View Full Version : 2 Dirks or 2 KGs?

You have an average team. In addition, you also have the choice to add either:

1) Dirk Nowitzki and a clone of him, identical in every single way

2) Kevin Garnett and a clone of him, also identical in every way

Which would make the more dangerous team? 2 KGs or 2 Dirks?

Assume all players are at their absolute peaks.

2 KGs because this is where his versatility would come in handy.

2 KGS
Defense would be insane and he can pass very good and has good offensive skills
2 Dirks is beast as well as in offensive side is scary
sounds impossible to gaurd
but i rather have 2 KGS

2 KGs would try to fight each other but each one would be scared of the other and their combined fear would cause a black hole to appear and suck us all into oblivion.

:oldlol: I was originally thinking 2 MJs vs 2 Hakeems, but scrapped that precisely for that situation you mentioned in the bolded, except with 2 MJs.

Dirk's best quality is scoring, and there is only one ball. 2nd Dirk would be somewhat redundant. Their teams rebounding would be average, defense even more so with two Dirk's frontcourt. It would be better for a team if Dirk gets his polar opposite, lets say Chandler? :D

Two KG's could actually compliment each other due to versatility, on both sides of the court. Who is going to score on them? GOAT defense and rebounding, elite scoring, spacing and passing. Everyone is crying over KG's illegal screens and trash talk, imagine two of them?

redundant... Because you've never heard about the major spacing/matchup issues Dirk creates off the ball... right? :wtf:

2 KG's then I would play them at the 1 and 2 . Get some other 7 footers to fill out the other position. GOAT offense + defense.

West would try it, Dirk would just stare at the other Dirk and do this

and at the end of games you'll have two guys passing up the ball in the big moments. :lol

give me two Dirks

a team first guy who doesn't make waves, won't force his way elsewhere if things aren't going well, and an ageless wonder.

My main point is pretty much the point of discussion so far. It's pretty much unreal versatility and overall dominance vs. an offensive juggernaut, unstoppable clutch force.

Offense is somewhat replaceable.

Interior defense though...would be bad with 2 Dirks.

since I never saw KG once do much to stop a Dirk Nash/Harris/Terry P&R I'm going to go ahead and say his P&R D is vastly overrated.

Dirk is what he is. KG....I think I could mold one of the KGS to fill a role that wouldn't put him in the way of the other KG. One a center one a 3. No matter where you put Dirk on the paperwork he is gonna operate from the same basic spots and do the same things. I think KG could just...go play typical small forwards on both ends with the other staying in the paint.

I think I could make a defense to contend easier off 2 KGs than an offense to contend off two Dirks.

I think the combo of the two would make for a better team than a combo of several players better than either of them though.

They could play well together I suspect.

2 Kevin Nowitzkis

2 Kevin Nowitzki's could probably play with two 50 year old Steve Nash's and still beat teams 4 on 5.

2 dirk is kind of redundant, I mean there's only one ball. 2 KG, just thinking about the defensive coverage in half court  and if there's one of them to take the offensive load off the other, would be better than over the hill sprewell/cassell.

Its hard, it depends what you like more, offense v defense, I'm going with 2 Dirks, but its a really tough choice, I guess if you have perimeter scorers 2 KGs would be better, I dunno.

I'm a huge dirk fan, and even believe him to be better than KG, but a 2nd Dirk would be redundant. KG is more versatile and the team would probably be better with 2 KGs.

Easily two KG's without a doubt! Most likely the best two way PF of all time and in general the most versatile PF of all time on both sides of the rock. U could lineup one KG at SF and the other at PF if you wanted. Or u could go one at PF and the other at Center. In both instances, the defense wouldn't drop off much. The most impressive thing to me about KG was frankly the fact he could defend big swingmen all the way down to center very good to great. Dirk as great as he is doesn't bring as much to the table to justify taking two of him. Dirk is a better scorer than KG but that's it. Hell I think Dirk, Barkley, Hayes, and Mailman are the best scorers ever at the PF. And Dirk is the biggest matchup nightmare of any PF ever.

Pointguard

If one Dirk could get away from having to be paired up with matching up with one of the KG's it could be favorable for Dirk's team. Healthy Tyson Chandler on one of the KG's, Ray Allen and Kidd as the other players I think that could have a Dirk spin. With nobody really penetrating you take away a KG advantage.

Doubles usually go to players that have diversified talents.

ALBballer

I would take Dirk over KG but in this hypothetical situation 2 KGs is probably the best answer. Defensive the team would be solid (paint presence, rebounding, post defense) and offensively the team would be fine due to spacing and passing.

2 Dirks would create an average at best defensive front court but offensively the team would be scary.

KG has better overall skills while Dirk is the better player overall.

Pointguard

In their prime, mano a mano, when KG guarded Dirk, he usually outscored him. If Dirk had guarded KG, KG probably would have outscored by a bigger margin.

KG was just flat out better than Dirk, so the answer is easy.

Milbuck
02-11-2014, 06:47 PM
Let's say the teams were put together so that the talent level was equal, but the teams were assembled differently to suit the needs of the players. So KG would be surrounded by good shooters, Dirk would get a defensive minded supporting cast with a respectable low-post defender.

2 KGs cause in his prime he was pretty stoppable on offense and a great defender so you basically got the best of both worlds.

Dirk is an average defender with great scoring skills.

I prefer defense over offense and in this cause the offense doesn't really drop off that much
