View Full Version : Giannis Antetokounmpo will be a top 10 player (Greek Freak Discussion)
Bucks are terrible, but he makes them worth watching if you get a chance. Has anybody else watched him? I'm predicting that in several years, he will be a top 10 talent in the league.

Let's be honest here. Everyone is hyping this kid to be something transcendent and quite frankly I wish he does become everything he can be. I'm just not ready for the backlash when things turn sour. We've heard this story before and it's not fair to put this much pressure on dude.

He shows flashes....the game vs. OKC was good.
but for every good game he has terrible terrible games.....I have him on my roster in fantasy basketball(we keep 4 players and a rookie every year) so I pay close attention to what he does.
The big thing is that he's very young, and becasue of the state of The Bucs he's getting a lot of run.

I still see something resembling Batum, except with more of an opportunity. Which is not bad at all...
This is the team I'm hoping gets the #1 pick. They're pretty close to having a championship core. Tho, I don't know what's up with Sanders.

Good. I'm glad we're finally discussing this in the form of a formal thread.
People forget that he's only a few months older than Wiggins & Parker, and younger than Randle, Smart, and Embiid. If he was in college right now people would be *****ing their pants over him. Future 7 footer with a ridiculous length and even more athleticism than Durant, legit PG instincts and vision, great handles for his size, relentless motor and competitiveness, and limitless defensive potential. If he keeps building on this and works on his jumper, there is no ceiling. Top 10 might be the understatement of the century.

I'm not really invested in him. I just think he could be that good. At his age with his drive and natural abilities, I just think he will thrive.

I thought the rule was you have to be 19 before the start of the season. I need to brush up on my draft rules.

I completely disagree but I definitely see him making at least one All-Star team. The guy is very similar to a young Andrei Kirlenko.
he definitely has the potential and the physical tools to become a great player... however he will need a competent club and a good coach to guide him.. and i dont think that he will find these in Milwaukee

does he have the biggest hands in the nba or something?
I believe (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong) that Greg Smith of the Houston Rockets has the largest hands ever measured at the NBA combine.
Regarding Giannis, I think as others have said that it's unfair to "expect" him to become a top 10 or top 5 player in the league. He may become an absolute defensive juggernaut but peaks at 15ppg (for example, no one would call Tony Allen anywhere near a top 10 or even 25 player) Or, he may become a 20+ ppg scorer, it's too early to say.
I have very high hopes on the kid. If he is able to keep his fantastic mindset (read his blog posts) then he can become something really great. He can hit 3s (very inconsistently) and I saw a highlight where he Dirk'ed someone  and he's very young, but no way to tell if he will have a good shot.

He has tremendous talent obviously, but he was just the 4th to 5th best player on Greece's under 20 national team, and just a role player in the Greek 2nd division.
Regardless of him starting in the NBA at age 19......it does not mean jack shit, because it's on a terrible tanking team in the NBA regular season, that is trying to lose on purpose. So that literally means jack shit.
He has incredible talent, but he has not really shown anything more than talent yet. Still though, his talent is incredible.

He has huge talent. But he is just a talent, with great skills. The Bucks could not win more than 1-2 games in Euroleague, if even that.

He's way behind KD offensively when he entered the league, but defensively way better, and a solid play maker. He's got a long way ahead offensively but should be reach his potential, he'd be like a better Marion, pushing out 20 and 10 with a more assists. But that's again, not realizable at this moment, but the potential is certainly there.

The corpse of Nocioni is the guy that played in the NBA idiot. The one that was an alcoholic drunk. The one that plays in Euroleague does not drink alcohol.
Of course, if you had an IQ over 50, you would know that.
Nocioni was an extreme alcoholic when he played in the NBA. That was "the corpse of Nocioni".
NBA Nocioni = "corpse of Nocioni"
Euroleague Nocioni = superior version of Nocioni
As Nocioni said himself, it took him like 2 years just to get his body normal again. You should be wondering how a drunk was able to play in the NBA.
Oh no wait.........the NBA is loaded with drunks, pot heads, and roided up freaks.
You really are stupid.
And once again, for about the 100th time, Euroleague MVP of the month awards encompass 3 games and only go to players from teams that won every game and have the highest +/- idiot. So basically, there are like 2 or 3 players in the whole league that are even eligible for the freaking award every month.
This has been explained to you about 100 times already, and yet you continue to troll endlessly about it, because you are such a freaking creep.

Euroleague man, where do you find this energy to constantly deal with people who are underrating Euroleague. You have to get used to it cause when people see i don't know Nolan Smith playing fine in Europe they think Europe is trash cause players who can't play in NBA can make a great success in Euroleague. Euroleague teams work more as a system where team and coach is above player, just look at Spurs, if they were some team in Europe who assigned Danny Green people would be like Euroleague so trash that player who is released and can't even find his place on the bench is being a starter on conteding team.
I am sure Bucks would be better in Euroleague than in the NBA and what you are giving them credit for just because NBA and its teams have more talent overall but i don't think they'd be at the top.

Oh, and why exactly are guys like Faverani, Gal Mekel, Kravstov, and Raduljlica playing in the NBA again? I mean they were never good enough to make the Euroleague............so why in the freaking hell are they in the NBA?
Pero Antic got cut by Olympiacos, and he was freaking starting for the Hawks recently.
You might want to STFU now. I realize you are too stupid to figure that out on your own, so I will just tell you for your own good.
Yawn. Now to debunk everyone of your lies and exaggerations.
As everyone on this site knows the majority of what you post are lies. So unless you post a link..LIE
Nicioni an alcoholic when he played in the NBA? Link or lie.
Never said Pargo would be the best pg in Euroleague but the facts are that last year he was released by both the Cavs and the Sixers, two of the worst NBA teams, and now is playing on one of the top Euroleague teams.
Last we all saw Gary Neal in Europe he was selected to all-Eurocup 2nd team.
Pero Antic cut by Olympaicos? Lie unless given link. The one fact is he was a major contributor and rotation player for the 2x Euroleague champions (for example in last year's final four he was 3rd on the team in mpg, 4th in scoring, 2nd in rebounds and 3rd in blocks for the Euroleague champions)
and in the NBA he is 8th on the team in mpg, 9th in scoring and 6th in blocks for a 20-19 NBA team.

I am sure Bucks would be better in Euroleague than in the NBA and what you are giving them credit for just because NBA and its teams have more talent overall but i don't think they'd be at the top.
exactly two years ago I follow this forum and can not understand why this guy do this to himself?

He never played in Greek League genius. He played in Greek 2nd Division, and yes, he was a role player.
He has huge talent. But he is just a talent, with great skills. The Bucks could not win more than 1-2 games in Euroleague, if even that.
Let's not get carried away here.
Talent level = huge.
That's all we can say for now. However, the people that compare him to Batum are idiots. He's way more talented than freaking Batum.
How many games could the Heat win in the Euroleague?

Durant is pretty unstoppable... Parsons and Draymond Green did not bother Durant even a tiny bit. Iggy let him dunk in his face. Serious question: Can Giannis become the Durant-stopper?

He already is, really. He just hasn't done it yet.
I think the bigger issue is will there ever be a Giannis stopper?

They would probably be something similar to the level of CSKA......maybe a little bit better.

Bucks would be banned from Euroleague for being too good. It would like letting Kentucky play against High School teams.
Tell me how well did Greece do against the powerhouse Nigerian Olympic Basketball team?
Bucks wouldn't have qualified for the Euroleague Top 16, that's for sure.
That's from someone who loves the NBA more than Euroleague and who's been watching both for the last 30 years:)

You are insane. The Bucks would be a lock to make the Euroleague Top 16. I would even give them a 50/50 shot of making the quarter-finals. You honestly believe that teams like Anadolu Efes and Zalgiris are better then the Bucks?
I mean the top 5-6 Euroleague team could probably compete for the playoffs in the NBA Eastern conference but after that the drop off is considerable and any team would struggle not be be the worst team in the NBA.

They would probably be something similar to the level of CSKA......maybe a little but better.
That's a good comparison.
See, there's like a third of the total NBA games played in the Euroleague.
So they would probably be somewhere around 85% of wins, after adjusting to the style of play. OKC would do good, Portland, Pacers and Spurs too. Probably Brooklyn due to the style of play, GSW too. Houston would do well, but wouldn't dominate, Dwight would be far less effective in European basketball. But low-tier NBA teams wouldn't do shit.
It's like comparing apples to oranges, different game, different style of play, less space, crowded paint, emphasis on team play and passing, coach is king. Rarely anybody plays more than 20 minutes per game.
It isn't to say the Euroleague is better than the NBA because it isn't, by any means. But it's a tough league to play, requires a lot of adjusting. Some players' style suits European basketball better than the Euroleague and some players thrive in the NBA. The best can play anywhere (see Durant, Melo, Kobe, Lebron, Wade) would wouldn't dominate the same way (how can you dominate if you play less, receive less touches and play team oriented ball?). That said, they would surely be +PPG scorers, but no way anyone puts monstrous stats, especially since assists are counted differently.

Yes the Heat with Lebron, D-Wade and Bosh would be something similar to CSKA with Weems, Krstic and Fridzon...if the Heat players played blindfolded and with one arm tied behind their backs.
Remember how Lebron dominated the international competition for his 2nd Olympic gold medal while that scrub Spanoulis got eliminated in the qualifying tournament by the Nigerian team that Lebron beat by 83 points? Lebron would win Euroleague if you put him on Lietuvos Rytas.

You're right in the second part of your post.
But, again, these are two different brands of basketball.
If you dropped the Bucks in the TOP 16 of the Euroleague as we speak, they would have trouble adjusting to the new setting.
Who would exactly carry the team, when you look at the Bucks' roster?
I mean, OJ Mayo would do fine, but at 6-5 the fine shooting guard that he is, he would give no trouble to the tougher defenses in the Euroleague, with the narrow passing lane and zone defense. Brandon Knight? Invisible. Perhaps Ilyasova, since he is familiar with the style of play. The rest? Invisible.

I dont get Euroleague at all ... You hype other players that doesnt even have a chance playing for any nba teams lucky enough to get a starting 5 in NBA Dleague yet you seem not so happy about Giannis just because he was a role player back then how old was he? like 16 ...
and if this kid played in college i have no doubts he would be in serious discussion to be in top 5 pick .. Embiid might be great and all but he is a project like this Kid.as well as wiggins So i dont understand the hate because someone foresees that he can be a great player one day. He has some KD flashes with better D.
if he reaches his potential i have no doubt he will be a top 5 player someday.
@ euroleague can you explain to me why Navarro and Calderon and elite status Euroleage but JCN got cut . and calderon never even cracked top 5 pg's?
Spanoulis sure dominated fiba.. but he cant even play as a back up .. and you are convinced that the bucks would only win 2 games... i dont quite get your logic

Spanoulis never got the proper chance to play his game with the Rockets, tough luck. He is definitively less effective outside of FIBA rules, but in that one season he was 30% of his prime. Depends on the setting, the team's style of play, the coach, the teammates, the touches you get, the role they've assigned to you.
Spanoulis in his prime in Europe would be, in the right situation, a 15/8 starting PG in the NBA at least. You really think he's not better than Beno Udrih, who posted similar numbers with the Kings back in the day? Or that Calderon is somehow better than he is? No way.
And Spanoulis never DOMINATED FIBA ball, he was one of the best point guards in Europe. Fiba ball is much more team oriented and there is no such domination. Also, Europe's most dominant players are in the NBA.
