Durant definitely the leader right now especially with Lebrons coasting statlines like tonight.. However the 2nd half of season and those two head to head matchups will also be big as well. Lebron can swing the momentum his way if heat go 2-0 and he outplays Durant head to head..would be ashame for Durant and his fans if Lebron decided to turn it on in those games.also remember its a marathon not a sprint..

If Lebron is "coasting" and his team is winning games why the hell should he be considered MVP? :oldlol: The Heat obviously don't need Lebron's best to get wins. In contrast Durant's team needs him performing at his very best to win games and in a tougher conference on top of that.

Because LeBron gets most of his buckets the same way those two guys do; uncontested dunks. It's not like he's shooting 60% on threes or long twos.

It's durant, but it's a lot closer then people think. Bron has better assists, rebounds, and a fg% that is 10% higher than Durants. Durant only has 3 more ppg n they are a wash defensively. Very close, but I'll give durant the edge because of better conference without Westbrook.

I agree KD has been the leading candidate for weeks now even before this little burst, but I think having Westbrook out hurts him a little more than helps him. Yes, his stats are bananas, but they are 5-5 in their last 10. I think the question now is with how good a record can OKC finish. Do you give him the MVP if OKC is the 4th seed in the West and Miami and Indiana both have better records?

Force
01-18-2014, 05:56 AM
Durant needs to get a better win % with Westbrook gone but he's got a great chance at winning. Goran Dragic has been off the charts and has the overachieving Suns team playing so far beyond expectations. If Bledsoe misses lots of time and the Suns work their way into the playoffs despite expectations of winning the #1 overall pick, Dragic will be in the discussion. He just needs a push from a couple writers and things can snowball the same way it did for Derrick Rose.

it is not so obvious. if half a season is all it takes for a player to be considered better than last 2 mvp and fmvp winner then you guys are just like ESPN which makes conclusion on small sample sizes.
Durant has been the MVP so far this season and that is the only sure thing anyone intelligent can say.
I was one of the few who was actually arguing with posters about KD having the potential to be top 10 and may be even top 5 all time by the time he retires. Very few agreed with me when anyone who has watched a lot of NBA can clearly see that KD has that potential and will most probably end up being as great as lebron or at least very close on the all time list by the time he retires.

In all fairness I do think that LeBron can actually be averaging 30/8/6 if he really wanted to right now, but he actively tries not to use too many possessions himself so as to have the whole team taking shots.

No that part is definitely laziness. My explanation only covered the shot taking aspect. I should've mentioned he's also been lazier this year than in years past. Be it conserving energy for the playoffs, or just not caring as much, he's definitely not putting in his best effort.

Remember, KD was the front-runner at this point last season too. Yet only a month later, LeBron had the MVP in the bag. So, relax, people. More than half the season is still left and LeBron's only marginally trailing statistically and in the standings. He's also generally very aware of what's going around the league and in the media. Let's see if he decides to up his own aggressiveness in reponse to KD's latest barrage.

Oh, no denying that he had an awful game, but that wasn't the point. The point was, he didn't come out with the intent to do much of anything, despite whatever he may have said prior to the game.

Now, KD already had a decent lead in the MVP race prior to last night's game, but the MVP race in general has barely been a talking point in the national media so far. But after last night? Talk of KD being the clear-cut MVP is everywhere, and you can bet LeBron's taken notice(or maybe I'm just hoping that's case). So I'm curious to see just how badly he wants another MVP.
