View Full Version : What will KD's great season mean without a ring?

KD is obviously playing out of his mind this year, and should be on his way to a near unanimous MVP. If he keeps up this level of play after the All Star break it will be one of the greatest regular seasons ever. But if he doesn't win the chip this year will anyone even remember it? Last year Lebron and the Heat had one of the greatest regular seasons ever, but if they had lost to the Spurs last year his great season and the team's 27 game win streak would not mean a thing. Is it do or die for Durant this year?

Depends. It might make him a choker, but if they lose to injury nobody will care.

A great regular season should be followed by a great playoffs.

Do or die? He's only 25.

Depends how well he plays, but if the thunder, pacers or heat don't win this season then its a huge failure and disappointment.

Right now I'd probably pick okc to win it

The Thunder will wil it all and Durant will win FMVP if Westbrook is 100% healthy, which I think he will be once he's back.

it will mean that westbrook got hurt again

I think it would be a let down for the Thunder as a team. One guy can't win a championship by himself. Lebron couldn't do it in Cleveland and that's why he joined forces with 2 other superstars and a load of role players.

If this isn't their year, then you would like to think it would be next year. I just think they have to stay healthy and get homecourt.

If Westbrook's healthy, the only team that has a chance at beating them is Miami. And with the Final's format changing to 2-2-1-1-1 this year, I like OKC's chances as they'll likely have HCA. Also no Harden to fvck it up this time around and Durant is now twice the player that he was in 2012

If you start a nice play, finish it.

I totally forgot it's goin back to 2-2-1-1-1 this year, that makes me want OKC to have a better record than Mia and ind even more now. But to answer the question, it will probably be remembered just like the other great individual seasons for a player who didn't win a championship :confusedshrug:

I think it will be a pretty big fail. If OKC doesn't win this year with the season Durant is having, the pressure, ringless jokes, etc, will start piling up.

He already lost while being on the most stacked team of all time once. If it happens again, his chances of becoming a TOP 50 player are pretty much lost.

That he is inevitably 2nd, which he still is and always will until lbj retires

Well it means something in the sense of showing how productive he can be.... if he wins the MVP it will at least boost him a bit higher on the all-time list knocking on the door at top 50 or arguably even inside top 50...

It will also mean something like the situation of:

Iverson 2001
Malone 1997
Barkley 1993
Robinson 1995
Jordan 1988
Moses 1983
and so on.... where the 2nd'ish best player wins the MVP...

LeBron has NO argument as to being a better player than Durant at this current time. Durant has been FAR better this season, in virtually every aspect.

Tracy McGrady has one hot season, and people on this website to this day still ride him for it, 11 years later. I think it's safe to say he'll be fine, regardless of the outcome

If KD managed to play this level for the rest of the season, step it up a few notches in both the playoff, and Finals. Winning a ring in true competitive spirit, maximizing his abilities within a team concept. And not cowardly stacking the deck to win rings as easily as possible.

Depending on his level of play in the playoffs ... if it reaches rarified air, legendary type status like Magic, Bird, Jordan, Hakeem, and Shaq. Then it has the potential to be one of the all time greatest seasons.

He's put it all together this year. Improving significantly on his weaknesses, defense, and playmaking. He just needs epic, legendary playoff performances and wins to cement it. I don't see why he can't win a championship, either. This isn't a T-Mac 2003, Kobe 2006, Wade 2009 type of situation with an atrocious roster surrounding him.

He has to win this year or he will be crucified especially if he doesn't make it to the finals ala LBJ 2008-2010.

Get it done KD or your the next scape goat.

Deep Playoff run with nice stats: 2004 Garnett
Early exit with inferior stats: 2006 Kobe

nothing. Not to be harsh or anything, but this was how lebron was crucified early in his career(im not a lebron fan). Put it this way, in the early 2000s you had great players like Tmac, AI, VC...etc who were phoenomeonal in the regular season. Looking back today, people call them chokers, chuckers cancers...etc.
Now step back for a moment, imagine if iverson won in 2001? Not only would he not be labeled a chucker, I have no doubt that he would be labeled as one of the bests ever.
I have no doubt that KD will eventually win a ring(or perhaps this will be his year) but in the end, POs are all that matters.

The average fan won't criticize him, but experts and analysts will. I will also hate him every chance I get, not because I dislike Durant, but because Joyner is annoying and the biggest stan ever. Doesn't have 1\20th of the accomplishment LeBron has, yet this idiot keeps saying he's the best in the league.

depends on the circumstances.

if WB is back healthy and the Thunder make the move that they absolutely should at the deadline to improve...and they lose

it's going to hurt him, but it won't take away from an epic regular season. i will just hurt his year overall.

Funny thing is Miami are still favourites till proven otherwise. OKC obviously not making the finals would be a disappointment but getting to the finals wouldn't be a bad year. Not when there time to win is many years to come.
