Decided to check this guy out since he declared for the 2014 NBA Draft and is looking like a pick the Lakers might end up getting...

First thing I noticed on his drives is that he reminds me a lot of young Kobe in the way he moves on the court.

Second thing I noticed is that his shot is ugly as hell, and I love shooters... I really hope he's able to improve in this and doesn't turn out to be like a Rondo/Rubio type PG with no shot.

No Exum? Lakers should be fine with Smart.
If they really feel Marshall is their PG in the future, then there's always Gordon, Lavine, and Vonleh

I would love to have Exum on the team because of his potential. He's got incredible speed for his length and I prefer Exum to Smart. I think Smart is more NBA ready but doesn't have that franchise player type of potential which the Lakers need. Of course, this is going to depend a lot on what lottery pick the Lakers get...

I kind of like Smart but he's a real combo guard. Too short for the two and he's not really a one. He plays really hard and I like that a lot. Def no a pu ssy. As far as Exum goes, he's a poor shooter and again, he's really a combo guard. Smart is more of a PG to me than Exum is. Exum has more length and I think of him as more of a two but he's a poor shooter. Of course, in today's NBA many guards are poor shooters.

Really? All the scouting reports say that Exum has tremendous court vision.

If we don't get Jabari or Wiggins, Exum is an intriguing prospect.

Best part is we can build around him the next few years on Kobe's farewell tour.

Interesting to note, he hired Kobe's Agent and is heading to L.A. to prep for the Draft.

Tremendous court vision? I don't agree with that. Honestly, if you went to NBAdraft.net (or any other scouting site) and read the scouting report on every potential pick, you'd be led to believe that every pick had "tremendous" something. I'm just going by what I've seen of him. I think of him as a willing passer at the two. He's tall but he's a little skinny and he's gonna need to put on some weight. He's a good ball handler but his shot is poor as hell.

It's okay but nothing special. IMO he is a SG in the Mold of Kobe or Harden. A ball dominant 2 who has solid court vision and can create for others as well.

His shot needs work but it's is a lot better than 2 years ago and he is a gym rat so I wouldn't be too worried about it.
Also his shot is already better than Rondo's or Rubio's

He has elite quickness and an incredible first step but his Jumping ability isn't that great.
He kinda reminds me of Manu in the way that he is very agile and drives to the basket at will with his combination of quickness, ballhandling and coordination and is able to finish at the rim even though he isn't a great leaper.

You won't get a top 6 pick. Hopefully not. That's where the future superstars will get picked

We have a good chance to get a Top 6 Pick since we're the team with the 6th worst record in the NBA and still tanking strong.

The Kings with Cousins, Gay, and Thomas are bound to win more games than us so we're likely looking at 5th worst record or worse...

There are 7 teams which have a higher chance of finishing lower than the Lakers.

What makes you Laker fans so absolutely sure sometimes that you will get Wiggins?

Obviously reading comprehension isn't your strong suit idiot. No Lakers fans think they'll get Wiggins for sure.

Anyways when it comes to Exum and Smart I'd like either prospect, but Smart to me seems like a better fit that would allow Kobe to transition to the SF position. Lakers need that relentless attacking type of player on their team. Plus I think Smart would do well paired with Kevin Love if the Lakers decide to make a run for him.

You should read before you start commenting :facepalm

Also Lakers have a tough remaining schedule
And they are currently the lone 6th seed, and are still free falling

It sure could end up interesting at draft time for the lakers. They could also take Dario saric with randle and exum still on the board. Maybe they let d'antoni make the pick.

Both smart or exum would be sweet lakers picks, it would be so nice to see a gaurd there. But as far as something Kobe and pau to play off- I keep thinking of Julius Randle as someone who might fit the lakers really well.

It would be a dream if the Lakers somehow landed Embiid. I really hate how he's been escalated to the projected #1 draft pick.

Based on? Smart is not a good decision maker, not that good playing off the ball and is shooting is spotty at best. He has intangibles I like as far as being a leader high motor, and is a terrible defender/rebounder.

He will never be Rondo/Rubio with no shot, he's much more likely to be Dwayne Wade with no shot. Exum right now is probably a better scorer than Rondo and Rubio.

He has the 3rd best ceiling in this draft after the guys from Kansas.

:biggums:

Bad rebounder/defender?!?!? Smart is averaging 6 rebounds and one of the things scouts love about him was the fact that he could guard 1-4 at the college level (obviously won't guard NBA PFs).

I'd rather have Exum than Smart. Exum has a much more diverse offensive game. He has shown the ability to work in iso situation, pick and roll, out of the post, and off ball. Good court vision and has show a willingness to pass which is just as important. He will be a versatile defender at the pro level too with his length and agility. Smart is very strong, athletic, and offensively gifted but I worry about his maturity as a PG a bit. However, he is already a really good pick and roll player which will make his transition to the NBA very smooth.

I think both Smart and Exum will end up playing SG in the NBA because of their size, scoring ability and the fact that so many teams have star PGs now.

Smart fits more into the SG mold in my mind because of his play style and athleticism. I see Exum being more of a position-less guard. He could be paired with a SG or PG and not really have to change his game a whole lot to be effective.

What a fcuking ignorant comment. Lets look at the bottom 6 teams

Bucks- dont have a decent pg who u can build around
Magic - nelson is meh
Boston - rondo will be traded or they have other needs
Lakers - no decent pg in last 10 or more years
76ers - MWC ... He had potential but def not a star ph yet
Kings- isiah should be 6th man candidate but is starting

So all these teams need a decent pg

To those in here speaking with apparent knowledge of Exum’s game, you simply don’t have it unless:

1. You live in Canberra and attend his high school games. I’d venture a guess 90% of you don’t even know where Canberra is, let alone live there

2. You went to the recent Australian National High Schools Championships and watched him. Let’s be honest, you didn’t do that

3. You have watched him play for the Australian national team at the Junior World Championships. Maybe you did.. but I don’t think they televise these games. Anywhere. Ever. Unless you went in person, you didn’t see him there, either

4. You saw the World vs US High School All-Star Game. Yeah, you probably did. Or at least, you could have. Still, this is one game. An all-star game, at that.

Really, all of us, even his compatriots like me, have next-to-nothing on which to form an opinion. So why pretend like you can compare his game to guys’ like Smart or Wiggins or whoever? It’s embarrassing to read

Then you fall in the 3rd "unless" category. Good job.

For anyone interested, here is a piece on him this morning from one of our papers:

Longley taking calls from various teams about his character and stuff. Interest seems to be very high

That always makes me laugh. If Exum turns out like Rondo you throw a big fat party. If he turns out like Rubio you are still pretty happy.

Yes Rubio can
