He's not, KAJ has a legitimate GOAT case. Kobe is just a Michael Jordan wannabe

LOL no. Just no. I am a Kobe fan but Kareem was just too good.

It's funny Kobe is probably the 2nd best Laker behind magic, but he's the 5th best player to play for the franchise behind Kareem, magic, Shaq and wilt

Bandito
01-25-2014, 03:46 AM
Watching Kareem's stat he didn't missed a lot of games at all. And he played until he was 41. He only has 2 season where he played 60 + games, most of the season he played 76+ games. Respect:rockon:

Also that 7 of the top 15 GOATs have worn purple and gold.

Kobe is the greatest Laker ever. Jerry West, Magic Johnson, Shaq, etc have ALL said as much.

Kobe is greater than Kareem because Kareem played with 2 players who are on many people's Top 10 All Time lists (Magic and Oscar Robertson), while Kobe only played with one guy in the Top 10 (Shaq).

Not to mention that despite Kareem's 6 rings he only has 2 finals MVPs to show for them.

So are all of you who hold the fact that Kobe "only" has 2 Finals MVPs to go with his 5 rings going to be consistent and use the same argument to downgrade Kareem's greatness or are you going to be hypocrites?

I think they are pretty close, but Kareem has the edge with his accolades and GOAT longetivity. If Kobe can play until he's 40 and do it as well as Kareem did while winning another title or 2, he could pass him all-time. Right now Kareem is the better all-time player.

as far as all time

kareem is arguable goat

but his best days were in Milwaukee

as a laker kareem however did accomplish allot. but not quite as much as kobe

career laker average = 22ppg, 9reb

prime gasol numbers ,,, meh

good .. not great

( and thats his average with him jumping right into it during his prime after his 6th season )

im6agine starting kobes career laker average after year 6?

28ppg,6reb,5ast per game 2003-2014

There is no need trying to convince anyone. Kareem will always be among the top greatest players in the NBA. As a Kobe fan, I believe Kobe is cool with bbeing among the four or Five greatest Lakers of all-time; Kareem, Magic, Shaq, West, Kobe

Kobe also has 5 rings. But he holds more franchise records than anyone that has ever put on a Lakers jersey.

All time, I believe Kareem is higher.

Longevity for a big. More accolades from college and the pros. Etc.

I mean the guy was amazing.

Kareem is a legit GOAT candidate. Him, Magic, Shaq and Wilt are almost all inarguably higher than Kobe on the GOAT list.

Kobe IS the greatest Laker, though. Longevity and team records etc. matter a lot for team legacy.

But Kobe's 1a/1b greatest laker with Magic of all-time

I can't remember any single person who came in a message board with a set opinion and the discussion managed to change his mind. I may have encountered one such person or two, but I can't remember either.
A "convince me otherwise" thread is nothing better than a lost battle for everyone accepting the challenge, regardless of the validity of the arguments.

This is not a "Kobe > Kareem" implication.

Kobe's been a Laker half his life (18 years to Magic's what, 12?), has the same amount of titles and a s.hitton of records. Jerry West, Magic himself, KAJ and even Shaq have called Kobe the GOAT Laker.

Magic may hold just as many team records as Kobe and more among them are NBA records as well (career APG, playoff TD's, playoff assists, playoff APG, assists in a playoff game). It's just the fact that scoring records are more scrutinized which gives the impression that Kobe may hold more records.

Longevity may establish bigger emotional bonding with a team's fans, but, if you consider it that important for achieving greatness, why keep it (longevity) only team-oriented and not league-oriented? Not to mention that Magic's charisma was enough to compensate with his early retirement.

Magic holds 3 Laker records, assists, assist percentage and assists per game

Kobe has these

Games played
Minutes
Field goals made
3 pt field goals made
Free throws made
Steals
Points
Win shares

he's also
2nd in offensive win shares (1 WS behind West, so this will be his soon enough) second in defensive win shares (8 behind Kareem)
3rd in rebounds behind Baylor and Kareem
3rd in assists behind Magic and West

Magic also made it to the Finals in 75% of his seasons. Kobe...not even close to 50%. And the reality is/was, Magic was a FAR greater player in his Finals, than Kobe was in his.

Magic had much much more loaded teams in a very weak western conference, the Lakers had no excuse not to make the finals back then... get outta here with that BS, its not even comparable

Magic's great and all that, my favorite Laker ever (and I did watch him play to nip that coming reply in the bud) But let's not pretend the deck wasn't stacked in his favor on multiple levels.. from a non existent CBA that allowed Buss to out spend nearly every other team in the league by double the amount creating a roster that could have won in any era... Magic had the keys to a team very few players could ever dream of...

And they could win clinching game six in his Finals, while his next best teammates was watching the game from his couch. Or the fact that after KAJ retired, he then carried a rapidly declining roster to records of 63-19 (which was LA's second best record in the Magic's career), and 58-24, and yet another trip to the Finals. Oh, and please post Kobe's clinching Finals games in which he, without his best teammate, put up a 42 point, 14-23 FG/FGA, 14-14 FT/FTA, 15 rebound (by FAR the best rebounder on the floor), 7 assist game, and in which he played every position in doing so? Or Kobe's 26 ppg, 8 rpg, 13 apg, .541 FG%, .960 FT% Finals, in which he was overwhelmingly the best player on the floor (on a court filled with HOFers)?

C'mon...Magic was simply the greatest Laker, and by a huge margin.
