After hearing about Durant's amazing game yesterday where he went 54/4/6 I wanted to check Kobe's 50+ games and they are pretty impressive. As you can see Kobe went crazy when his team was not so stacked. He was coasting during the three peat and back to back years.

Got older I guess. He definitely could have scored 50 multiple times last season, he had 8 40+ point games, had 2 games with 40+ points 10+ assists.

There was a game where he took 41 shots last season but he got a total of 1 free throw :facepalm

No, the reverse pivot 3 over 2x other defenders, Brandon Roy included, in the corner. Much more aesthetically pleasing, exciting 50 point game than Durant. That's for definite.

he's GOAT at undeserved FTA

still a great scorer without the nightly 06 Dwhistle treatment, but closer to like 28 @ 59 TS% rather than 30 @ 62 TS%

those missed shots turn into free throws, so a 10-20 11 FTA statline should in reality be closer to 10-22 7 FTA

I don't dislike Durant, I like him but don't love his game. He doesn't captivate me when I watch him. I also feel there is a lot of hyperbole quickly being thrown around him.

As for free throws? It's the context to which he gets to the line. He gets a slew of free throws for the type of game he plays. Jordan, LeBron, young Kobe ... they took it to the basket in the half court more frequently than Durant. I've seen KD get breathed on, initiate contact on rip through moves in the triple threat not on attacking the basket while getting calls. It's soft. It's unimaginative. It's kind of boring.

So even though the amount of free throws are comparable between all, how they get them is significantly different. Look at current LeBron, if he got the same touch, soft calls Durant gets ... he'd get at least another 4 to 5 free throws a game.

I feel like the type of calls Durant gets, in combination with his free throw shooting ability, boosts his PPG by like 3 or 4 points that he doesn't deserve. Great scorer, but padded. I've seen on eye test better scorers. T-Mac for example.

You know what, game context and eye ball test wise, your criticisms are actually pretty understandable. Don't quote me on this, but I'm positive most of his fts come from driving to the basket. He's just agressive and gets rewarded for it.

Just sayin we can't be fans of Jordan/Kobe/LeBron and bitch about Durant getting superstar calls when we know damn well those three players have gotten tons of BS super star calls aswell.

Of course everyone gets superstar calls. I agree, they also deserve them in many cases.

When I watch the consistent NORMAL calls that get Durant however to pad that PPG performance on free throws and not BUCKETS ... I feel a part of his production is artificially manufactured. Not the majority of it, I'm not disrespecting his abilities. But it definitely gives it a bit of a boost.

He gets a lot of calls in a much softer way than other superstars I've seen. The context of how quickly, and frequently he gets to the line is very different than the other guys mentioned.

Yea you right, but if he has the effort and ability to take advantage, then that's just Durant being great. Just like you can't hate on Bron runnin full speed on a fastbreak just bulldozing into a player and getting rewarded freethrows, don't particularly like it, but he has that effort and talent to do it.

i agree but if u are efficient while u dominate it is good.
