Who has one?

I've considered buying one in the 8-9 mint condition range.

Who thinks they have long-term value? If Jordan was to pass away, would that skyrocket it's value?

Anyways, I was a big collector of cards in the early 90's when the basketball card craze hit big. Now the value has somewhat disappeared except for the rare few.

I have a "Rare Air" Jordan set in Mint condition, but I look on ebay and it's like worth $15 dollars :oldlol: Was surprised to find that they were worth fck all recently.

How rare or difficult it is to get your hands on merchandise is what drives the price up. Ebay has killed the card market because you can always find the cards available for sale (A Shaq Fleer Ultra Rookie was once worth $12, now you can get 1 for under $2 on Ebay). At this point, all remaining Jordan rookies are preserved pretty well by collectors, so even his death won't drive up the prices besides momentarily as people scavenge ebay deciding to finally buy one after a lifetime of considering getting one.

Michael Jordan rookie card is gold. If you get 9+ or even 10, it's very rare.

The card collecting game is forever done and gone but a MJ rookie card is not affected. It's one of these rare occasion and card of the greatest basketball player.

Get it if you can.

I've got one, really don't collect NBA cards, but my uncle game me some of his before he moved on. I use some of them as coasters on NBA night at my house. One day, I ran out of toilet paper and I needed something to wipe with.....

I've fukced up every card except that one Jordan card. Probably just gonna rip it up since you want it.

I have an insane amount of football, basketball and baseball cards from my youth. Boxes and boxes and boxes... used to go to all the card shows as a kid and all that good stuff.

And, you're right... looking at the value of my most prized pieces these days usually leaves me feeling empty inside. I thought I was making such a valuable investment in the future. Turned out I was really just wasting money.

I've got all Jordan cards beginning with the '88 Fleer. Always wanted to get my hands on his RC, but didn't have the coin for it back then and I don't trust the sports card market enough anymore to delve back in with a big purchase.

Even my really old stuff, like the '68 Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron's 3rd year card, Ozzie Smith RC, etc... that stuff isn't even worth much.

WTF?

Wish I would have invested in some lebron rookie cards. They're going to be worth a lot once he 4 peats.

I think the values will start going up again once more and more people start dumping their old collections seeing that they're not really worth that much, but that could take a considerable amount of time. A lot of the sets from the '80s and '90s were waaay overproduced. Key cards like a Jordan rookie will always hold value, though. Also, I don't think that was one of the way overproduced sets.

I think people are afraid to trash their cards because of what happened in the past. They may sell their collections, but not destroy.

I used to have nba cards in the mid 90's and one of my collections are rookie cards of players from the batch of Mourning to Duncan. I thought in 50 years the prices of these cards would jack up. :(

Sad that I have cards that are almost 45 years old and they may be worth $1-10 at most.

Well, I actually bought packs back in the day. I have most of the 84 and 85 Star set, including the Jordan cards and the Topps original. I don't have the Fleer (so-called rookie gimmick, despite being two seasons late).

Counterfeiters are getting really good at fooling the best certifiers and graders, so I would be careful buying anything now.

the star 84-85 XRC is more scarce as opposed to the fleer 86-87..I'm guessing u wanting to buy the fleer version .those have been my "holy grails" as well.the plain fleer jordan RC is relatively cheap, but harder to buy because there are so many counterfeits and condition wise is hard to gauge when dealers have them in hard plastics .
best thing to do if u are very serious bout wantin to add one to ur collection is buy one graded , and get them already graded by BGS especially if u trying to maximize value for your card.if just for the hobby and love of collecting get a psa 9 version , still valuable but u rest assured u are getting a real authentic card and graded at a mint 9 as opposes to a gem mint which will be 2x as much..

I owned the Fleer Jordan rookie and sold it to buy my first car

Never owned the Star ones though...those were the big $$$ cards

while cards in general may not have been a great investment, the high end cards have been...Gretzky bought the Wagner cards for $400k and that thing's value is in the millions now

MJ rookie is a classic, and will always hold value. Its the mid tier inserts that lost all value. 90's saturated the market. Only the rarest and high end cards hold real long term value.

Did you happen to see the story about that guy in Defiance, Ohio, that was cleaning out a relative's home last year when he stumbled upon a container under a bunch of boxes in his attic?

Apparently, his great-great grandfather owned a tobacco store in the town and, when baseball cards were in their infancy in the early 1900s, they were distributed in cigarette packs and match boxes (which explains their small size compared to today's cards).

Anyway, this guy stumbled onto stacks of cards dating back to 1910. He has several complete sets, which include several Wagners. And, they are said to be in mint or near mint condition.

Collectors are calling it the greatest find in the history of card collecting. The sets are said to be worth many millions.

Some random dude in Defiance... :oldlol:

Experts say that any sports memorabilia found from this point forward will be compared back to the attic find.

My mouth was literally watering looking at those sets of cards.

There was also a really cool 30 for 30 done on the most perfect Wagner card ever found.

It's centreing is a bit off, but otherwise a very good card

What grade is it at? 8?

I'm petrified to buy a counterfeit. Laying out hundreds if not thousands for a basketball card, I would want to be 100% sure it's not a fake.

Man, would I be pissed to find a fake in the mail.

And then you have all the fakes thrown on Ebay, which kills the scarcity of rare cards too...

I'm just going to have to hold onto them another 50 years and hope for the best.

As for J0rdan's rookie card, think i might consider the 84-85 XRC card and not the often counterfeited Fleer 86-87 version.

Pardon my ignorance but what is grade? I collect cards back in the day but this is the first time I've heard of the grading system

Just to have it or are you going to flip it?

Everything has a price.

If someone offered me the price of a house for the basketball card one day, I'd be selling the card quicksmart.

I'd like to keep it for a longtime, then maybe pass it down to my kids or sell it for retirement..

Think it measures the centreing, condition of the card(corners, top, back etc).

So if the centreing, condition of the card is near perfect it will likely get a grading of between 9 and 10.
