I have someone working for me that is doing an abysmal job. Worst in the company by far. So far I've avoided awkward confrontation by just fixing her mistakes myself... but now it's at the point where I need to seriously intervene and get this girl to do better. Or she'll be fired.
wont be an easy talk. or a short one. nervous. im a really ballsy guy that loves trolling people, but i hate this type of confrontation.
:biggums:
It's only a confrontation if you think of it that way.
You're her boss/manager and it's your job to right the ship..

There should be a process before firing. First step, verbal counseling about specific fcuk ups. She has to be given a chance to improve. A union representative should be present. There should be some kind of employee assistance counselors or section available too. The manager/boss needs to come up with specific things that need to be done by the employee to map the road of improvement in her job, e.g. methods, goals, deadlines, training, etc. Failing in the improvement plan can be grounds for a formal write-up that goes in the employee's record at least temporarily. Again, the employee should be given the opportunity to improve and to continue on the improvement plan and have it erased from record if successful. If not, a 2nd write-up may be warranted. This would be written, documented evidence and history that the employee is not performing the duties in her job, and can begin to justify a firing.
I still would lean on giving the employee every chance and be kind towards her, providing help and incentives to improve along the way. You might just gain the best and most loyal employee in the company just with a little bit of personal investment like that.

Well, a person can't improve if they don't know what they're doing wrong. Just be honest and try to be encouraging.
