Many people don't know that I was a chef for 4 years and I have experience preparing dishes from scratch. My skills are on the stove and oven.
Well, today, I decided to get Hamburger Helper and see what all the fuss was all about, mainly from friends.
It is the nastiest thing ever and for me to waste good meat and vegetables on that stupid meal in a box made me angry.:facepalm
One bowl of that crap and I threw everything in the trash.

anything like that shit is garbage. Not sure why you would even try it. There are very few "shortcut" meal makers that are actually shortcuts or taste good.
What kind of restaurants did you work in?

Various restaurants over my time. You name it. Cooking is cooking. Very easy.
Fresh ingredients is key and when you have good ingredients, it is really not hard to cook.
Only thing I don't know how to make are desserts but I have never been a dessert guy.

did it give you bad ooey gooey sh*ts?
No. I ate one bowl and threw out the rest. It is high in sodium. I pretty much took a drink of water after every bite to wash it down.
I personally didn't expect much with anything out of a box but recently my friends are talking about how great and easy it was and I saw it while going up and down the aisle. I wanted to experiment.
Perhaps it is good for some people but I normally cook my own stuff so maybe my tastebud was in shock.

I suggest people make "Hamburger Helper" from scratch. Go down to the spice aisle and pick up your spices of choice or make your own with dried herbs. Mix whatever spices you like and throw it in a grinder to get it in powder form.
Buy flour for thickening. Buy shredded cheese.
Cook your ground beef of choice and throw in those spices with your noodles or pasta of choice. As you are stirring and cooking it slowly add the flour to thicken up the sauce to your preference.
Cook everything separately and mixing everything together after they are cooked.
After this, sprinkle the cheese on top of the noodles or pasta and let it melt.
Thank me later.

in here, most of the food prepared is still grown from the soil or slaughtered live.

when you buy in the wet market, you can actually still see the soil from the fresh produce and see the blood dripping in the meat and fish section.

You can make a better dish from scratch in about the same amount of time. As OP points out (and probably the only post of his Ive ever agreed with), cooking is easy. Its about good ingredients, timing and measurement.

While OP is a douchey troll, its not hard to have been a "chef" and also a college student, etc. I worked as a line cook in a number of restaurants (ranging from high end traditional french cuisine to tex-mex) when I was a student. And many of my chefs (esp the sous chef's or the line chefs) were not much older than me and many times didnt have the same "on the line" skills as someone like me.

Pretty obvious you're no cook and never been a chef. You simply don't thicken with flour. If you don't want any taste you take corn starch, for tasteful sauces use cream, creme freche, sour creme, butter, chopped onions, mustard, whatever, but no flour.
Flour leaves a distinctive bitter taste you just don't want in your sauce. Housewives use this method.

There are some times you should use flour in a sauce, but this involves making a roux, which is nothing like what OP described.

As said. A friend is a cook, and in contrast to the OP I used to cook for myself a lot. Pretty much got fed of it and ran out of ideas after a while. Gonna check out your thread maybe it motivates me.

True, but I really don't like it and it's not a must do thing. In almost any case you can still use one of the alternatives.

Not a cream guy. While that is the preferred method for most people, I don't do it for nutritional reasons.
Just like how French cuisine uses a lot of butter, I tend not to go that route. I tend to ignore this train of thought. It is not good for your health.
If you properly read my post in context, you will know that I recommend the use of flour for homemade "Hamburger Helper" sauce.

I went out with a girl who was a chef in a michelin star restaurant when she was 21.
Anyway I had no clue what hamburger helper was, I'd previously heard it on cops and my name is earl I think. I always thought it was for making hamburgers.
Does it actually come with meat and stuff pre made or what? If it's horrible and for convenience why don't people just eat microwave dinners if the convenience is the main part? I also thought the expensive part of a meal was the meat, so if you provide your own meat how is this much cheaper?
It's not really hard to cook, just follow recipes and don't leave shit unattended. Boring as hell for me but not hard.
