View Full Version : LeBron and KD head to head

KD has been playing out of his mind for a while, carrying the Westbrook-less Thunder to big wins over GSW and Portland. But LeBron is obviously coming off a championship season and is having a good season of his own.
So when they go head to head, if Durant loses to LeBron multiple times how much will it affect his case for MVP? On the other hand if Durant beats him he's a shoe in to win it this year.

If he loses the 1st game, it doesn't effect him whatsoever. No Westbrook, in Miami. It's all about his numbers.
But good god, with the way he is playing he might drop 50 on LeBron

LeBron sweeping the series against Durant wouldn't change Durant's MVP case at all.
Durant is just having the better overall season and so is his team.
But let's not forget LeBron is having another dominant year as well.

He needs to win at least one of them, although LeBrons team>Durant's team. So it's a pretty big mountain to overcome, KD has to go off every time they meet.

LeBron is easily having his worst season in the NBA (excluding his rookie year) while KD is having his best. No chance LeBron wins MVP.

its not even a debate this year. if the rest of the season plays out the same way then voting this year should be near-unanimous

Lebrons ONLY chance to win it this year is if he OUTPLAYS Durant the 2 match ups and Heat go 2-0 plus Miami goes on a tear like 27 outa 30 2nd half of season and Lebron improves his overall Numbers even more.

He is not playing Bad just not going all out I think Lebron is at the point he rather "conserve" some energy for Playoffs as he Knows the rings are more important that trying to outgun a Younger fresher legged KD.
Come playoff time Expect Lebrons Rebounds to Jump to double digits and his assists to climb a bit as he will have the ball in his hands more and obviously play more minutes.

I feel like the Heat are just playing to get into the playoffs and not going for any records. Wade is resting a bunch and LeBron is putting great numbers but isn't as dominant as he was last season. I don't feel like they're gonna go on a huge run unless they get a weak schedule coming up (But Miami does play down to bad teams)
Durant is having an awesome season and is doing more with less, tonight no one scored more than 16 points on his team besides him who went for 46 against a very good Portland team. LeBron's team is good enough that he doesn't have to go for 30+ to win every night even when Wade isn't playing.
If Durant loses to LeBron twice but LeBron maintains his current play, I see Durant winning MVP. if LeBron's ups his play... Say after the All Star Break and beats Durant 2-1, Is see him edging Durant. But right now it's Durant's MVP.

LeBrons not playing on the same level we are accustomed to seeing, some say it's because of coasting and I tend to agree. He plays with no energy on defense or the boards. I can't say someone is having an amazing season when he isn't playing up to his potential.. Not when someone like KD plays with tenacity on defense every single night and continues to drop 30+ on offense.

KD better hope Mario 25 pts and Norris Lock down Cole aren't playing
KD might get his numbers but they won't be good percentages for sure
NO WB,MIA can focus all their attention on KD
and well KP and Serge won't have an easy time with Bosh,Birdman,Battier,Oden,Beasley
No wb means Wade can conserve his energy
With WB gone,Lamb and Reggie are either going to expect to create for team and KD or will get overwhelmed
With the addition of Beasley and Oden, and no WB OKC is a one man show
and theyre up against a team who specializes in shutting down one man teams especially with no inside presence and no big men threats

Though it really depends on Miami's mindset
Competitive game, statement game or Not showing all your cards, resting players
Played Por with no LeBron,Bosh played games by himself,
Wade sat out as well as LeBron several high profile games
Depends
with the way MVP talk is heating up though and the KD-LJ mvp best player rivalry and OKC,MIA
they just might turn it up,
Miami has been playing lazy on defense this whole month, coasting games, playing without effort and haven't had a good month in JAN
They'll either turn it up or conserve energy and not expend until playoffs
As seen they're doing the SA,200S LAL type reg season so far
Miami have looked very unimpressive this season at times. Which is dangerous if they are just coasting. It can tend to backfire just going easy just because you are the champions. Certainly didn

I wasted a #2 pick on LeBron in fantasy basketball this season. Dude is ranked #5 on the season, and his FT% is killing me (he said he was going to work on that before the season started too). I can't give LeBron the MVP since he's barely top 5 in fantasy basketball. FBB > real life, and that's a scientifical fact.
Durant is #1, but that was expected.

it DID WORK in 2011
Just well LeBron and 2011 Finals happened
started 9-8 then finished
49-16
Beat the Bulls in 5,took care of Celtics
Wade was killing in Dallas series,Dallas couldn't stop Wade yet again
and Dirk was being contained again
yet LeBron was getting 1b touches and was 2nd option playing like a 6th man
And if you're talking about Lakers then well
LAL got old HARD
Gasol somehow lost it,Artest became a shell of himself,Bynum well bynum played on/off,
Odom just crapped out,
and Dallas exposed the biggest weakness of LAL,perimeter defense
Dallas went on a barrage of threes and JJ Barea tore them up
Miami can't afford to go hard anymore with trying to make a 4th finals straight, their players are aging, having minor to major injuries and
especially with the way teams played MIA last year especially during the STREAK
Teams were playing like it was game 7 in Finals against MIAMI EVERY GAME
Every team's season was basically BEAT Miami
and in the playoffs it nearly cost them with an injured Wade,a hobbled Bosh,a worn out Battier,Haslem
Mia is following the SA method
better players be healthy, welll rested and role players get their minutes, times sop when it's time to step up or needed they can go and can take stars load off, less stress and wear and tear on players
The BIG 3 are playing some of their lowest minutes ever and have lowest usage rates since rookie season,
They're utilizing cole, chalmer, allen more and keeping the ball less in LJ and DW hands,
MIA WOULD RATHER GET A GOOD SEED AND BE WELL RESTED THEN STRIVE FOR 1ST AND BE WORN OUT(
Hell look at Chi every year they went for best rec)They were done come playoff time, players were worn out, gassed, and it became a one man team, either Rose or Nate or Deng rather than collective unit like a SA

In the grand scheme of the MVP race, H2H match-ups are irrelevant. LeBron lost to Kobe in both meetings in '09. Everybody, particularly the fans, lost their sh!t and it somewhat halted LeBron's momentum in the short term, but didn't matter in the least in the long run. LeBron still handily won the MVP because of his superior play over the course of the season and maybe even more importantly, Cleveland had the best record in the NBA. As long as Durant leads OKC to a better win % than Miami, he'll win MVP. I do think that record's very important though, because unlike LeBron/Kobe, the statistical battle between LeBron/KD is still close. Thus, the upcoming meeting is VERY important for KD to maintain his momentum in the short run. Only 2 games separate Miami and OKC, and if LeBron outplays KD that day in a Miami W, then the narrative could begin to somewhat change IF Miami's record is either tied or better than OKC's on that day.

Where the hell do these clowns get off? In last years 2 matchups, LeBron averaged 34/10/8 68 TS%. Durant averaged 37/8/4 65.5 TS%. Ya, he totally got obliterated
And before you go off on the assists, it should be noted
Game 1
Durant's teammates shot 38%
LeBron's teammates shot 43.3%
Game 2
Durant's teammates shot 40.8%
LeBron's teammates shot 44.4%
Also Durant wasn't the primary ball handler for OKC last year, nor was he near the player he is this year.

He is saying that lebron would have to dominate durant by a lot in their match ups to have a chance to win MVP this season.
Your stats prove that lebron played better by a little stats wise in H2H games last season while winning more games and having better stats for whole season. If you actually watched the games then you would know that lebron absolutely dominated in one of those and made the result a foregone conclusion in early 4th quarter. that is the game he is talking about and anyone who watched that game(even people who hate lebron) would tell you that durant scored in 4th because weird calls were made. i think he was making only free throws in a little stretch and game slowed to a crawl. He shot 15 FTs and most of them came after heat had gone ahead by a lot.
also, lebron's team mates shooting well is not a bad thing given that you are saying that he was the main ball handler in those games.

Game was done after 3 quarters (20 point lead for Miami). LeBron had 30/10/6 on a great effiency while Durant had 18 on terrible shooting percentages and basically lost the game by himself. And yeah, LeBron guarded him for most of the night. Guy was totally shook. Then he statpadded his way for 22 points in 4th quarter garbage time, most of them on his classic BS FTs.
Anybody who saw that game saw Durant get destroyed. You ain't covering that:lol

He implied LeBron absolutely took a shit on Durant. That is completely false. And I was at that Valentines game, so obviously I watched it. LeBron played phenomenally, probably his best game ever again Durant outside of his first few seasons in the league. But it's not like Durant had no impact on the game and LeBron dominating Durant was the reason for the victory. Durant went 12-24 in that game and had a big 4th quarter that almost got OKC back within striking range.
As a matter of fact, Durant has been the only one that has vastly outplayed the other in a head to head matchup here recently
Durant 29/7/6 64 TS% vs LeBron 19/8/3 42.5 TS% in March 2011
and
Durant 28/9/8 63 TS% vs LeBron 17/3/7 46.1 TS% in March 2012

IF Heat&Thunder meet in Finals, LeBron will have to go into that series with the right attitude, and battle KD left and right, firing off punches/shots, getting it in on Defense, etc. can't be none of that passive passing shit, otherwise teammates will brick shots, see it coming, while Durant just lights LeBron up for 35+... the dude is hungry right now.
BUT, if LeBron goes in there with a scorer mentality himself, while playing great defense&playmaking, it has the potential for a GOAT series.

LeBron can't guard Durant at this current level, nobody can. Durant is just too tall and too skilled at this point, and will constantly find his sweet spots. George is the most suited player for guarding him and he just got lit up for 36/10/5 70 TS%

At the end of 3rd (the technical end of the game, not 4th quarter garbage time):
Heat 88 - 69 Thunder
LeBron - 30/11/6 with 3 TOs on 10/17
Durant - 18/6/3 with 4 TOs on 4/14
So yes, Durant had a tons of negative impact and LeBron completely outplaying him was the reason the Heat won.
