View Full Version : Who is the 3rd best player in the league?

Out of who's healthy right now. So no Rose, Westbrook, Kobe etc.

CP?
Paul George?

I admittedly haven't been following the regular season thus far this year so I don't really have any input myself. Lebron and KD are so far ahead of everyone it seems. Reminds me of the state of soccer.

I think a few weeks ago it was Ross then Melo but I think Bran reclaimed his spot at numba 3 after Durant and Giannis

Edit: Oh shit i forgot about Perkins

I'd say Curry but he's too damn inconsistent at times, for every game he goes 5-8 from 3, he has games where he goes 1-7 and 2-8...

Talent wise, I think it's Curry, production wise, I'd say Dirk. Last 5 games:

28.2 ppg 9.2 rpg 2.8 apg on 55/44/97 shooting

He's really looked like his old self this season, happy to see that the old man still has it.

Dragic has been playing out of his mind, has improved a lot. Brow is putting crazy numbers, Blake Griffin also had some great games, Love has had great games, Melo won some games by himself, Tony Parker is constantly underrated by everyone, Ty had good games,Al is dominating bigs, Demarcus .. etc. The point is you cant say one is better than the other cause each of them are great at what they do and improve their team in their own way. Sure, one can look at last game's stats and say one's better than the other but next game's gonna be different.

I'll just say that the player that impressed me the most this Season is Dragic. He's playing great (improved a lot) and is the heart of the Suns.

Suppose a heathly Chris Paul followed by Melo. It's tough.. As the drop off after Lebron and Durant is pretty big

Lediva and Durant will be all time great. They're so far ahead of anyone else it almost doesn't matter who's after.. but if someone put a gun to my head I'd say CP3.

My ranking for just this year...

Durant
Lebron
CP3
Melo
George
Aldridge
Howard
Harden
Griffin
Love

That's the top 10... the next few, not in order, are players like... Cousins, Davis, Dirk, Curry...

What's the argument for Melo over Love?

Love is putting up better stats (26-13-4 vs 27-9-3), and they play comparable defense. Melo has improved in that aspect for sure, but he's still not that great when it comes to it and certainly not a lot better than Love.

The knock against Love is how he puts up empty stats and is leading his team to nowhere. Well, his team is 24-24. The knicks are 19-29.

Anyway, my answer right now is probably LMA or Love. Hell, I think even Davis has a legitimate shout. If everyone is healthy though, Chris Paul.

None, but neither is top 3. And they will never be unless they improve their defense.

Honestly, the dropoff after KD/LBJ is so large that it really doesn't matter who's third. If everyone was healthy, it'd be CP3.

Jesus Christ.

Well I guess he was arguably the best in 2012-13 too, seeing as he put up better numbers that year than he did in 2011. Hell who knows, barring injury he might even be better than Durant today and still be seen as arguably the #1 overall player :facepalm

He was ARGUABLY, the #1 player in the league from 2006-08, although I would argue he was never the best player in the league for any seasons alone sans MAYBE 2008

I'd give it to Melo statistically. 27/9/3 on 45/42.5/84 shooting (56% TS) along with the Knicks being 6 points better defensively while he's on the floor.

I'm happy for his past accomplishments, there are tons of other great's who have great resumes from the past as well.

26.2/6.8/6.5/1.4/0.3 65.6 TS% 29.1 PER .271 WSp48
vs
31.1/7.6/5.3/1.5/.8 64.5 TS% 31.1 PER .328 WSp48

Cool story bra. Thunder are 17-6 since Westbrook went down. Heat are 12-7 over the same stretch. And in that 23 game stretch, the Thunder have beaten Miami, San Antonio, Portland, Golden State, HoustonX2, Atlanta, Phoenix, Brooklyn, Memphis, and Charlotte. That's damn near the entire playoff bracket

In what world is Carmelo having some sensational season? The top 2 small forwards in the NBA were better at the age of 21 than Carmelo is now. Hell they were arguably better in their 2nd years at age 20.

Exactly!

It seems that many of you are basing your logic on a singular facet of the game. Melo is an incredibly gifted offensive juggernaut but he's not a better basketball player than the likes of a Paul George or LMA. Perhaps my view upon what constitutes being the 'best' is divergent from the majority here.

it is. The best players are able to carry an offense on a nightly basis. George can't do that and to a lesser extent LMA can't either.
