Shouldn't the FMVP award have Michael Jordan's name on it?

I personally believe, that it eventually will.

I understand, but shouldn't the Award be named after the guy who has more of them than any player, let alone over a guy who doesn't have any?

You act as if the NBA naming an award after Michael Jordan is absurd or something. It's Michael Jordan. The most popular player of all time and the player most associated with the FMVP award.

Seriously, when you think of the FMVP, who do you think of? Michael Jordan or Bill Russell?

FMVP is already for Bill Russell

Give Jordan the MVP award. The Michael Jordan MVP award winner is...

Jordan doesn't have to be involved in everything NBA you know. Jordan wouldn't even turn up to present it

It'd make more sense to give it to Kareem then, given that he's won the most...

Or possibly LeBron if he can win a few more MVPs, though that's projecting quite some time into the future.

Yeah, they aren't going to take Russell's name off it ever. The rest of the awards should stay without names as well, but that's my opinion. The sponsors piss me off. Fck Kia

The only time I could see them changing it is if Bill dies, but legacy normally grows stronger with death.

GaryRaymond23

I don't think it will ever be changed. I obviously see a legitimate argument for Jordan getting a FMVP award named after him but with the dominance that Russell displayed and his elite, most likely never will be broken Finals record .. I mean, his dominance was bar none in terms of Championships.

No I don't. I ALWAYS say he's a top 4 player of all time and I never rank anyone above him. I have a list of 4 players who are the best from different eras and I don't rank them against each other. How is that shitting on him?

Here's the list of early finals MVPs
[QUOTE]Finals MVP

1969 -- Jerry West, Los Angeles
Averaged 30.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.5 assists in 18 playoff games as the Lakers lost to the Boston Celtics, 4-3. West has been the only NBA Finals MVP to play for a losing team.
1970 -- Willis Reed, New York
Averaged 23 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists in the Knicks

If they had intended to give it Jordan's name, they would already have on the first place, so it's not going to happen. Jordan's status is huge as it is, he doesn't need any more accolades to boost it. Russell is the one who's not award-decorated enough for someone who's won 11 titles as the man, so naming an award that he never won, but would have undoubtedly won multiple times had it existed back then, is much more reasonable.

You think MJ would charge to be an NBA logo? Stop kidding me.

Bill Russell is the GOAT player, there's no reason to try to diminish him by taking his name off of the award

It shouldn't change, imo. The NBA logo should be non-flamboyant and indicative of a league, not a player.

Exactly, if we're naming trophies after guys who haven't even played (they mean nothing to the game), then why not Mr.T all-nba 1st team selection and Joe Jackson all-rookie team selection while we're at it.

They are not going to rename a reward when it's already been named for another legend. It would be the height of disrespect.

Just needed to let OP be aware of his stupidity.

Then again he's a fan of a franchise who retired MJ's jersey when he never played a second for them.
