still a beast?

He looked pretty decent out there today. Considering this is what, like his 4th game, in 4 years he looked excellent. Still got that innate athleticism. Seems to not have lost his timing and touch. If he can keep progressing and can put up 20 minutes a game the Heat could crush it out in the playoffs. Had a few shots he almost blocked. A few more games and he might be a force.

Inb4 he drops a 18,10,5 block game and everyone is

Gotta laugh at all the idiots on here who wrote off any possibility that he could be a valuable contributor to the Heat.

Even Popovich was impressed,

If he can get his condition up to playing 10-20 minutes a game, he would be a very big piece for Miami. The man is still young and athletic, if he can keep himself from getting injured he could return to full form in a couple of years. I wish him the best.

He's never reaching 20 minutes a game with the HEAT. 10-15 at the most.

20 mins is asking a lot from him. He only needs to play 10-15 mins per game (against the Pacers especially).

Won't mean a thing if Wade doesn't play like a true star in the playoffs.. If he does plus Oden giving them something yeah watch out.

Considering he just played 13 minutes yesterday there is a chance he can especially as conditioning keeps improving and they see knee is holding up however i doubt that happens til pacer series he might get a few 15 minute games in regular season as its warranted but heat wont make it a habit so they can try and preserve him if possible.

If he plays 20 minutes he's just about fouled out... 11 some-odd fouls per 36 screams liability.

Honestly, 20 minutes per game is nothing. If he can't do that then his body really can't handle being out there. There is no difference between 12 minutes and 20 minutes. Any smart coach would give him tons of time off between games and make him take it really easy (just walk/do non contact conditioning) during any sort of practice.

If I was HEAT's coach I wouldn't play Oden for more than 15 minutes and in back to back games in order to preserve him for the post season. I remember how Portland treated Sabonis (another talanted player with injury history) in his rookey season and limited his time to 22-23 minutes per game.

This game is the third time I've watched him this season and his conditioning looks fine. Oden clearly wasn't out of shape coming into the season but it was a matter of getting him up to game speed after so much time off and obviously making sure the knee holds. His biggest obstacle right now as far as I see it is getting his timing right. They're not worried about his foul rate because he's never going to play more than about 20 minutes in any single game but you can see that even though he knows what to do on defensive rotations and on pick and rolls, he's just a half step slow between his recognition and reaction time (this was his biggest problem as a rookie too). So hopefully as gets more accustomed to playing, he'll be able to trust his reaction a bit more.

Just his sheer size and strength make him beastly and a valuable asset to the Heat. Plus he's skilled and looks to still have his defensive timing and shot blocking ability. Just a question of his fragile body holding up and his stamina, which should improve with conditioning.

I think what the coaching staff is doing is smart- get his feet wet again instead of having him jump off the diving board and into the deep end immediately. Get his minutes up little by little and by the end of the season he'll be at 15-20, and that's what they'll need from him if they see the Pacers again.

The Pacers are going to need a lot of toilet paper to clean up he massive dump Oden is going to take on their city and team.

He'd get ejected and taken out by security as soon as he takes off his shorts. Besides, how is that even plausible? Are the Pacers just going to sit down on the court and let him lay turds on their faces one by one?

Sorry, but your statement is flawed on multiple levels.

Miami should limit his minutes to max 15 in the regular season and the first two rounds of the playoffs. His sole purpose is to give Miami some solid minutes against Hibbert in the ECF, so Bosh doesn't get destroyed again. Everything else is besides the point.

That's exactly what we need from him. 10-15 minutes is enough to make a huge impact against Indiana

The Heat training staff and Greg himself stuck with the plan as far of the strength and conditioning goals were concerned, and now they're reaping the benefits.

No one ever said he couldn't contribute. What EVERYONE is wondering is can the man stay healthy for a span of time, which given his awful history....how is everyone full of doubt an idiot?

Nothing absurd when it comes to Greg Oden and injuries. I fail to see how what you said is the same as what he said. The two are not remotely the same. So your point really failed.

Yeah man, what kind of idiot would doubt a guy who hasn't stepped foot on a basketball court in 4 years and had played a whopping 82 games in four seasons prior to that?

Not to mention his injuries weren't just tiny injuries but flat our multiple devastating knee injuries.

Greg Oden has "looked good" for more than one season before.
