View Full Version : Most Unfair Advantage? Shaq's Size or KD's Length

Of the two, which one is more unfair? Shaquille O'Neal size to dominate the paint or Kevin Durant's length to shoot over anyone.

Shaq has the most unfair advantage because he can get the ball in deep position. However that advantage is somewhat countered by his free throw shooting. So essentially I'd say it's easier to contain Durant with legit defense, but you can contain Shaq with hack-a-shaq.

You can contain both with the right defense.

KD can shoot over anybody easy, but Shaq just as easy backs you down literally under the rim and throws you down in the hoop with the ball, those are much higher % shots... :P

Shaq was 370 pounds with a 35 inch vertical. End of discussion.

Both are unfair but KD can get a shot off every time he touches the ball.

Shaq's is more unfair because there are other players close to Durant's size. Shaq was in a league of his own.

Shaq witout a doubt. Dont underrate Durants skills. Even at 6.8 he would be a great scorer.

Shaq's size. There are several 6'9"-7-0" type players who can match-up, height wise with KD. But how many 7' foot 320-340 pound big men who could deal with Shaq.

If we define as "unfair" an advantage that you have to work the least to obtain, then Durant's length is more "unfair", since you may add size after some hard work (or after some hard eating), although genetics obviously help, at least in Shaq's case.

the most dominant player ever or a player that got bullied on defense in the finals DESPITE his so-called advantage, length.

Lemme put it this way:
most unfair advantage Shaq's size or KD's refs? :lol

Despite Shaq's size, he never the led the league in rebounding. Hell, he was outrebounded in H2H's by Rodman and Ben Wallace.

Shaq's size.

Not saying this to sound bitter (it's just truth), but I've never seen a player get away with more offensive fouls than Shaq. If any player was a bulldozer it was him. Not denying his talent or skill, however, but he was beastly and physical.

you don't get many offensive boards when you shoot 65% tbh.

To his credit, he pounded Hakeem and even Mutombo in their H2H's. Still, a 7-1 325+ man with his athleticism should have won several rebounding titles.

Shaq.

He's probably the player that requires double teaming the most in NBA history when he gets position

Shaq's size easily. Not only can Shaq dominate in scoring, but his size allows him to be a game changer on rebounding and defense as well.

How convenient. You list down two of the greatest rebounders of all time. Who wouldn't they outrebound?

Hint: the answer is not Wilt

I'd say Shaq easily, almost impossible to stop him down low.

What would people say if the question was Durant vs Dirk?

Shaq easily. How quick he was for his size was crazy. Truly a physical specimen. I'd rather just a sheer size advantage than Durants length.

Fixed.

370lb Shaq did not have the same lift as he did as a 300lb rookie.

How much taller is Durant than Shaq or are they both 7' 1?

Durant is 6-9 w/o shoes, Shaq is between 6-11.5 and 7-0.88 without shoes. Early in his career as a rookie he measured 7-0 and 7/8ths (7-0.88) but towards the end of his career he told Howard Stern he measured 6-11.5 without shoes, probably attributed to his weight gain and maybe wear and tear on the joints in his body. Either way, he's much taller than Durant.

Durant's lenght in the combination with his overall athleticism is underrated though

weight gain makes you shorter?

Weight gain, wear and tear, and age sure. A 300lb 20 year old 7 footer shrinking about an inch by the time he's on the wrong side of 35 after playing a professional sport the prior 15 years at about 50lbs overweight... yeah that inch or so that his interview on Howard Stern indicated he lost seems pretty plausible.

KD's length is the reason why it's so hard to defend him. I swear dude looks taller every time I see him play and his ability to score and take guys off the dribble makes it even harder but Shaq in his prime was just unfair

DuMa
01-19-2014, 12:16 AM
both are incredibly unfair. But Shaq was so unfair, dude was still dominating even when he was fat and out of shape. Cant say the same if Durant completely disrespected his body as well.

Hint: the answer is not Wilt

Chamberlain was stronger than Shaq (yes, stronger than Shaq); was able to leap higher; was quicker; was taller; and had a longer wing-span.

Maybe Rodman and Wallace could outrebound a lazy Shaq, but there is no way in hell that either would have come close to outrebounding Chamberlain. Russell was 6-10, and was a world-ranked high-jumper, and Chamberlain slaughtered him on the glass in their 143 career H2H's. If Russell couldn't come within 5 rpg of Wilt in their H2H's, then neither would Rodman or Wallace.

To win a 6 peat with Shaq the wing player would have to be the ultimate beta. Players like Vince Carter, T Mac, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, etc

For all of Shaq's dominance, he really struggled with the legendary Eddy Curry...

Hell, Curry had the high scoring game in their 13 H2H's.

Shaq wasn't just about size but how well he could "move around" with that size, plus he also had skill and smarts, that's what made him such a beast.
