admitting that Durant is incapable of winning without a top 5 player beside him. Not everyone can be like Lebron and lead scrubs to 60 win seasons.

it will be paul George, but i think that's because there's a flaw in the way the award is given. George obviously has the better numbers and is the #1 scoring option for the pacers, but the player most valuable to the success of their team is obviously hibbert

Hibbert is really important on the defensive end. He is the reason they can play 1on1 defense a lot.his rim protection is their safety net on defense when some perimeter defender ****s up. They only help when elite players like lebron, Durant or melo are guarded by George.

yeah pretty much. i get annoyed sometimes with the level of praise pg's defense gets. he's a good defender, but is drastically overrated because hibbert makes him (and every other player on that roster) look better than they are on that end.

I have to repeat shit because it takes time for people to comprehend things...
People just don't like having their perceptions blown apart. Hell, just the other day a guy was going on about the "countless" chokes by Dirk in the playoffs. When I asked him to list them...he left the thread.
People just love labeling players. Dirk is soft and will never win. Lebron is mentally weak and a choker and won't win. Kobe won't win without Shaq. Etc...
Durant should and will win in my opinion, but obviously they need Westbrook to do that.

Exactly. THIS is the main reason OKC struggles without Westbrook. They have no offensive scheme, it's all ISO ball for their two stars, so when one of them are gone there goes 50% of their whole offensive game plan. Brooks :facepalm

I've been pro Sloan/JvG/SvG/Karl before OKC even made the finals once. They're all up for hire, not sure what the hold up is. Presti is too hesitant to pull the trigger, which is understandable since Brooks has had "success" with the team, although given the talent, who wouldn't?

Yea...the only thing you can maybe credit him with is getting the Thunder to buy in defensively last year and this year. But in terms of running real sets, strategy, adjustments...etc. He's awful and has been for years...
