fairly average stuff from that era, from what i've seen and read. funny that the same studio that was beginning woody woodpecker made this around the same time.
you can even hear mel blanc in there doing the voice of the big washerwoman. he went on to do a million other characters, like bugs bunny and most of the warner bros characters, as well as barney rubble from the flintstones.

I don't understand why it's a black stereotype that they like fried chicken and watermelon? Who the **** doesn't?
:biggums:
I really don't know and your right, I for example was raised on fried chicken and watermelon during summer picnics at my grandparents, and nobody I know didn't love watermelon on a hot day, I never thought of those things as black stereotypes until I was told they were. But then again we aren't the generations that started such stereotypes.

I have never gotten what was wrong with liking fried chicken and watermelon.
The only negative I can think of is that fried chicken is unhealthy and that is a legit reason to dislike it, but it is also delicious.
With most/all other negative stereotypes of demographic groups, I can see why that would be offensive to be associated with that particular stereotype, but what is wrong with loving delicious food?
Personally I think negatively of anyone that doesnt like the taste of fried chicken and watermelon.
Also think negatively of people that dislike mayo. Especially the really good home made kind. mayo combined with other spices into aiolis can be incredibly good.
And yeah america before the 1980s was incredibly racist. Black people really didnt have a chance then.

Yup. The racism/sexism/xenophobia back then was out in the open in media, cartoons were no exception. Walt Disney was a well known anti-semite and overall bigot. Check out Daffy Duck as a Nazi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHL-sPV01q4)

okay, i'll play:
watermelon-- i love it (and a pair of cantaloupes) even in the winter. summer makes it taste better, but still. it's great dessert food for any season.
fried chicken-- hell no. 1) it's fried, 2) it's often breaded but either way still has the skin, 3) once you've seen how miserable those animals' lives are, it's hard to have much appetite.
so in conclusion:

With that logic you would need to either be a vegetarian/vegan or only eat free range stuff.
but lets be honest you love the taste of fried chicken, just like everyone else.

@mavs super fan,
no, but i'm pretty dedicated to eating well because it directly helps some physical conditions i have. so i eat mainly whole foods. fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, yogurt and a little quality protein. avoid processed foods whenever possible.
processed foods are poison, anyway.
and no again, i've never liked fried chicken since being a kid. too greasy, messy... dissecting the skin, veins, bones, ligaments, etc.... like doing a lab experiment with your mouth.
f--k that. i'd rather just have some seasoned skinned cutlets BBQ'd or baked. tandoor chicken, skewers, etc.

Did you actually watch the video you posted this time? Because last time you gave a video you claimed the Donald duck cartoon was anti-semetic propaganda when in actuality it was AMERICAN PROPAGANDA. The video consisted of Donald Duck having a nightmare of living in national socialist occupation and then at the end he wakes up in America saying "feels great to be a citizen of the united states of america". The cartoon was made in 1943 directed towards Americans to support WW2 and view national socialists in a lesser light.
The video this time is called "Walt Disney, Racism revealed" so it mostly likely has to with blacks and nothing to do with anti-semetism(your original claim). So now your changing your stance because you have no real evidence. Lol

Boy your jimmies are ruffled. Why are you so mad? Did I say something about Bron in another thread that hurt your feelings? :biggums:
And why do you assume the video was me trying to show Walt Disney's 'anti-semetic propaganda'? Is that what I was trying to show with the Superman cartoon as well? Did you disregard me saying "Yup. The racism/sexism/xenophobia back then was out in the open in media, cartoons were no exception."? I didn't even know that was a Disney cartoon, hell didn't even know which particular cartoon duck it was :lol
Still doesn't change the fact that Walt Disney was a known anti-semite, which brings us to...

Not really... I dont see how its a negative.
Most/all stereotypes are obviously offensive.
Eg. the stereotype of the black person being violent, white men being serial killers, white people not being able to dance, asians being nerdy, jews being greedy, mexicans being illegal, native americans being drunks, etc.
All of these are obviously offensive because they imply a negative about a demographic group.

then what you're really after is HOW it became an offensive stereotype, and i don't have the answer for that.
however, there's obviously loads of material on the net, starting with WP. also, this NPR piece proposes that the old KKK-propaganda film "birth of a nation" really solidified the idea.

as far as I know, it became a racist stereotype because slaves only had access to certain kinds of food.. they had to make food out of the scraps that was leftover
Chicken
Pigs feet
Ham hocks
Chitterlings
whites mocked black folks for eating certain types of food and it was depicted (with cartoons, and black face) that black folks could always be found eating chicken
it is more about the propaganda itself than the idea that something is wrong with chicken

thx... yea, that sounds exactly in line with WP's explanation under "fried chicken racism history."
collards
black-eyed peas
okra
corn bread
like every group of people across history, they used what was available to them, no?
and i'm sure out-of-towners could blow through philly, see a level of thuggish behavior or whatnot, and then disdainfully call philadelphians a bunch of scrapple-eaters.
