Game 7.... NBA Finals.

The Pacers have packed the paint with their bigs with George defending the player with the ball in his hands 1-on-1. Your team down by 3, no timeouts left, who do you take to shoot the 3 to tie?

Stephen Curry
Kevin Durant
Joe Johnson
LeBron James
Damian Lillard

KD. Curry is arguably the best shooter on that list, but Durant has an advantage that can not be taught: height. He can shoot it over George.

PG defending?

Gotta go with somebody who is clutch and long enough to make it over long defender.

So LeBron

KD would be a nice choice if he wasn't such a choker

Probably curry. By far the best shooter.

Durant is an all time great shooter, but he's a playoff choker.

LeBron would be #2 after Curry. He has big time finals experience and is literally the greatest game 7 performer of all time.

I'd put Deuxrant #3, Johnson #4 and Lillard last.

You can count on KD to hit a game winner in a game 1 or a game 2. With the series on the line though, that dude is always invisible.

What's the sample size?

The memphis series was bad, but the situation in OKC completely changed within a week. You role with a roster the whole season and then you get to day of training camp during the playoffs figuring stuff out. Granted Miami had to do the same in '12 vs Indiana and pulled through, but although I think Spoelstra is quite mediocre in coaching overall he's one of the quickest "adjusters" I've seen - ever.

btw aside from Dirk everyone would be decoys, plan Bs. I think Dirk is a basketball troll. He'd hit the shot just to annoy the opposition.

btw #2

No packed zone Lebron has to be on the line up. He's awesome seeing holes in Ds, but I would trust his jumper.

You also have to count in the possibility of the player getting fouled and having to go the free throw line

That knocks Kevin "40% in the clutch from the line in the playoffs" Durcan't even lower

All 5 can be trusted to take that shot, and have a better shot at making it than most.

The small players on this list aren't necessarily at a disadvantage because Curry and Lillard get their shot off extremely quickly, so length doesn't bother them that much. LeBron is the worst three point shooter in the lot, but he's also quite clutch, and can perhaps find an open Ray Allen even in those circumstances so he's less predictable.

That said if I absolutely have to choose... hesitating between KD and Curry but I'll go with Steph, for two reasons 1) he has the highest 3 point percentage of the group (not that much higher than Durant's but you have to take into account the fact that he shoots a much higher volume) 2) I assume he's playing for the Warriors, so there'll be more spacing than with Durant's Thunder.

Give me the best ft shooter because no way does the defensive team allow a shot attempt in the above scenario.
What if you foul the guy on a shot attempt? (Or worse, get a 3+1) Someone like Curry is so quick, you don't want to take the risk.
Up 3 with one possession left, I think you should defend and actually make the extra effort not to foul. The worst case scenario here is overtime.

In the other strategy... Many bad things can happen. Say:
- one of your players accidentally does a flagrant
- one of your players fails at fouling and actually leaves his guy open for a shot
- you foul in the act of shooting, they get 3 three throws.
- 3+1.
- you foul, they score 2. Then either a) you fumble the inbounds pass, they steal it and make the game winning three b) they foul back, you miss one free throw and they make the hallelujah from the other side of the court.
- you foul, they make 1, miss the second, and get a rebound tip in... or worse, an offensive rebounder tips it to Ray-Allen-in-the-corner...
etc.

None of this is likely, but it's possible and you don't want to take any chances.
