I don't really know. Jordan is my favourite player ever, but there is this huge mythology around him that it is hard to look at him in an objective way anymore.

While I think Kareem has a great case for GOAT basketball player (not necessarily NBA player), this accomplishments list is a little disingenuous. Why do you list NCAA tournament awards but don't list Finals MVPs? Why would you list all defense selections (without mentioning specific teams ie 1st team) but not mention DPOYs won? No scoring titles? Seems a bit biased, no?

And for the record- if you polled the general public who they think the GOAT boxer is chances are the vast majority of them would pick a Muslim guy named Muhammad. Go figure :lol

What was Kareem's peak years?

I always get drilled for saying this, but IMO, from the second half of his rookie season (remember, he was 22), thru his 71-72 season. Even into his 73-74 season he was still a dominating force.

He was at his scoring peak, and in that 70-71 season, his FG% against league average (.577 vs. .449) was the highest of his career. His 16.0 rpg mark in that 70-71 season came in "only" 40.3 mpg, and in a league filled with great rebounders. In his 71-72 season, he averaged 34.8 ppg, 16.6 rpg, and 4.6 apg. And he was hanging 40+ point games on nearly every center in the league.

But even more than those numbers...his TEAM's W-L records were the best of his entire career, including his 80's Lakers. And finally, take a look at Milwaukee's DEFENSE from '71 thru '74. They led the league in FG% against every season (some by huge margins), and were generally in the top-3 in ppg allowed...all while being among the best offensive teams in the league.

Jordan was the best player on 6 championships. He has one less season MVP but holds the edge in finals MVPs at 6:2, that's 3x as many. He has one DPOY to 0 for Kareem. He has 10 scoring titles to Kareem's 2, that's 5X as many.

Jordan is not less accomplished than Kareem (as an NBA player, if we're talking HS and college, then yes Kareem has the very clear edge).

There is no wrong answer for this question. There are few perimeter player in the entire history that could make an impact like an all-time great defensive big. And Jordan is one of them.

I prefer KAJ on my team, tho.
