Put together a team of current players that would win a championship playing D'Antoni's style of basketball that would have a legit shot at winning a championship.

I'm thinking something like...

C: Blake Griffin
PF: Melo
SF: Jeff Green
SG: Jamal Crawford
PG: CP3

@Myth,
I see your bolded words, and raise you about 10 more words. Gotta include that second "championship".

This had potential to be a good topic but OP didn't make rules. You need to set it so it's like you get 1 allstar, 1 guy getting the vet min, one defensive guy, etc

D'Antoni's teams are usually horrible playing defense. But the lineup I came up with has great offense. Griffin, Melo, Green, CP3, Crawford... they'd score 100+ PPG. CP3 would be averaging 10+ APG.

I'm not gonna just stack the deck and pick all offensive juggernaut kind of guys. I'm gonna pick a blend of shooting, athletic ability, rebounding and defense:

PG- Curry
SG- Klay
SF- Deng
PF- Love
C- Noah

Picking 4 players averaging between 18.7ppg and 25.0ppg isn't stacking the deck offensively?

The year of the suspensions the Suns were owning the Spurs. That was peak Suns.

Lin has to be in there.
he would average 20/10 with his improved skillset EASILY right now under Toni. i hope the Lakers just didnt trade for him because of their tank job and get him next season

It wasn't like Amare sat out the deciding game. Excluding that game, Suns were still down 3-2 to the Spurs.

I said ALL OFFENSIVE JUGGERNAUT KIND OF GUYS! Noah and Deng aren't number one option kind of guys. Love along with Dirk is the premier stretch PF in the L. And Love is one of the top 3-4 rebounders in the L. So he can spread the floor for the team AND rebound at the highest clip. Get your comprehension skills up before u come at me! I could have picked:

Curry
Kobe
Durant
Melo
Love

That's a team that features ALL great scorers. My team doesn't COME CLOSE to that kind of scoring across the board!!

Once again, Deng has NEVER been a great scorer! I SAID ALL OFFENSIVE JUGGERNAUT OR GREAT SCORERS. Only three of my guys qualify for being a great scorer. I could have picked:

Irving
Harden
George
Bron
Dirk

25.0 (4th in the league)
23.5 (7th in the league)
19.1
18.7
11.7

Those are the scoring averages of your team. They combine to average 98ppg.

Nobody was accusing you of picking the absolute best scorers, but you obviously went with some offensive juggernaut type guys with 3 of your 5 starters being the go-to scorer for their teams this season. Only Noah is not known for being a very strong offensive player.

I guess we need to have set definitions for great scorers, because Deng just averaged 19ppg for the Bulls before the trade.

Once again I said ALL OFFENSIVE JUGGERNAUT KIND OF GUYS! If u know bball, u know Deng doesn't qualify as a great scorer or alpha dog kind of guy. At best he's a very good scorer. If u know bball, u SHOULD know Deng isn't an alpha dog. He's an All-Star SF who's versatile, a very good scorer, and great defender.

When I think PERFECT D'Antoni team, i think a minimum of three guys who stroke that long ball very good to great. But u also need defense and rebounding too. Love is the perfect stretch PF to me because he's also a beast rebounder. Noah is very athletic, can run the floor, and a great defender. Many of Mike's teams lacked the defense and rebounding to really put them over the top. So for my PERFECT style D'Antoni team, i gotta sacrifice some of the pretty shit for some grit mixed with skill. Love, Deng, and Noah give me that. And u got Step,Klay, and Love to stretch the floor too.

Wait, could you capitalize "all offensive juggernaut kind of guys!" for me 1 more time?

My point is you are still stacking your team with shitloads of offense. 98.0 for a starting line-up is a ridiculous amount of offense.

Well i told u what the hell I meant! I'm talking putting five alpha dogs out there for my lineup. Deng and Noah ARE NOWHERE NEAR ALPHA DOG KIND OF GUYS! That's what the hell I mean!! If u think Deng is an alpha dog or great scorer, u r slow as hell when it comes to bball for real!

Of course I got a team that can score! That's the point of a M D'Antoni team. But I could have really stacked the deck:

PG- Curry
SG- Harden
SF- Durant
PF- Aldridge
C- Love

That's really stacking the deck!! My original team with Curry, Klay, Deng, Love, and Noah is nowhere near as stacked as that team. Damn u r slow bro!! I said I wouldn't pick ALL OFFENSIVE JUGGERNAUTS OR ALPHA DOGS!! 3 out of 5 guys isnt all of my lineup SHIT!!

Joakim Noah/Taj Gibson
Carmelo Anthony/Dante Cunningham
Andre Iguodala/Wes Matthews
Martell Webster/Jason Terry/
Chris Paul/Jose Calderon/Jarrett Jack

I tried making a reasonably believable team. This team CAN be put together.
Reason I chose Joakim at Center is because he is one if not THE most most mobile Centers in the NBA. This guy can run up and down the court and would be perfect with Chris Paul.

Carmelo Anthony at PF, he has the size, and he is a great rebounder. There will be a lot of fast breaks with Melo at PF.

Andre Iguodala is an athletic guy who will bring much needed defense to this team.

Martell Webster is a guy who can keep up with the rest of the team and is money from 3 point range.

Chris Paul - Nuff' Said.

Then shooters off the bench with Taj Gibson in there to bring some defense.

all he really wants are 3 or 4 shooters including a pg who can penetrate and a big that can be effective in the pick and roll. defense is an afterthought.
