View Full Version : Inspired by Durant... what are the best stat lines over a span of 10 games ever?

tmacattack33
01-24-2014, 01:03 PM
In Duran't 10 game span that we just saw, he averaged these numbers:

38.3 ppg on 51.7% FG, 6.1 assists, 5.8 rebounds

To do this: Go to basketball-reference.com and view the game logs for your favorite player. You can click one game and then click on another game 10 games down and the site automatically calculates the average stats over those games.

If everyone does this for their favorite player, we can compile a pretty thorough list here.

I'll update this opening post with the best stat lines for each star player in a day or two.

Pauk or any other Lebron fan, you can try to beat this, but this is the best I've found so far for my favorite player Lebron...

Lebron:

(Feb 13 to March 5 of 2008): 33.2 ppg on 51.1% FG, 9.0 assists, and 8.9 rebounds

We have to stick to one number, otherwise it's unfair to a player who had an amazing 12 games but then his 13th wasn't good.

So let's stick to 10, a nice and even number.

Old post of mine about Nique...someone could look up the stretches for 10 games if they wish:

He scored 32, 33, and 39ppg the last 3 months of one season. 39 was a short month yes but in a full month 2 years later in 1988...he scored 38ppg. 33/7 over the last 40 games. He put up 34/7/4 in March of 93. Nique was a fantastic scorer.

Just disgusting at times. He was scoring 29 a game at 34 years old on the Clippers.

Few games from a 20 game stretch he had:

49/12vs Philly, then 4 days later 45/7 vs the Bullets, 3 days later he had 51/6, then 38, 35, and 43 in 3 straight games. he had an off night with 32/8 in a win vs the Pacers then bounced back with 47/7 and 50/5 in back to back games vs Drexlers blazers and the Badboy pistons. He was then at 35 or more in 4 of the next 7 including back to back 40 point games that were both wins(Suns and Knicks).

Since there's an ignorant thread with Bird vs Durant, some Bird's 10-game stretches:

1986, in February (McHale was injured around that time):
28.3 ppg, 13.4 rpg, 9.3 apg on .599 TS% (6 triple-doubles  )

In the 1984 Playoffs he had a 10 game stretch putting up 31 ppg on over .650 TS%, ****ing crazy.

In 1988, late January/early February:
34.2 ppg, 12.6 rpg, 6.0 apg, 1.5 spg, 1.4 bpg, on .529, .400, .929

In the last 10 games of his last regular season, at 35 with career ending injuries, as a shell, put up 19.9/10.1/8.6, that's almost a triple-double.

If he was playing today, some stans would get their heads blown by his runs/stats/plays. Can we please stop with bullshit overreactions? (even though KD's been playing amazing basketball)

Odinn posted this too:

Just imagine ISH in 1991-92 season. After Bird's near 50 points triple-double game(49/14/12/4/1);
Bird da GOAT, even he's not the same after the injury and see what he's capable of!!

Or imagine the end of 1986-87 season, last 16 games; Bird 33.3/9.1/9.0/2.0/1.1 on .569/.390/.935.

Also there is a span which he averaged 34.2/9.4/6.3/1.6/0.6 on .599/.644/.888 in 12 consecutive games in 1985-86 season.

I posted those numbers because I do not see the point of comparing a retired goat level player and a young player which is having a sick run due to that run.

---

Durant has been amazing since Westbrook went down. He's a 38.1/5.9/6.0/1.7/0.7 guy on .520/.394/.882 in his last 12 games. Although it's a crazy span, there is no point of this comparison. Larry Bird is just straight up the better player.

It was good for Wilt. This is when he's shooting 10-20+ FTs a game. I was just noting that his assists were pretty low, but his FT shooting was good by his standards.

Anyway, the most impressive thing is that he's shooting over 50% on a season where he averaged 40 shots a game, in a faster paced, less efficient era. I challenge you to name one other player who could do that. That season, Baylor had 33 FGA, and his FG% was right under 43. And before you guys say Shaq, yeah right. Like he could keep up with that pace playing 48 minutes a game.

Lebron:

Yea, that and stuff like...

February 2009:

May 2009: (Playoffs)

Chamberlain's "streaks" are too numerous to list...

but this came from another topic...

Wilt in his 67-68 season...

NINE straight TRIPLE-DOUBLES (and who knows how many QUADS had they officially recorded blocked shots)...

and in those nine straight games...

26.7 ppg, 23.7 rpg, 12.2 apg, and on a .710 FG% (missing known FGA for the last game of that streak.)

BTW, in the last seven games of that streak...

28.4 ppg, 24.1 rpg, 12.9 apg, and a .726 FG% (again, missing FGAs in the last game.)

Oh, and in the three games before his nine straight triple-doubles...31-21-15, 22-19-13, and 38-28-9...on a combined .655 FG%...

so he was ONE ASSIST away from TWELVE STRAIGHT Triple-Doubles...and in which he averaged a combined ...

27.6 ppg, 23.4 rpg, 12.3 apg, and on a .694 FG% (with one game missing.)

Put Lebron in Wilts era and his avg would look like this:

40/15/15 on 60% FG

and that's an understatement.

Put Wilt on Lebrons PED program.

100/100/100 99% FG

and that's an understatement.

Get back to us when Lebron goes 24/24/8 on 68.3%.

I hear he's around 58%. Not bad.

Lebron have surpassed Kobe and his next target is Magic. Does that bring tears to your eyes.

Nope. The rebound in question happened at 39.3 seconds left in the 4th, which isn't shown in the video you linked. Any others?

Almost all aspect of the game except rings (which he will get more of soon). Same amount of FMVPs at 2, WAYYYY more MVPs at 4, better stats, and more memorable playoff moments like the Pistons 4th quarter and the headband game.

Wilt played in an era where Lebron could've avg 60ppg playing against skinny white guys.

Wilt wouldn't even be MVP in today's league.

All-time draft, Wilt getting picked ahead of Lebron 100/100 times.

That's the same highlight reel. It jumps from 50 seconds to 22 seconds.

I don't have a horse in this race. I just trust NBA statisticians and my own eyes more than words, and I've yet to see a video posted of the rebound in question. If it happened, there should be video of it. It was 2009, not 1909.
