View Full Version : Is LeBron James still coasting?

I had been under the impression that he has been coasting this season and he'd turn it on probably with a month left of the regular season to be peaking just in time for the playoffs. I'm not saying he's coasted every minute of every game this season but I'll say a majority of the minutes in a majority of the games. I haven't watched a ton of Heat games this season for that reason. For those who have, do you feel he's still coasting or has he turned it up already?

He didn't coast last night

What about the game before last night? Like is there a trend or whatever or do you think last night was just because it was a nationally televised game?
No the heat turned it up starting with the KNicks game. Any loses and wins now were trying.

He is not coasting, if anything he was taking it easy on defense this season, but offensively, I don't think so.

How long ago was that? See if he and the heat actually crank it up right now then it makes no sense at all to me. Are they decreasing Allen, Battier, and Haslem's minutes and playing Beasley and Oden more minutes? I just don't see why they'd crank it up already. At least wait until after the break.

It's very simple.
Good game = not coasting, but not really trying
Great game = trying
bad game = coasting

Depends on how he plays:pimp:

They had to get going on their six game road trip so they started early.
You can tell by Spolestra no longer playing the scrubs. Even Beasley. :facepalm

Nah cause I've seen him playing hard and still have a bad game more than once this season. I'm not one of those kind of fans.

that Utah game he wasn't coasting, I don't think he's coasting anymore. I think this is the time of year where they start tightening up the ship on defense and start gaining momentum into the playoffs.

at one point you start wondering he lebron has the ability to turn it "on" whenever he wants anymore.

Man I thought Beasley would be a major role for them off the bench. How's Shard been doing?

He doesnt play either. Spolestra likes a short rotation unless Wade is not playing. Which sucks because Beasly had potential.

See the thing is that I see it happen during the games. It's like in spurts. He seems bored and then towards the end he wants to win so they really try hard. Like to try and make it challenging. I'll be honest, I've been blown away by his numbers this year because of how lazy and sloppy he's been the times I've seen him.

If the world just consists of LeBron haters and stans then I'm definitely the latter.

I think he's coasting defensively, which hurts his offense as well since he relies so much on steals/fastbreaks

pretty simple when coasting happens to any player:
gamble on D
going on offense before the defensive rebound
bad team defense
not taking the best possible shot
late clock 3s
etc.
lebron sometimes did the things above ( in general home games vs bad teams ). some games, like important games he plays like he did last night, with great effort.

So then you guys think that the trend will continue and they're ramping it up? Why would they do that this early into the season? They aren't trying to get the number 1 seed are they? Just with so many older players or players with minutes limits and whatnot.

He stopped coasting a good month ago. I would mark the January 7 game against NOP as the turning point in his effort level. This is about the same time KD started going off too. LeBron upped his own offensive aggressiveness from that point on. He's averaging 28.3 ppg in 16 games since(25.3 ppg in first 33 games) and that number would've been closer to 30 ppg had he not completely mailed that Utah game in. His defensive intensity has really gone up too the last few weeks.

Coasting isn't the right word. Maybe that was more likely the case early in the season. The stretch just before the all star break is the worst as far as regular season doldrums go.
He's more prone to simply being disinterested. That's even worse. You can see this when he doesn't get a call and would rather bitch at the refs than run back on defense, costing his team to give up easy transition buckets.

I think he has been, he's not dropping off at age 29.

I just don't understand why he'd start playing hard right now. It's still so early in the season.

Oh nah I'm asking more because I haven't watched Miami lately cause I knew he was coasting. Just wondering if people who do watch them think he still is. I thought he would up until like May

Funny, right? A player is averaging 26/7/7 on 58% and people think he's dropping off.
@OP, He's been noticeably more active and involved since the OKC game. Both on the offensive end and the defensive end. The Jazz game was just a bad one.

I think if you watch the Utah game and the game last night you would see it's not just him playing bad. He will step it when it matters most. Winning back to back titles your focus changes.

Think problem is people look at what durant is doing and people question Lebron...it's just durant is doing some epic stuff out there it's just overshadowing Lebron's greatness a little bit.

True, but 3 deep playoff runs and international tournaments and all. The guy played more basketball than any other player over the last 3 years. That takes a toll and taking it a bit easy in the regular season is wise. Especially since LeBron has a great team around him, he can relax a bit.
