View Full Version : Dwight is still terrible at posting up.

I got this from reddit:
Even with Dwight's post game's recent resurgence, it's still plain as day that posting him up is a bad play. Among the plethora of evidence that show this, here's one that really sticks out. His PPP (Points Per Possession) on post-ups is still only 0.75 (source: Synergy). The Rockets' post-ups as a team are also 0.75, which is not surprising considering that Howard accounts for 78% of Houston's post up plays. What you might find surprising is that Houston's opponents score 0.84 PPP on post-ups. That's right, the very team who's talking about posting up more is actually much worse at it than the teams it defends against! Maybe Howard should worry less about posting up and more about defending it. For comparison, Andrew Bogut, a player known for anything but inside dominance, scores 0.88 PPP.
In fact, the Rockets' offense is significantly better than their opponents' in every type of play (0.96 vs 0.87), except post-ups and isolations (0.78 vs 0.83). Unfortunately, these types of plays combine for 22% of their possessions.
A lot of other post players have much better post-ups: Hibbert (.85), Love (0.91), David Lee (0.95) to name a few.

You're great at using stats selectively.

What else do you need? Watch the games. He's still horrible at posting up. Points per possession is a simple enough stat that tells the story perfectly. It's funny when the opposing center scores more per post-up than he does :lol

Thanks for bringing Lebron into this again. And wtf? Go back and read my posts, my statement was that he has the ugliest post game out of all the greats. Where did I ignore any stats or even refer to them? Stats will say he is good around the post because that's where he cherry picks his baskets. :confusedshrug:

His moves are fine his turn over rate isn't.
He doesnt know how to seal his man off and establish position. He travels (uncalled) on most attempts due to his bad footwork. He only has about 3 moves that he uses consistently, and those moves are not very effective.
He never shows any counter moves.
You can tell he gets the ball and he just decides he's going to throw up a certain shot and execute a certain move, regardless of what the defense is doing and if thats the smart thing to do.
He's just not gifted offensively.
Rockets are holding themselves back by appeasing his ego. Why give Dwight post ups when he averages BELOW THE LEAGUE AVERAGE in points per possession down there?

Kobe Bryant is terrible at posting up too, it's so ugly. Stats only say he's good cause he cherry picks those shots.

I can see why all the lebron stans are clapping at that comment. Lebron stans are simple minded sheep. The guy's comment was empty and had no substance, otherwise he would have provided a quote or link by now.
So in this way we get to see how simple minded lebron stans are.. say smth with no substance and they'll all clap and agree with you
It's true, this fan base must average around 13-17 year old. No wonder why they worship lebron. I guess if you're simple minded, you like someone like lebron who has all those stats but is an empty player underneath :oldlol:
