View Full Version : Is it correct that LeBron and Kobe only have 1 buzzer beater in the playoffs?

Just looking at some stats from this. I want to see if it's accurate, and i know it's missing James game winner against indy at the buzzer game 1, but is it leaving out any other shots?:
http://chasing23.com/kobe-bryant-vs-lebron-james-game-winning-shots/

It looks like Kobe only has 1 buzzer beater in the playoffs, but he has another shot with .2 left that could basically count as a buzzer beater. First 9 years in the league, Kobe was 4/15 on game winners. LeBron is 5/12 :biggums: Neither number is great, but there's one clear winner there. Kobe made 4 in a row from 2004-2006, which is respectable. After that, he only went 1/10

Those are honestly pretty bad clutch numbers for Kobe. Why do I remember him being so clutch? Was it Horry/Fisher saving him? And really? Only 1 buzzer beater for each Kobe/LeBron in the playoffs? Who has Jordan's buzzer beater numbers?

Would be curious to see some updated numbers on LeBron. It doesn't include 12-13

That's the one I'm counting, along with the Indy game 1. I guess technically Bran has 2 :lol

Jordan had 3 buzzer beaters off the top of my head. 1989 Game 5 against Cleveland, 1993 Game 4 against Cleveland, 1997 Game 1 against Utah.

1989 Game 3 vs. Detroit and 1998 Game 6 against Utah, he made game-winning shots that left a few seconds left on the clock.

In the playoffs? Have a Youtube link?

Also, anyone know if LeBron attempts are missing from 12-13? Did he miss any game winners? Can't remember off the top of my head

Doesn't really matter, but it looks like LeBron is winning in overall clutch numbers

Who cares about a buzzer beater? So if a guy makes a shot with 15 seconds left to put his team up, is that not clutch? Or does the clock have say 0:00 to count as a clutch shot? You guys are such simpletons...

All he's doing is counting the number of them. if you think it determines who's good or a bad player you're projecting your on thoughts on do it

Admittedly, I didn't really read the thread, just the title but still, others are asking the same question.

A buzzer beater sounds cool, but in actuality it is the same thing as a shot that leaves .3 or less on the clock. Like last nights Lebron shot. The game was over after he hit, but technically it wasn't a buzzer beater

Lebron is one of the most clutch players we have ever seen and it doesn't matter if he only has two playoff buzzer heaters. Many stars have 0 true playoff buzzer heaters anyway, so 2 isn't even bad in comparison.

tiny sample sizes, and clutch shots are more difficult to hit

When you raise the sample size to 10 seconds, LeBron still takes it. When you raise it to 24 seconds, LeBron still takes it. When you raise it to 60... well, you get the point.

Yeah, that shot also to force OT.

That was a difficult shot, right over Vlade. He also hit a 3 against the Knicks in 96' to tie the 3rd game, but NY won in OT.

Ones that he missed, off the top of my head (some buzzer beaters, some with a few seconds left).

1986 Game 2 against Boston (63 pt game. He also hit 2 FTs with no time left to force OT)
1991 Game 1 against LA
1992 Game 2 against Portland
1997 Game 3 against Washington- lost the ball, but Scottie picked it up and drove and dunked
1997 Game 4 against Utah (Rimmed out, would have tied the game)
1998 Game 4 against Indiana (Rimmed out. He also fell down in game 6 and didn't get a shot off)
1998 Game 5 against Utah

Game winning/tying shots in these situations are pretty low percentage.

Yeah the arc on it was insane. Then he went out and scored 8 straight points in overtime including a reverse layup so beautiful Marv Albert was nearly laughing. Great finish to the gamr by MJ after Pippen fouled out.

Its been 16 years so I think your memory is a little off but he did get his shot off against Indiana in game 6.That was after the Miller push and 3 with 0.6 seconds left. Mj shot a bank 27 footer which rimmed twice before going out.
The Washington one, im not sure counted as a shot technically since he was stripped, am I right?

Mr Feeny
02-13-2014, 04:48 PM
Oooh I stand corrected. The finish with the Miller 3 and Mj buzzer miss was game 4 not 6. Ridiculous finish to that game too with Scottie bricking two fts with 5 seconds left that wouldhave iced the game.

Game 4 was the Miller push and his shot rimming out, game 6 was when he fell down.

I have the 1997-98 Bulls championship video and the Indiana announcer's call of game 4 is hilarious. He yells "it rimmed out" at the top of his lungs like 4 times.
