I thought he looked good.
Started off pretty average, reminds me of Austin Rivers first season.. plenty of talent but trying to hard to prove it.
When he relaxed and played within the flow of the game he was very effective.

The kid FINALLY gets to play and he plays well.
Cleveland needs to play him 31 minutes the rest of the year.
The kid is like Stella and he needs to get his groove back, but unfortunately he can't go down to the Caribbean and f*ck younger men so he needs to play hoops.
Cavs fans, this is the first year I am watching your team closely, and I gotta say, dat front office and dat coach??? hey-zeus H CHRIST! That's some disfunction right there YO!

Prediction: Thompson gets injured for a couple months then Bennett starts and makes a late push for ROY post all-star break.
Next year he wins MVP.
He peaks at 26.
Out of the league by 29.

I'm quite relieved tbh... it's discomforting seeing someone play THAT far below expectations. Not to mention, gotta keep that number 1 spot prestigious...

The kid actually has a nice looking jumper. He just needs a little confidence. Hopefully this is the first step toward it.
He still made some pretty big blunders, like flying at a guy shooting a three-pointer, resulting in three free throws when the game was still close.
But, it seemed like he got better and better as he was on the floor. Keep in mind his minutes were up tonight because Varejao was out.

In the summer league I still remember seeing him play a couple games, against orlando he looked dire for the first 3 quarters then went into beast mode in the 4th hitting every shot he looked at and throwing down explosive dunks. Really is an odd player, at the time I thought it looked almost like he didn't know he could play that good and thought maybe he was just a bit shook by the level he's at now. Taking his sweet ass time coming around though

Think that was preseason. And yea that game was insane, he hit like 3 straight 3 pointers and multiple post fadeaways.

He shot 38% from three as a freshman at UNLV, which is quite good for a 19-year-old power forward. The kid obviously has some skills. He's just a complete emotional wreck at this stage. You'll have that when every time you miss a shot to open your career, it's a national news story.
He's been through a really rough patch. It's going to take some time for him to get his confidence back.

first time this year bennett has gotten more than 10min of playing time. now back to the bench for the next 5 games. the minutes are more surprising than the production brown hates rookies.

Fatmamba is no longer fat.
This guy couldn't play extended minutes like this in the beginning of the season he was so out of shape.
He just needs to get that confidence back and there isn't any reason why he can't consistently put up numbers like this.
He showed some good defense at times too which is encouraging considering the type of defender he was in college.

I'm one of the few cavs fans that think that this team needs a defense first coach like brown, but even I admit, that IMO was his biggest mistake in his entire career.
Let's be real though; would KG still have lit up Hickson like he was lighting up Antawn? I don't know. The world will never know. But that wasn't the sole reason cavs lost that series.

yeah nobody wants to see such epic failure.
He's back down to his UNLV weight. He looks like he dropped a lot of baby fat.
So now Mike Brown realizes that he needs to play someone a lot of minutes in order for that someone to perform to his potential?!? Shocking.

While I don't necesarily agree with the Cavs picking him #1, he can still easily transform in to a legitimate contributor to their team. He possesses crazy potential, fantastic athleticism and an all around game (if he develops defensively). Calling him a bust this early on is ludicrous, I still believe he will be just fine and will turn in to a legitimate rotational player. Will he ever be a superstar? No, I highly doubt it, however he can be a perennial all star caliber player.

He really is man. Even worse at managing minutes. I remember we traded for Ramon Sessions, and he was really balling for us without following Mike's inept system and just freelanced and won us some games and got Kobe easy baskets, then he benches him in favor of Steve ****ing Blake(who sucked in that system, badly) and we go downhill from there, then he forces Ramon to play in his Kobe ISO offense and turns him into a spot up shooter, Lakers end up a 2nd round exit.
I bet Bennett could average 10+ ppg 5+ rpg in the MDA system.

How many forwards in the league have shoulders as broad as his though. He also seems to have a short (and fat) neck. Kinda like a thicker, fatter Shawn Marion.

Most Cavs fans have been saying this; he has talent. A lot. Giving him the Kwame label is way, way too early. His NBA career is only six months old, you can't be a bust or a great pick in such short time. Give him two years, at least. He'll be fine.

That was the other way around, Sessions started off the bench and Lakers did well because he provided a punch for the second group instead of looking at Kobe and Pau taking most of the possesions. It was when Brown moved Sessions to the starting 5 because of public pressure that Sessions started doing worse.

Didn't do much in the Playoffs, but what could he do when in Mike's system Kobe always had the ball and took 23+ shots a game? I'm not trying to down Kobe here, but he had enough guys around him to defer to in 2012. We had a solid roster to actually beat OKC, but Blake missed a wide open corner 3 to win the game and we blew one on our home floor with a Pau turnover that led to a KD deep 3 to take the lead late in the 4th.
Anyways, we gave up Sessions because we weren't willing to pay a young PG 5 mil a year, instead we got Steve Nash for 9 mil a year and 3 draft picks, fricken amazing move by the FO.

Actually, he started off the bench, but Mike sometimes started him and then benched him again, he never was a starter on a regular basis until like the last 10-15 games of the season.

and that's the shit that pisses me off about him. He barely criticizes Kyrie or TT on TV for their horrible defense or even offense, he beats around the bush but don't directly talk about them, but the moment the rookie screws up he gets pissed and goes on with his drunk speech. We are talking about an old time NBA player not a pro-broadcaster. Austin is much more raw and emotional rather than analytical.
But back to Bennett; i really hope he is building up that confidence. Can't wait to see if he gets some minutes on Thur.

Yeah, and it is pretty obvious that the Cavs aren't a good team at this point even with the Deng addition. I think it is time to give the rook a chance to shoot himself out of a rut. Best case? He gains confidence going into the break and has a strong second half. Worst case? The Cavs keep losing.

I'll tell you this... I'm going to be heated if AB plays just 5-10 minutes or gets a dreaded DNB-CD tomorrow. Take him off the short leash.

That's why Andy being out may be a good thing in the grand scheme. It gives Brown the green light to play Bennett as much as possible. Earl Clark needs to be completely out of the rotation. Not only does he have no longterm future here, but I'm willing to step out and say Bennett is actually already better than him. So, even if Brown's rationale is "win now," AB should be getting all of Clark's minutes.
Maybe the most impressive thing about Bennett's game last night was the way he defended Anthony Davis. Obviously, Davis got his points and rebounds, but AB did not look overwhelmed with that assignment and even won some one-on-one battles (blocked Davis in iso).
It's pretty clear to me that Bennett is a PF, not a SF. He has looked lost defending the perimeter. He is so much more comfortable down in the paint.
The kid has a 7-foot-1 wingspan. It's not like he doesn't have the length to compete underneath. Instead of trying to throw a new position at him along with trying to adapt to the speed of the NBA, let him do what he does naturally. Maybe he can play some SF years from now when he has become accustomed to the league, but not a good idea right now.
Brown has handled the Bennett situation horribly... there's no denying that.

...and Oladipo has been playing 30+ minutes in games since the beginning of the season. This is the first time Bennett has gone over 20 minutes in a game.
I don't know why people are obsessed with Oladipo. He's had an OK rookie year... not great and he would make no sense on this Cavs team. We already have three combo guards in Waiters, Jack and Delly. He'd be totally redundant.

Like I said, I'm OK with Tristan, Zeller and Andy getting the majority of the minutes. Andy is the best interior player we have and the other two are actually a part of the team's future.
However, a guy like Earl Clark should not be getting 15-20+ minutes a night while Bennett wastes away on the bench. At some point, you have to let the kid try and maybe even fail a few times before you pull the plug on him. He's going to make mistakes, but I'd rather let him play through some of that over playing Clark, who is essentially useless when his jumper isn't falling (80% of the time).
I was with you early in the season. It was clear Bennett was not physically or mentally ready in the first month or so. But, the time has come to allow the kid some room for error.
