Euroleague

At a press conference in Athens, the Euroleague CEO said that the NBA will get to have its NBA European Division if it wants it.

It can be formed by the 6 biggest clubs from the Euroleague. The Euroleague and NBA can merge together on this to form an NBA Euroleague Division. This was implied to be the plan that Stern was envisioning, and that the Euroleague is still on board with it, and that they believe Silver is also.

The 6 biggest Euroleague clubs that would make up the NBA Euroleague Division would have to have tickets that cost €100 euros on average, and there would have to be 150 sellouts during each season.

The TV revenues generated from the advertising partners need to be 10 times higher than what the Euroleague is currently getting.

And they have to figure out how to set the tax laws under a salary cap, because of all the different tax laws in European countries.

The arenas are all in place (with some of them simply needing some upgrading), as are all of the markets and teams that they have set.

So those are the parameters, they just need to get it worked out, and get the TV partners and the investors, and then it can happen, if the NBA wants it.

No mention of which European basketball clubs they will be, but it should probably be pretty easy to figure out which ones they are.

Shouldn't the best of the Euroleague teams come here, since the NBA is superior? It would be unfair to send a top 25 NBA team to Europe.

Congrats to Vilpenspingerton Spableblavious on finally getting a chance to go pro!

Hopefully he'll leave Olympiacos for one of the top 6 EL teams so that he can make it.

My sauces are telling me the Euro division will feature Olympiacos, three D-League teams, the Harlem Globetrotters and a weekly changing squad of fans selected via social media voting. Awesome.

The word on the streets is that the official theme for NBA Europe will be exclusively composed by Vassilis Spanoulis, performed with his legendary group "Kill Bill and the Minor Leaguers".

maybe one day, the nba has said it's still not feasible to have teams over there at this point.

It makes sense though that when it does happen they used existing clubs rather than try to start up new teams which will just cause more competition.

The only bit that doesn't make sense is that the NBA has singled out countries that I didn't think currently had euroleague teams like england.

the plan of jordi bartomeu is to oppose FIBA as long as he can. NBA has been doing that for over 25 years. The final plan is to eliminate all FIBA competitions except Olyimpic games.

Mr. Bertomeu was asked about the future of the Euroleague schedule with respect to the new FIBA calendar, which will place national team games during the season. “It’s not our problem. We can’t just stop our season. We are cooperating with them, but they already refused three proposals from our side. If they want, they can have qualification games without NBA and Euroleague players.”

Look at this attitude. It is clear that this clown's mission is to degrade all national teams competitions. Profit is all he wants.

Why is it not feasible? What are you talking about? The Euroleague ALREADY exists. They are simply taking the Euroleague that ALREADY exists and merging with it into a new NBA division in Europe.

How the hell is that not feasible?

Are you saying the Euroleague's existence itself is not feasible? That league has existed for 55 years.

As for the teams involved, Euroleague has already for example just begun the creation of a new team in Paris. They just made a new Paris Euroleague team.

They gave a 5 year contract to one of the biggest football clubs in Europe, PSG, to let them have a place in Euroleague, and got them a big TV contract also to go with it.

And they just finished a big remodel of their big basketball arena in Paris as well. So right off the bat, there you have the creation of a huge Paris club right there that people in USA think does not exist but it does. And it's one of the richest sports clubs in Europe.

As for the club in London, there has a been a lot of rumors about Euroleague giving a contract to Arsenal and them starting up a basketball club as well. And that they have been interested in putting a basketball club in the O2 arena, and bringing a NBA franchise there. Of course Arsenal is a huge club and has all the money to do it as well.

So again, people just say there is no club in London or Paris, but in reality, there are arenas and huge clubs there, and they have been rumored for a long time to have already been talking with Euroleague and NBA about this.

Now those rumors about PSG seem to be proved true, because we get reports that Euroleague gave them a 5 year contract and got them a TV deal and they actually created a new club that will debut next year.

So just think that a club that did not exist as of right now from Paris, would already be playing in Euroleague next season.

Your a nut job mate seriously.

I mean that the NBA has looked into this numerous times over the last few years and said it is currently not feasible to have NBA teams travelling to europe mid season. They have said they plan to do it within the next 10 years though but they keep saying transport/infrastructure/scheduling/contracts whatever arent' feasible for them yet. In no way did I say anything relating to the euroleague being bad. I'm well aware myself that europe wouldn't take much to get going and in a lot of cases they already have stadiums that are superior to a lot of the NBA stadiums, alot of the cities already have large fan bases too I'm just stating what the NBA have been saying for the last few years. It will happen eventually though.

questions:

1. teams from nba can go once a year on a road trip to europe, but what would the european teams do? go on a 1 month road trip? play each other from europe more than 4 times?

2. teams from greece, turkey, spain and russia will be there. maybe new teams from london, paris? what about asia? a trip to tokyo is way shorter than a trip to turkey, greece.

3. what kind of playoff sistem would there be? where would the division be? a new kind of conference or what?
