If we're talking careers, Walton needs to be in tier 3, and Oscar needs to be in tier 2.
If we're talking peaks, I like the list.

Of course it always depends on criteria, but ....
Like tier 1,
Like most of tier 2 but the bottom 3 (Ewing, Walton and Mchale), don't seem like tier 2 guys to me. Only 1 MVP between them (and that in the one that had the smallest total impact due to his career being decimated by injuries) and not a lot of other MVP consideration by comparison with the rest of that tier. It's nitpicky, because they're greats but the numbers, the awards etc say they probably aren't at the level of the rest of these guys. Jerry West seems to be missing. Russell here and Olajuwon in one are semi-controversial (admittedly it is hard to isolate the value of Russell from his context, especially with limited numbers) ... I'd have to think about them. Pettit belongs here too.
Tier 3, seems a bit random, skews very modern. Drexler could be in there, Schayes, Lanier, Wilkins, Gilmore, Frazier, Havlicek (many put him around tier 2). Some would argue Gervin, Cousy, Sam Jones, Cowens, Reed, Arizin, Hayes, Unseld.

Kobe is easily tier 1, and so is Russell.

So a five time MVP, who would have probably won at least eight FMVPs had the award existed, who has 11 rings, and has been considered the GOAT on multiple "lists" throughout the years...is a second tier guy?
I would love to see the criteria you used to arrive at that conclusion...

russell needs to be in tier one
you dont win it all that many times without immense impact

I used tier rankings only... and a rule that I follow is if there is a clear "player X is better than player Y" then they do not belong in the same tier.
An argument can be made that Shaq, Kareem, Wilt, Hakeem (and I have Russell, but you don't, so I'll leave him out) are all similar players. They're all tier 1 guys for me.
Looking at your list (granted you likely used different criteria), what argument can be made that says Ewing was as good as Russell?
And I'm sure there are other "errors", but that one just leaped off the page at me.

List became a joke when you forced yourself to Put Kobe in tier 2.
Shit , just look at tier 2 , its filled with one and dones (aside from Russ)
Russ and Kobe deserve to be tier one.

Not a fan of threads where posters ask others to see their lists.
1) Often, they are a subtle dig at one particular player.
2) Often, they are pushing an agenda against conventional wisdom.
3) Or, just leave off certain players which kind of ruins their credibility.
A few of the more notable questions with this "list:"
- Where the hell is Jerry West? His exclusion makes the OP look foolish.
- Ray Allen (Reggie Miller, but not Ray Allen?)
- Russell not in Tier 1?
- Bryant not in Tier 1? (but I understand the polarizing figure he is...)
There are others. Those were the ones that jumped out immediately. The list isn't good enough for me to look harder...

Keep in mind that not all players is tiered. i.e Pippen could make tier 2 and many other players can make tier 3.

Forgot:
Iverson in Tier 2
Kidd in Tier 3
Dumars in Tier 3
R. Miller in Tier 3
M. Richmond in Tier 3
R. Allen in Tier 3
C. Mullin in Tier 3
Probably forgot some other names here and there too, but the GOAT, Tier 1, and Tier 2 w/ Iverson is pretty much as accurate as it gets. No qualms should be made in those places. I defy someone to tell me where I messed it up.

What does Kevin Mchale have over Pippen that makes you put him in tier two and Pippen in tier three?

Just the fact that you have Russell in tier 2 and Oscar in tier 1 makes this an awful list. They played at the same time and there was not one coach in the league at that time that would ever take Oscar over Russell. Its not even close.
There is a top 6 in basketball. Then everyone else. LeBron is getting close to making it top 7.

If we're talking careers, Walton needs to be in tier 3, and Oscar needs to be in tier 2.
If we're talking peaks, I like the list.
I never understand points like this about Walton. Either you rank him by his best and that rank would be very high, or you rank him by career and then he is not ranked even tier 3. I rank him very high. I am ranking the best players ever not the healthiest players ever.
