View Full Version : Worst game of LeBron's career?

Prometheus

After watching tonight's Heat/Jazz game, I'm compelled to say that this was the single most pathetic regular season performance of LeBron James's career. He made no attempt to get to the basket, played lazy defense even by this year's standards, and just appeared to not give a shit. It's like his soul was possessed by Andrew Bynum for the night. His final numbers for the game:

13 points on 4-13 FG, 1-6 3FG, 4-6 FT
5 assists
7 rebounds
5 turnovers

These are terrible numbers for a player of his stature, and having watched the game I can say that he was even worse than the numbers indicate. Normally I shrug off a bad regular season game by a great player, but this was bad enough that I honestly like LeBron less because of it. Allen Iverson was a low-IQ chucker, but he poured his heart and soul into every game and Sixers fans knew they would get their money's worth. Watching tonight's game, I couldn't shake the impression that LeBron just doesn't give a shit about his fans. If you appreciate how blessed you are to live such a rich and luxurious life just for playing a game, how blessed you are to be a famous icon of sports, you need to put your heart into every game. Is there any more room on the Durant bandwagon?

Not counting his rookie season and some playoff performances, I'd say this one is right up there.

Certainly ranks up there, its not just the shooting being off, but the rest of his game, even the passing.

Yeah, normally that's what I'd say, but I'm thinking of all the fans who spend a ton of money to see these athletes play live, and how those athletes owe it to those fans to play like they give a shit. That's why I brought up Iverson. It's just the regular season, but it's still basketball, and if basketball made you a millionaire you need to show some god damn passion. Tonight was a special kind of pathetic.

21 points (7/21 shooting), 1 rebound, 0 assists (first time ever), 1 steal, 2 blocks, 3 turnovers.

But you have to give credit to Jazz defense aswell, they were double-triple teaming him to hell & soon as he blew by anyways they would foul him (no shooting foul), playing the passing lanes amazingly by deflecting/stealing his passes, forcing only shots around 3pt line and that was completely off for him & he then ofcourse refused to settle for those, he couldnt post up without seeing at least 2 guys, he got rid of it and got some "hockey assists" sometimes & all 5 turnovers were passes which would have ended up to a wideopen guy all the time if they werent stolen, so they dodged a bullet a bit there considering how close the game was.

Rookie or 2nd year.

It was obviously a long time ago, and you could argue given his talent level now vs then that this is his worst game, but purely statistically speaking, that was his worst game ever in the regular season.

And his worst postseason performance wasn't the Finals. He posted 12/9/9 with 10 turnovers on 2-18 shooting vs Boston one year and his team only lost by 4. And they lost the series in 7. :lol

That was probably the worst series an MVP quality player has EVER had

12/9/9 with 10 turnovers on 2-18 shooting and team loses by 4
21/5/6 with 7 turnovers on 6-24 shooting and team loses by 14
21/5/8 with 2 turnovers on 5-16 shooting and team wins by 24
21/6/13 with 5 turnovers on 7-20 shooting and team wins by 11
35/3/5 with 4 turnovers on 12-25 shooting and team loses by 6
32/12/6 with 8 turnovers on 9-23 shooting and team wins by 5
45/5/6 with 2 turnovers on 14-29 shooting, but allows past prime Paul Pierce to drop 41/5/5 on 13-23 shooting and LeBron's team loses by 5

36% from the field, 23% from 3, 5+ turnovers per game and his team loses in 7 despite winning the series in overall points by +11

Thats why I laugh at Bran stans when they complain about Cleveland.. they werent the best supporting cast but they were passable because they had top defenses and rebounding in the league, Their offense sucked but everything else was good. It could keep them in games even when James was off.

I agree with this to an extent...

Lebron put up 27/6/8 on 48%TS in that series

Kobe put up 26/5/5 on 50.5% TS in his series against the Celtics

Lebron averaged a little over 5 turnovers per game.
Kobe averaged 4 turnovers per game.

So I agree that Lebron's teams were better than we give them credit for at times, that was still a pre peak Lebron facing a team that did virtually the same thing to Kobe...and Kobe definitely had the better team.

Also, Lebron doesn't get near enough credit for his defense in 08 on that team...he improved and already elite defense in the playoffs while on the floor.(2.5 points better per 100 possessions)

Kobe's team actually got slightly better defensively when he was on the bench (2.1 points better per 100 possessions)

But Pau got punked.. put up 15/10 to KG's 18/13 and dropped off from 19/8 regular season. Odom was just about average for his standards.. and the rest of the team kinda sucked. Derek Fisher, sasha vujajic, radmonovic playing the next most minutes...

Kobe's second option was definitely better than Bron's but Bron had a well rounded team. When you account for Kobe's second option playing like shit it makes it that much closer for comparisons involving how they went out vs the C's

Lebron was even worse in the 07 finals and he was IIRC 2nd in MVP voting
he avged 35% shooting and 6turnovers yet his team only lost by double digits once and that was -11. Lebrons always had a load of help defensively/rebounding in Cleveland

I agree with all that...but Kobe still had a better team. It's not like the Cavs were doing anything either. I'd take both Gasol and Odom in how they played in that finals over anyone the Cavs had. Although West did play pretty well...he'd still be behind those two guys.

And you can't ignore Lebron's impact on the defense either...I totally agree the Cavs defense was better, but Lebron was a part of that.
