Too bad Durant already surpassed him.

Anyway, we need to see how he does in the playoffs first.

Do you think those will be Durant season averages. I highly doubt it especially when Westbrook comes back.

Kobe had the higher peak in my opinion, but Durant is quickly closing the gap. I really want to see what Durant does in the playoffs this year.

kobe bryant

2003/february = 40.6ppg, 4.9rpg, 3.6apg
2006/january = 43.4ppg, 5.6rpg, 4.1apg
2006/april = 41.6ppg, 5.5rpg, 3.6apg
2007/march = 40.4ppg, 6.2rpg, 4.5apg

i left out like 4-5 months where kobe had a pethetic 34-36ppg average like durant

Kobe averaged 43.4 points in January 2006 including four 40 point games, two 50 point games and 81 point game.

I like durant as much as the next guy but Jesus you guys are overrating him

43.4 ppg 5.6 rpg 4.1 apg 61.1 TS% 122 ORTG
vs
36.8 ppg 6.4 rpg 6.2 apg 67.7 TS% 130 ORTG

But ya, it's really cool Kobe averaged 6.6 more ppg on 8 more FGA and 1 more FTA. Nice efficiency.

Hello again my brethren at InsideHoops!

I must admit, Kevin Durant is a remarkable player, and he is having a fine month of January 2014. I see he is taking 21.8 shots per game, which takes quite a bit of arm strength and stamina-- certainly better than any non-injured player in the league right now.

However, just to put this into perspective, the great Kobe Bryant took 27.2 shots per game FOR THE WHOLE SEASON of 2006. Does this not make Durant look like a child in comparison? Why, in November alone Kobe took a mind-boggling 29.4 shots per game (at a very respectable 42% FG); almost 8 full attempts more than Durant is doing in this, his best month ever!

So while we may praise Durant, let us not disrespect the legend Kobe Bryant, at least not while he is still very most alive.

Warmest regards,

Ayotunde Ndiaye

Kobe averaged 35 ppg when he averages 27.2 shots per game. Durant's averaging 37 ppg on 21.8 shots per game since Westbrook went down

With all due respect Joyner28reload,

If Kevin Durant is so much more effective with the ball, he should be taking more shots, no? But he cannot, because he does not have the strength or stamina of a Kobe Bryant. Your analysis is simplistic because you don't realize that almost all of the so-called "misses" Kobe has are really just ways to involve his teammates in the game through offensive rebounds and disguised passes. This helps on the scoreboard and for building team morale.

But Durant is young and perhaps if he does some push-ups and calisthenics he will one day acquire the physical and mental faculties to become a great chucker like Kobe.

Warmest regards,

Ayotunde Ndiaye

Anyway, to answer your question. I was kind of surprised to see he falls at 31 currently in my ranking system, but by the time this season is over he will be around the 25 spot for me, already. Pretty insane.

At the end of the season he'll probably have this resume:
MVP, 2nd in MVP voting 3 times, 5th in voting once
5 All-NBA 1st team selections

Edit: Misread your question

It has to be top 10. I remember reading about the Iceman scoring 600 points for the month of January. We all saw Kobe go on a 40-50 point a night run for what seemed like forever. So KD is doing some serious work scoring points like crazy for the month.

Kobe probably wishes he could've protected his fg% by getting those weak ass calls KD gets.

No you have got your years all messed up. The year he missed the playoffs was the previous year. This was the year where he intentionally lost game 7 against the Suns.
