For a guy who had better rebounding teammates and who had to expend much more energy scoring and pounding defenses I'd say Shaq was not a worse rebounder, in particular on the offensive end. Dwight is a much better help and pick-and-roll defender (because he's more mobile), man to man it's a wash, and Shaq was more imposing clogging the paint.

Legit knock on Shaq defensively was his pick-and-roll defense, and his occasional coasting on D,, though at times he had to give up something defensively to stay out of foul trouble given how he was so invaluable offensively, and because he picked up more offensive fouls pounding opponents down low.
