Some players don't live up to their nicknames. Some players do.

What are some of your favorite nicknames in NBA history? Explain how does it fit the player?

Criteria:

1. Should fit the player's game and personality.

mine:

- Air Jordan / His Airness - MJ's air acrobatics and highlight reel finishes. His Airness is almost simililar to His Highness. The GOAT. True King of Basketball.

- The Dream - Hakeem's dream shake will make you feel like it's just a dream.

- Larry Legend - Because Larry Bird really is a Legend.

- Magic - Earvin Magic Johnson's showtime passes feels like he's doing magic tricks.

- The Reign Man - Everytime Shawn Kemp plays, expect some highlight reel dunks raining everywhere. He's like reigning over everyone everytime he dunks.

- Black Mamba - Kobe Bryant plays like a snake always ready to strike. Cold blooded scorer.

- Slim Reaper - Fits KD really well because of his lanky frame and being a cold blooded scoring machine.

Magic - you explained
Admiral David Robinson - was in the Navy and was very professional
Bad Porn Corey Maggette - plenty of scoring and penetration, but do you really like what you're seeing?

Jordan hates snakes (He admitted it in a book) and it's no coincidence Kobe chose " black mamba" as his moniker.

Kobe has this strange obsession with MJ. He steals his moves and his mannerisms but will say Magic and Mike D'Antoni are his idols (kobe chose #8 because it was MDA's #).

Kobe chose 24 and 10 (Olympic #) to get that "one up" on MJ.

King James is probably the most fitting, he's like Richard III. Loved by some, hated by far more. Born into royalty(generational body/athleticism)He was given everything, he didn't earn it. He did whatever he could, betraying all of those close(Cleveland) in order to "earn" his crown(championship). Postulated as if he was humble, when in actuality he was pretentious and power hungry. Eventually overthrown when he least expected it(at the top of his reign) by his closest companions who would go on to rule for a generation(Durant) that worked his way to the top from the bottom for the better of his people(fans of the NBA).

King James doesn't fit Bron, but after your explanation I can see now why he's called King James. :applause:

I like some of the Chinese nicknames for NBA players. Apparently Melo is "Sweet Melon", Derek Fisher is "Little Fish" and Duncan is "Stone Buddha", which is amazing (though The Big Fundamental and Death and Taxes also suit him well.)

I've read somewhere that Kobe wear #8 because of his number at the ABCD adidas camp.

If I remember correctly, his abcd number was something like 143. He added the digits which equal to 8. But Kobe wears #8 for that reason & also MDA's #. For those 2 reasons is why Kobe wore 8.

Magic is my favorite. It replaced his real name lol. The Doctor is my second favorite.

I really like The Captain/Cap nickname for Kareem as well.

And I like Tim Duncan's nickname of The Big Fundamental.

There are others that ppl already mentioned. I can't really think of anything else. Maybe Grandma, lol. But I didn't understood or like the nickname.
