Adam Silver says sponsorship on jerseys will ultimately happen. "It makes good business sense."

Quite frankly, YES.

Pro sports already feel commercialized and lifeless.

I get tired of billboards and commercials every time I turn on the TV already. Plus you get advertisements all over the internet. I guess there can be no escape from it now.

UGH. And I was so happy that Stern was finally gone... This is one of the worst things that can happen to American Pro Sports. It's bad enough we have to sit through a billion horrible commercials, advertisements all over the stadiums/arena's, telecasts always popping up advert prompts, etc. etc.

They make enough damn money on this League already, stop doing shit the fans hate, we're the ones handing you all that cash you greedy d-bags. Awful.

One thing I have to say is that the breaks and commercials is already unbearable, tonight in the all star event there were commercials every 5-10 minutes. Is it like that with regular TV-Shows also in USA?

I grew up with football so I am used to the ads on soccer jersey but that is one of the few things in which big football teams whore them self out on. I would not mind if this meant that the commercials were cut in half, I would take that but there is no chance of that happenening. Instead NBA will have their arena name whored out, their jersey whored out and commercials every 5 minutes. I am just happy I rarely watch games live.

How are you guaranteed the money? By the tax penalty the teams in the luxuary pay?

Actual commercials definitely have a subconscious effect on me sometimes but a clusterf*ck of random logos on a jersey isn't going to make me go out and buy something.

Hopefully Jersey sales go to shit once they make the change. I'm not buying a Jersey with fukcing McDonalds or Taco Bell plastered all over it, I guarantee that.
They will no doubt have the option for either or...

They wont sell the jersey with the ads to the public.

They will sell the normal jerseys to the public and wear the ones with the ads for the games

Make the jerseys look like shit. Make sure you buy your fave players jersey now

This.

NBA jerseys are sick, lets not ruin them. Also what will happen with throwbacks?

I wonder if they will incorporate the major sponsor in the team name, for example the McDonalds Rockets or something,

I don't like this :facepalm

thats exactly why I dont want this happening

once you let sponsors on the jersey it opens the door wide open for some cheap ass owner to just rename the team after the sponsor like New York Red Bull in MLS.

**** that noise.

its a very short sighted business decision too IMO.

sure you might be able to make some quick cash by slapping AT&T on your jersey but that actually DEVALUES the worth of your own brand.

its not like they will be reinvesting this money back into the teams either since the NBA has such a punitive salary cap.

Man, they bet' NOT fvck with the throwbacks.

MJ ain't never wore no jersey with ads on them, and that's something, considering all the shit he used to advertise.

Same with Magic, Bird, Barkley, etc. I would HOPE the NBA isn't stupid enough to **** with throwbacks.

There is already way too much advertisements in the NBA. Just look at the All-Star game tonight. The score table is a billboard that changes between at least 5 companies like Sprint, Auto Trader etc. The basket padding had 3-4 logos on it and 2 more on the goal post behind the backboard. Samsung Galaxy was painted onto the sideline. Every screen in the arena flashes ads on it. TNT is constantly talking about the sponsors. There is way too many commercials.

I'm pretty sure even the little foot pads the players wipe their feet on in front of the scorers table have ads on them. Shit is ridiculous already. The entire arena is already one big advertisement from wall to wall. Leave the freaking jersey's alone.

every little shit that is about to start gets announced with a sponsor.

i just watched all of the allstar weekend with a friend that never watches it or know anything about the nba and he was always just ranting about it and left my house beacause he couldn't take it nomore. :hammerhead:

I'd much rather see ads on the ball than on the jerseys. We preach all the time that the name on the front of the jersey is more important than the one on the back...so is that the Laker name or the Goodyear tire name?

I didn't notice any of that stuff. I know it was there, but it only bothers you if you're looking to be bothered by it. Hearing the name of a company really drives you crazy? F*cking really? Let it go in one ear and out the other like I do.

The game itself having the least defense played in history is the only thing that bothered me. Disgrace of a game. A flashing billboard advertising different companies drives you crazy? F*cking really? Wow.

thats beacause you got used to it. like most nba fans.
try to show it to someone that lives somewhere outside of the us and they will rip their eyes out after the 3rd commercial in 20 minutes.
you have no idea how big of a deal that is in some other countrys.
in germany before they lost their tv rights (don't know exactly when) but in 1999 when i started watching they would show the game on "free tv" summarized in 1 hour. only the important parts with only like 2 short commercials.
thats how i became a fan. then later in 2000 i watched my first live game via stream and i was literally screaming (not only at the quality) at the screen everytime they switched to a commercial break.

just the fact alone that you had players standing there waiting for the commercial to stop was mind boggling to me at that time.
i found that disrespectfull to the sport and the players lol.

No way should the sponsor be front and center like that. Just stick a logo on the corner or something.

Yeah, I understand not loving the long commercials, but that's still not a big deal to me. Play around on your laptop during commercials, or find another show to watch during commercials, or take a bathroom break. Commercials are not the end of the world.

The other guy was making it sound like hearing a companies name or seeing a billboard was like having his mind raped though lol.

That's because you're used to it and probably grew up with it.

It doesn't have to be the end of the world without being annoying as hell, commercial are mind numbing and they work. It's no joke that companies who already sit on huge market shares shell out as much money as they do on this.
Mind rape isn't a bad analogy.

Watching a game where you switch tabs and play around on your labtop, perhaps read some stuff on here or elsewhere makes for a very unsetteling experience watching the game. No flow at all.
Quarter breaks, half time and a regular number of timeouts offer plenty of time for bathroom breaks and those things.

No it doesn't bother me, I was simply making a point that there is much more than enough advertising already. Having it on the jersey's WOULD bother me, especially considering that the entire arena and TV telecast is already one big advertisement as is, they don't need to mess with the jersey's.
