View Full Version : Durant should emulate Kobe instead of LeBron

So we all know LeBron is Durant's hero. He idolized the King coming into the league, and has admitted to looking up to him.

I really don't see how shooting more and not playing defense would make him a better player..?

Mure
02-23-2014, 09:51 PM
Why would he emulate the worse of the two players?

Whatever he is doing he is doing it right because he improves every year. Working on his weaknesses doesnt mean he is trying to be like lebron

This thread would have made sense if you made it last season. Without Westbrook, Durant has played the role of a facilitator very well and has had the best stretch of his career.

Disagree

LeBron is a very good model for KD...This is one reason why he is dominant and efficient this year....LeBron is a great model for every young players

Were you in a coma for the past couple of months? Durant just went on a historic streak playing an all round role. :facepalm

It takes some kind of stupid to say that a player should not improve on his weaknesses.

Why would he imitate a lesser player?

Why would he imitate a lesser player?

In some cases, it makes sense. For example, a PG should try to imitate CP3 rather than Shaq.

But, in this case, Durant has displayed the ability to be an all rounded player. He is 6'11 and a very good ball handler of the ball, has insanely long arms so has the potential to be a great defender, and is very quick. Although he lacks Lebron's vision, he has shown flashes of great playmaking this season.

No reason for him not to improve on all of those aspects.

And Kobe doesn't get the credit he deserves for being a very good all round player. Just a lot of the time, he just chooses to shoot and shoot.

So OP is mad because Durant is doing what LeBron does, but with superior scoring to boot?

He doesn't do what Broncos does...he doesn't have that talent. He is not a playmaker on the level of Kobe, let last not even mention that skill in comparison to Bron. Durant just goes out there and hunts stat lines, something Kobe never did.

Will how this plays out. If everyone is healthy his team should be in the Finals. He has another top 5-10 player and a really good team around them. Lets go see how his mediocre court vision and lawmaking holds up...I see lots of turnovers and a disappearing act that gets blamed on Westbrook. Wouldnt surprise me if it happened in round 1.

I get what you guys are saying about emulating the better of two players, and I definitely think it would be better for most to emulate LeBron since he's superior to Kobe. It's my fault, I should have been more specific. When he tries too hard to be a facilitator, he turns it over a lot and can actually disrupt the rhythm of the role players - he doesn't have that instinct for how to properly distribute the ball and keep everyone clicking. Durant can't run an offense himself, he needs to be a potent scoring weapon playing alongside a true point guard. He would fulfill his role as a more basic kind of player like Kobe.

Durant was beasting playing like Lebron with Westbrook out. The idea that he should change his game is laughable.

its expected, this younger generation never knew kobe was a defensive beast, better than bran ever was (truly lock down defender, not because a good heat system)

heck they now think wade is a scrub that need to be carried by bran :facepalm

Lebron has never had 60 points dropped on him lets remember that before we proclaim kobe a better defender than lebron ever was.

So he should ride the best center of all time to 3 rings then collude with a prime Spanish beast with stacked team to win 2 more?

I think from the phrasing of the topic, the threadstarter answered his own question.

You didn't know? Working on your weakness didn't become a thing in the NBA until Lebron did it.

Which is funny, because there's quite a few things Lebron still needs to work on in his game, foremost being his post game and footwork.

Durant plays off the ball way too much. He should handle the rock a lot more and make Westbrook come off screens instead.

are you one of those that actually believe bran defense is on par with pippen based on athleticism alone ? :lol

bran is good help defender, and excel in cutting the passing lane, his years under defensive minded coach like mike brown help him a lot

but for on ball defender, MJ/Kobe/Wade >>> bran

you should watch some of the frobe footage

young kobe used to do full court press all game

Would you say 2000-2002 Kobe was a great defender or go as far as 2000-2004? Some say he declined a bit in 2002, others in 2003 or 2004..

2000-2002 was his athleticism peak, ferocious defender

2003 kobe was still great, but then injuries and colorado happened

2008-2010 kobe was a smarter defender, not relying on athleticism

2005-2007 lakers should be his peak defensively (athleticism + experience) but the lakers was so bad that he didnt put much effort on defensive end, so we never know

No. I've never seen a perimeter defender as good as Pippen. That doesn't mean LeBron isn't better than Kobe.

Actually agree with all points! Although I don't think 2010 was that good of a defender anymore..
