Why is he getting paid leave? (http://www.inquisitr.com/1099248/thomas-washburn-kindergarten-teacher-rips-off-girls-shirt-as-punishment-makes-her-sit-naked/)[QUOTE]Thomas Washburn is facing indecent exposure and child abuse charges after police say the Arizona kindergarten teacher ripped the shirt off a female student and then forced her to sit partially naked for 10 minutes.
Police said the 54-year-old Washburn became angry with the class recently, and while he was yelling one young girl became so frightened that she hid her face in her shirt. Washburn reportedly became even angrier at this, ripping the shirt from the girl

How the hell can a grown man get that mad at a little girl in a Kindergarten class? And her crying and hiding under her shirt makes you even MORE furious? wtf...

A patient man with a calm, nice personality could teach young kids. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. One of those "what were you thinking?!!" situations.

Why is he getting paid leave? (http://www.inquisitr.com/1099248/thomas-washburn-kindergarten-teacher-rips-off-girls-shirt-as-punishment-makes-her-sit-naked/)I would just give him "leave." As in, you're fired, good luck in prison, leave.
Prison??? Stop.
The story is EMBARRASSING on many, many levels, but it is not incredibly offensive. Seriously, words like nudity? Naked? That's sensationalism. They're only being used because the student is female, when in reality there is no distinction in upper bodies at the kindergarten level. Of course it's fundamentally unacceptable to make any child remove clothing as punishment in the classroom, but if this were a boy, the story would never make headlines. The teacher would still face discipline I'm sure, but it would never be news.
This was literally a 5 year old girl. Go to the beach and you see five year old girls without tops running around plenty. It's not sexual. Has nothing to do with that. So please leave that out of the equation. This is a sensationalist story about some pathetic teacher who did something stupid. Not dangerous or damaging.
It figures rwwg would be like "omg. zero tolerance! SEND HIM TO PRISON!"

he is getting paid leave b/c it's probably in his in his contract for protection from false accusations by crazy parents.
just b/c a parent claims he did something and says he admitted it to them doesn't mean you automatically fire the guy w/o doing a full investigation into what happened.

Read the story. He admitted to it, it's not just a rush to judgment on my part. I will admit I didn't think about him having a contract though, that could be the explanation.

I dont think a man should ever teach kids that young, especially at that age. I'd go batshit crazy with those annoying little things.I respectfully do not agree that men should not teach kids that young. Though, I agree men with the apparent issues this guy has should obviously stay far away.
I'll say, as a teacher, I have zero interest in teaching kids that young, but I've known some male teachers who've embraced that role and done a great job.

The PARENT claims he admitted it.
Police said the 54-year-old Washburn became angry with the class recently, and while he was yelling one young girl became so frightened that she hid her face in her shirt. Washburn reportedly became even angrier at this, ripping the shirt from the girl’s body.
The young girl was then forced to sit naked from the waist up for more than 10 minutes crying while Thomas Washburn reportedly held her shirt.
He eventually returned the shirt, and at the end of the school day admitted to he girl’s mother what he had done. The woman reported Washburn to the principal, who contacted the Mesa Police Department.
Police interviewed the child and her mother, but said that Thomas Washburn invoked his right to remain silent during the interview.

This isn't the Sandusky case where you're going back years into the past and have to hunt down witnesses. Everyone they need to interview is easily accessed. This guy is done for. It's more likely they're just trying to get the legalese right on the grounds for firing him.

This generation of emo kids like the OP. Nothing he did was wrong for him to be imprisoned. The teacher did overreact and has some issues himself but nothing to go to jail for.
He has no track record all those years he taught those kids and one day he goes ape shit. Makes a kid cry and rip the kid's shirt.

Perhaps
But they still need to investigate and interview the witnesses to make sure everything parent claims is correct.
I'm sure they are currently in the process of doing just that.

My degree is in elementary education (k-5), but honestly, I couldn't go below 2nd or 3rd grade. Kinda a moot point now as I've moved on from the classroom to PE. I work with kindergarten students, but I couldn't imagine an entire day. Just a small block of time.

How is ripping a kid's shirt equivalent to sexual behavior? I don't think he's a pervert but he does have some anger issues.
Happened in Mesa, Arizona, the third largest city in that state and the thirty-eighth largest city in the country.

He should go to the jail because you are not supposed to do that to a kid. Ask your grandfather if someone like a teacher did that to him. THe answer would be no, because common sense tell you to not rip a kids clothes off because she's being bad.
If that teacher slapped the kid then I would at least understand his reasoning.

My friend's kids would cry when they did something wrong and hide under the blanket on the sofa. He would get mad and rip/pull the blanket off the kid so he can talk to him.
A kid pulling his shirt over head or hiding his face is defying authority. Do I condone what the teacher did? No, he shouldn't do that when he's suppose to be the teacher of these kids.
Should he go to jail or prison? Nope.
How did ripping a kids shirt off being sexual? :facepalm
It's not a big deal. People like the OP are making it a big deal. :facepalm
You can't assault a 5 yr old child. You just can't. I can even understand more if the teacher hit them, that is wrong but at least you get why it would happen, a momentary loss of control. This was not that, this was a adult bullying a small girl.
I get some of you like to be contrary and get off on the argument but you can't do this. This guy is in a world of shit, and to do something like that to another person's kid shows just a lack of sense that some jail time might do good for. Because he might do something worse next time.

You're completely right, it was a despicable act of bullying and he should certainly lose his job. My problem is all the deviants acting like this was a sexual act of paedophilia, which is not a reasonable conclusion at all.

That's the problem of the state to prove (because they are going to try and convict him of some sort of child molesting) and his lawyer to defend.

This reminds me of strangers calling the police when they see parents' spanking their very own kids in public. Same thing in the sense that we are so sensitive nowadays, look how the OP acted. Like a woman.
Granted this wasn't the right thing to do by the teacher but in now way is it disgusting or despicable where you throw the book at the teacher. It was wrong and that's it.
Back in the days, my principal had one of those fraternity paddles above his desk. Whenever we went to the principal's office we would get spanked with it.
