View Full Version : Wait, so Dwight can stay in if he fouls out?

Or any other foul-prone superstars?

Let's say there's three minutes left in a close game.

Dwight picks up foul number six.

Houston declares that everyone else on their bench is injured, and their only available players are the five on the floor.

Dwight gets to stay in the game, and it is well worth it even if they have to give up a technical free throw for subsequent fouls...

Why have teams not been doing this all along?

I would totally take being able to keep LeBron, KD, Dwight or another superstar on the floor after fouling out if it meant giving up a technical free throw if they fouled again. Come on.

Would you rather play without KD, or play with him but give up a technical free throw whenever he fouls. That's an easy choice.

Like any rule, if people exploit it constantly, they'll put new rules in place.

If they keep doing it, then they'll say, the declared injured player(s) can't play the next game too. Then what?

What if it was Game 7 of the Finals?

You guys are ****ing stupid. This happened in 2010 and nobody said a word. Happens to the Lakers? Now everyone thinks it's gaming the system and now everyone should try to do it!

What the **** are you talking about?Last night due to injuries and Kaman fouling out the Lakers only had 5 guys. Sacre was then whistled for his 5th foul but he stayed on court and any subsequent foul also has a technical foul tacked on.

Now people are all up in arms even though the rule has been in place forever and has been applied in the past.. most recently for the Warriors, I believe it was Curry that got to stay in the game

Thank you, that rule sort of makes sense but you would never be able to abuse it in the way the OP implies. You'd have to play 5 guys 48 minutes basically otherwise that 6th man would be forced in correct?

Go into the game with 9 guys. That leaves you room for 1 player to get tossed for saying "**** you" to the referee or the opposing coach, 1 player with a "hamstring" injury, 1 player to foul out early and then the 6th player to foul out late in the third quarter.

It's truly genius.

It Is. And make those fouls all to be HARD AS FCUK so it really intimdates the opponent and they stop their driving to the basket..

OP makes an interesting point, but realistically the league clearly wouldnt let this happen.

No you wouldn't be able to abuse the rule but then the OP is just being an idiot... There's actually no incentive to reach the point where this rule comes into play because every foul ends up in 3 free throws 2 for the foul and one for the technical... or one free throw for the tech and possession of the ball
