I cannot think of doing a top four without Barkley. I guess he flamed out hard here, but he was such a presence.
My top 2 for sure in in terms of straight up Philadelphia would be Doc and AI. Wilt would be 3 due to his place in NBA history and the records. I liked Moses' body of work here but his longevity in Philadelphia was too short. I'd put Barkley slightly ahead of him

Yes, that's something I've considered, which is why it's a close debate for me. I'm more thinking of what the player meant to the city. AI will be remembered as being a top 4 greatest Sixer ever despite not bringing home a title. It's more his place as an athlete in the city.

Yeah, my wife's firm had seasons so I'd put a request for the games I wanted to see. I'd have about 4 games a year. she left that firm though:mad: They had Flyer tickets as well.
It was around 99 when she first started so they weren't as good. Matt Geiger was the starting center then I believe. At least that's the first guy I remember. That season was a great season in 00-01. We started out hot the gates. Ratliff was a beast in the middle. but stealing Mt.Mutombo was just icing. It's just too bad we were caught in the Laker dynasty era.

Cool. I remember watching the 2001 playoffs as a 14 year old while lying in hospital. The games aired in the middle of the night in Europe with crappy telephone sex ads during breaks. Turns out nurses don't appreciate that at 3 a.m...

Those tight Eastern series were awesome that year...

It does matter. When you talk Sixers basketball and the history? Moses Malone isnt mentioned first, second, third or even fourth.

In retrospect, I would put Moses over AI at the 4 position. AI led the Sixers to a Conference Championship, but that's it. Moses was dominant, and was the final piece to a very good Sixer team that became a great team in 1982-83.

AI is arguably the second greatest SIXER of all-time. Take into consideration what cultural and basketball impact he had to this city. He's not just one of the greatest SIXER, he's one of the greatest athletes. You cannot have a top 4 without him.

Not a Sixers fan, but that 82-83 Sixers team was among the all-time great teams. They totally dominated the league that season, and the Lakers had no answer for them in the Finals once Moses joined the team. He was the missing piece to that puzzle.

The Sixers are kind of a tough team to figure out a Mt. Rushmore for because their best players weren't lifers, and most had significant careers (and success) elsewhere as well as with the Sixers.

I have no dog in the fight, but would include:

Wilt Chamberlain
Dr. J
Moses Malone
Alan Iverson
