View Full Version : What's the lowest your team or franchise's ever gone?

What's been the lowest point of your team or franchise? How? Why? What were the circumstances? Player altercations? Bad coach? Was it the GM making a fool of himself? Lets share our stories. Lettuce discuss the trials and tribulations that come with being a die hard fan.

In my case, the Lakers. my oh my. I could not believe what I was seeing. The city of L.A was begging a player to stay, it's supposed to be the other way around. You don't get to choose what team you play for. We get to choose whether we want you as a Laker or not.

I was really upset at my team and the fans, could not believe our city had gone so low. Overall it was just an unpleasant experience and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone, not even the Boston Celtics who we hate.

What's been the lowest point for your franchise? Discuss.

I think once a certain someone retires it will change. It isn't choosing to play for the Lakers, it is choosing to play with Kobe. That team is in purgatory right now.

Have you seen the Cavaliers the last 3 years? I know we had some bad records before LeBron came, but this feels worse because of the talent we have that's being wasted right now.

McHale had a complete post game why wouldn't he try and teach Dwight a thing or two? Either McHale is lazy and don't give a f*ck or Dwight don't want to listen to shit.

The last year of Carter, and right after him (Jalen Rose and Mike James took turns being our best players) which ultimately culminated in drafting Bargnani number 1 overall.

After Bosh left wasn't great either, but at least we had DeRozan and drafted Valanciunas the year right after, so did make better decisions post losing our best player. Not to mention it didn't last as long as the post Carter struggle.

not even close to the shawn kemp era cavs.... not even close.

I think Cleveland forgot the cavs existed during the mid to late nineties. You can point out records and what not but at least these past few years the cavs have still had a lot more fan support despite their record. They were tanking anyways. I wasn't disppointed with the last few seasons but this one is a huge let down.

Not counting earlier years. Lowest point for Raps was probably when Carter left, which led to the drafting of Bargnani, which to Colangelo trading for Gay and giving Bargnani an extension and everything Colangelo did.

Colangelo>Babcock. At least Colangelo's Euro influx brought us to the playoffs a couple times. Babcock was terrible. He's the one that put us in such a bad hole that we got the 1st pick overall.

Bucks trading on draft day DIRK

But that is the perfect example of teams , trading as well as draft picks ...
Some players work out and some don't.
Average draft pick odd's of the player making a significant dent in the NBA is less than 20%.

Simple examples are Dirk , MJ , Barkley
--------------
Any case Dirk , was a new age PF that spread the defense... something back when Dirk was drafted was considered a no-no.
If the Bucks would of realized this thinking , he probably would of generated a chip again for Milwaukee as well as had his number retired with the likes of Kareem.

I guess no one really has a crystal ball.
Who was drafted after Dewit' Howard :confusedshrug:
Who might play longer in the NBA :confusedshrug:

Mavs: Not counting the abysmal 90s since I wasn't watching back then, the first round upset against GSW. 06 was a trauma because it looked like we had the title in the bag until the very end of game 3, but after 07 it became an existential crisis. There was a clear loss of confidence in the team's ability to win a championship - as if they were no longer being taken seriously - and the Mavs became associated with first round exits, underachieving, and choking, until 2011. (Optimism restarted around 2010, but the perception really only disappeared when they swept the Lakers.)

Another low...

19pts after that huge 1st half. We rely on the three ball too much seeing that we have no elite shooters on our team.

Such an obvious tank job. Everyone in the starting line up was "hurt" and their go to guy was Earl Barron. Although he did have a few big games.

Don't know if its the lowest, but Orlando drafting Fran Vasquez and him never coming to play wasn't too special.

Also taking back the contracts of Gilbert and Hedo.....oh and making Rashard Lewis one of the highest paid players.....

...in retrospect Otis Smith.

Hm... for the Houston Rockets, I'd probably say their entire existence has just been a low point. Forever stuck in mediocrity with their lone two rings being a charity gift resulting from Jordan's retirement.

Doesn't get much worse than that.

Our lowest point in recent memory was the "dark years" before the Pierce/Walker (blech) semi-movement and before the Big Three.

The lowest point before that was probably the period directly before Bird came on board, where the culture was so toxic Red Auerbach nearly went to work for the Knicks.

Hmmm... for a Minnesota franchise with (8) 60-loss seasons in 25 years. For a franchise with only 8 seasons with more than 33 wins... you'd think it would be difficult to choose only one low point. But it's not.

4/19/2006.

It was the last game of the season. The Wolves, in a battle for ping pong balls, really wanted to lose the game for that 0.05% or whatever extra chance to move up in the draft for the first time ever.

How desperate were they?

In a close home game vs. Memphis, Mark Madsen started shooting 3 pointers. Now, this is a guy who shot 17% on ONLY layups and dunks and 18% from the line in his final two NBA seasons. And he took SEVEN THREE POINTERS in the 4th quarter and OT of this game.

It worked. Madsen missed all 7. And shot 1 - 15 for the game. The Wolves lost in OT. The fans reward? The team didn't move up in the lottery, but were positioned for the 6th pick. It drafted Brandon Roy... then traded him for Randy Foye basically so the owner could pocket an additional $1M or so.

Off season od 1996 = signing Jim McIlvaine to that contract that pissed off Shawn kemp.

That was the beginning of the end for the Seattle sonics' winning ways.

Later ray Allen had a nice stint but was traded to the Celts just as Kevin Durant was drafted in 2007.

Then it was tank city. Sonics finished that season w/ fhe worst record in franchise history and get the 4th pick (Westbrook)

Okc owners did what they could to give the perception to everyone in Seattle and all of the NBA that Seattle was not a suitable city to host the sonics.

Lowest point of the lowest the sonics leaving Seattle for okc to become the thunder.:rant
