View Full Version : Why don't we use advanced stats to prop up LeBron anymore?

What happened? That used to be the end all be all as to why LeBron>Kobe circa 2009-2011, but now? It seems as if all the LeBron fan's prefer using the ring argument, which is amusing because they dismissed that in the LeBron-Kobe discussions. Hell I even remember them being used to justify LeBron being the MVP over Rose in 2011 and Durant in 2012.

Why the hell do people not understand that greatness is determined by a combination of variables, not just one?
We never used advanced stats to prop up Lebron. His regular stats are better than Kobe. Which is why Kobe stans obsessed over TS%. Which is an advanced stat.

Because pretty much every advanced stat points to Lebron being either #2 to Giannis or #3 to KD and Giannis. Either way, he's no longer at the top.

LeBron always used to have the stats in his favor, so no one could doubt him as the greatest.
But now Durant has surpassed him in the stats and eye test so what does LeBron have left? James needs to step up his game big time if he doesn't want King Kevin to reign the NBA.

I don't think anybody is trying to prop up LeBron right now since it's the regular season and everybody has come to the agreement that he's coasting. That's what the eye test shows me this season. Playoff time I fully expect him to kick his shit in high gear and stop slacking.

I don't think LeBron checked out the games. I think the Spurs defense shut him down for stretches. He found different ways to effect the game than just scoring though. That's called greatness.

KD is the MVP right now, but Lebron has been a better player than Kobe since 2008. He even put up better numbers than Kobe against the same common opponents in the playoffs ( vs. 08 Celtics, 09 Magic, and 10 Celtics), but he played with Mo Williams and Varejao while Kobe played with Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum, and Ron Artest.
Who cares? Durant will be rank higher than Kobe. Lebron already surpassed him last June. And if he wins his 3rd straight Finals MVP this is no longer a worthy comparison.
